  1. I hope so. Apparently Bruce has a history coaching Hunt in junior hockey. And was enamoured with his shot from the point on the PP. Seems like every coach has one or two of these kinds of players that they overvalue because of a past coaching connection. Willie with Vey, Green with...Gaunce? Sometimes you have to almost pry that player from him when everyone else sees the problem except them. I hope its not the case with BB and Hunt. BB wants the D to play more offensive, north south, and maybe saw Hunt as filling that role better. But surely by now he's seen Kyle's value in the defensive zone, even in keeping the puck in the O zone. And his physicality is sorely missing from this team as well. I really think other teams would be interested in him. He's playing well above his cap hit. We need more value contracts like that if we want to compete in the next few years.
  2. What was it.....something like a 2% chance at the beginning of Dec? Bruce there it is!
  3. I hate when they miss early chances in a game. I usually ends up burning them. .......usually not always.
  4. I forgot. Garland is out as well as Bo. Its going to take everyone else to get a win
  5. I think it was also a business mistake in not swallowing some profit, and allowing the team to play Ottawa. If the big bad BC gobmint said it was fine to go ahead, @50%. Aquilini had to look at more than just the bottom line in the short term. The team could have used that tune up game, probably a win, with a full healthy roster of our starters, before heading out to Florida. Who know's, if the Tampa or Florida game we weren't coming in stone cold if the result would have been different, with a couple more bounces? The team's success on the ice is also good for business for the Aquilinis long term.
  6. The longer we get a rear view of JB the more damage done by him is clear. He left JR with a huge pile of poop as far as options going forward. At the very best, the team just treaded water the whole 8 years. Mostly languishing in the basement. So at least we've improved on our draft prospect pool right? Not so much. Rated at 28th the year before, after Gillis's last draft, we jumped to 21st in the league after Bennings first draft. And that jump was based on a (retroactively) bad projection that Virtanen would be a top six impact player. And also based on McCann being a good two way forward for them. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2108713-re-ranking-every-teams-prospect-pool-after-2014-nhl-draft New Talent: The Vancouver Canucks added two first-round selections and, as a result, moved smartly up the rankings. Jake Virtanen is a budding power forward, and Jared McCann is among the best two-way forwards in the 2014 draft. https://dobberhockey.com/2021/07/31/the-journey-2021-nhl-prospect-pool-rankings/ The latest ranking, from the last I could find from mid 2021, has us at 22nd. Down one spot. Still lacking even all our delegated picks. Still spent up to the cap. Including taking on an albatross contract, OEL, that will most likely cause issues in the future. Podkolzin, Hoglander are coming along fine. But we forget that the NHL is getting younger and better and faster on every team out there. It would be nice to have a few more of those coming up the pike. Its going to be a difficult row to hoe for JR. I'm just happy that Aqualini has finally hired a management and coaching staff who is capable of getting us out of it, and hopefully somehow protect the most competitive players in our core, and also build a prospect pool for the future.
  7. Burroughs. I have no idea why Boudreau still doesn't quite trust him. He was still the lowest minutes played of any of the D last game. @ 8:48. after the last game he played in Seattle was only just over 2 minutes. I see a hungry, bigger framed, physical defenseman who finishes checks, and will drop the gloves if needed. He's very efficient with the puck in his own end, and avoids the disease of many of the Canucks, in that he doesn't try to make just one more cute pass to a teammate in traffic, inside his own zone. He can also rush the puck, and has a decent ability to get the shot through. BB likes Hunt because he's coached him early on, and thinks he'd be great as a PP shooter on the second unit. But Hunt is smaller, and is not as good defensively. I thought Burroughs quick development was one bright spot in the tail end of Green's Canuck coaching tenure. And maybe is the only player who rues the day BB took over. I hope BB can see this young BC athlete's potential and use him more.
  8. People want Petey to have a "he's ba....ack!" game. Where he instantly becomes the alien again. If they don't see it instantly, its trade him. No in between. Fact is sometimes some players just take longer to get back into form after injury, layoff, missing camp etc... Maybe the first time he's ever taken that much time away from the game. His recovery is maddeningly slow, but patience guys...(and gals...and..theys). Its incremental. But its coming. He's still a young player. The longer he plays, the more he will not only get stronger, but also learn how to adjust his game now that teams have figured out the early Petey.
  9. Almost a blessing they got scored on. They were reverting to their two goal lead skate backwards shell game.
  10. Never seen a team who thinks they always need to make a few cute passes in their own zone before getting it out.
  11. All I need is for Petey to score a hat trick and my Sunday will be complete
  12. ha. Who else thought when he double clutched he had made another mistake and lost his chance?
  13. Kinda sucks for those players. Because of COVID, they also may miss their chance at ever being Olympians. I hate McJesus when he's playing for the Coilers, but I was sure looking forward to him dominating the Yanks and Ruskies.
  14. Outshooting + behind on the scoreboard, again. WTF is going on? Other teams are able to shut us down, recover the puck and exit their zone, after one weak shot.
  15. At least Petey was able to counter, defend, his giveaway that time. That's an improvement right there. Lately it would have turned into a breakaway the other way.
