  1. I don't get it. They finally looked like they learned that Green's stand around and watch the shot, rebound to opponent, stand and watch again, repeat.. was over. They were having a turnaround with a more aggressive \approach under BB. Now their back to their old "play not to lose" style.
  2. Garland started this shooting from a steep angle thing. Now it seems more players are doing this now on the Canucks.
  3. Or worse. We get a two fer. Such as another LE plus a Gagner/Gudbranson/Beagle .... Or if you could still get a first and second rounder and a prospect, and start the next rebuild, but in that case Hughes may be asking for a one way ticket to NJ. And Miller, maybe Boeser too, asking for a trade out. Whatever window we thought we had coming, will be delayed indefinitely. Be careful what you wish for.
  4. Yup. There is no way that Pettersson can't play any better. His rookie years both in Sweden and Vancouver proved he is a special player. And also, has a great attitude. Its bothering him almost too much. Its become a self perpetuation cycle of a loss of confidence, leading to poor performances, more lost confidence...etc... I think even he was surprised at how important the training camp was to him. How that snowballed. He reportedly came to Vancouver secretly before training camp, to put pressure on his agent and Benning to get a deal done. Its almost as if players, especially young ones coming off ELCs, bow to "wisdom" of their agents to handle negotiations. And if they dared to step in and say....that's enough!....I'll take it!.....not only would their agent be mad, but the NHLPA too. So they sit out and wait and hope and wait til its done. The blame for the holdout, and Petey missing TC, is on the agent and the GM for not getting a deal done sooner. Both of them underappreciated just how important it was going to be for their client/player to get here sooner. I think Petey just has to develop different ways to approach the game, with his body type. His wrist injury could still be a factor as well. One of his admirable traits was how he could handle the puck, play keep away. Now he's one of the worst at holding onto the puck. But like Nylander took a full season after injury and missing camp, so I think will Petey. My gawd, I can see it now. We trade Petey for a bag of pucks, (expensive ones though). And in a couple of years he's the talk of the league again....for all the right reasons this time. I firmly believe he'll get better. And trading him will turn into Cam Neely 2.0.
  5. So why did they play so great when Bruce first arrived? Not for just one or two games either. It wasn't just a Boudreau Bump. To me, it showed the potential. It showed they can play together without the restraints of Green's system. The stand around waiting for the opponent to move first system. That they can use that potential in employing a new system under Bruce. Now that Bruce has finally had a decent stretch of practice time, we are now losing games. So its not so easily explained either way. Although I believe that the team will improve, and has already, under BB. I understand your point, but yeah IMO, a previous coaches influence should definitely start to wane after a month. Not totally of course, but to celebrate their wins as "Bruce..there it is!" and when they finally lose as "its all Green's fault!" is kinda simplistic. Pretty depressing if you will think that its going to still be Green's team till the rest of the season. I'm not sure I'd want to watch any more games if Green is still the one virtually coaching still, and in players heads till the end. Would it still be Green's team if they actually made the playoffs? To me, most of the blame clearly is at the previous GM's skates, if we are talking about culture, and chemistry, now that we get to see how the team performs against the better clubs. With so much turnover every season, replacing one set of mediocre support with another. Over a month, and two long stretches of practice days, should definitely at least begin steer players decisions on the ice. How long do you think a professional NHL player takes to start to listen to his new coach then IYO? Will the mighty Green's powerful influence even be worn off enough by next October?
  6. So....how long is the time period when every loss on a team is the fault of the previous coach? Travis failing to get us into the playoffs in his first years were because of Willie's bad BO? You'd have a lot more credibility with that statement if not for the fact that the team had a 7-0 start. Logically, you'd think that's when the last coach's influence would still be smelling up the team, especially in reactive situations with a tendency to do what you've been conditioned to do for the last 5 years. A time period when a new coach would be mostly assessing the team and just starting to employ his own systems. Now that he has had time.....the team is on a losing skid. Of course its not that simple. But that's almost as hilarious as blaming the former.... former.... GM, for the cap situation, prospect situation, and roster we have on the ice 8 years later. Green had to go clearly. He was good as a coach for Petey and Boeser and Hughes in their first years. And had a relationship with some other Comet players. But lost his way as they matured. As well as in leading, and having the respect of, the other older vets in the room. The AHL may just suit him better. But if you combine that coach who was in way over his head, with mediocre over paid support players each season, as your foundation, its going to be a disaster. The team is full of the latest of Benning Specials. Topping up the cap with stalwarts like Dickenson, Chaison, Hunt, Poolman to name a few. Instead of having drafted, and developed your own by now. Average to below average veteran players who are what they are. Our best players still need to be better, but its a team effort. The support players should be like the glue that helps to at least hold the team together until the stars score. The stars can't do it by themselves. The new Jim will have his hands full trying to get the rotten smell of the old Jim off the team, with how he left it. A former GM has waaaaay more long term effect on the team, than the previous coach would. That should be more of a concern, Why the harping on Green still? He's gone. Its been a month and a half. Its now Bruce Almighty's show. Both TG and JB had to go, and the GM should have been gone first, at least 3 years ago. Not saying Green would or should still be here but it might have been a different story for Green if he'd had a competent GM to feed him his roster to work with.
  7. Simple all right. I guess at least its not overly complicated, but still, its a fricken all star game. Of all the places its held to come up with a jersey I expected Vegas to have a little more glitz and glamour. I always have to remind myself this isn't for me or my peers, its for the kids and for the sponsors. So in that regard, I think they could have done something to stand out a bit more, a bit more fun.
  8. If the old Petey just materialized one day magically, we could have a real shot at making the playoffs. Thats what I mean by taking us over the top. A team that can beat Tampa at home, on a given night, and take those 2 points. If we had the old Petey, with dependable Quinn and an improved Boeser, Miller, Garland, Hogs n Podz, its not out of the question. They were all starting to get a little swagger. I blame COVID.
  9. Petey is incrementally improving every game. Did a lot of good things out there, nice passes. But to be honest, this team is so close. All it needs is Magic Petey to come back. That would put us over the top. To when we could score our way out of trouble if we had to. With Garland here now, its a shame we can't take advantage of that extra offence with two scary lines. Maybe Petey will come back this season yet. fingers crossed.
  10. Or when we'd enter the 3rd period, one goal down, and just know we were probably still going to win the game. Especially when we were outshooting them. When it was a line with WCE, or Sedins-Burr, or even the Lotto line a few seasons ago
  11. I agree with Shorty. Their work effort looks way better 5 x 5 than on the PP. They seem so tentative on the PP.
  12. love to see Miller at the All Star game. The only one who will be beaking off his team mates, and breaking his stick if he misses on the shoot out challenge.
  13. Hate how we work like heck to recover the puck in our own zone....then just nonchalantly pass it back to them for another extended onslaught. Bruce was talking about this tendency in the pregame talk. So frustrating to watch
  14. One thing puzzling with Bruce is why he is sitting Burroughs. He's one of our best defensive defensemen. I know he has history with Hunt and thinks he's an untapped PP shooter I've heard him say, but if you are playing such an offensive style team, why not play your bigger, more defensive minded d?
  15. https://www.hockeyzoneplus.com/salaries/61742-henrik-sedin That's the kicker. The Sedins were only bumped from $1,250,000 ($1,730,119 today's value) to $3,575,000 ($4,793,504) after year 5 (one lockout year in there). And only bumped to $6,100,000 ($7,685,420) in their 10 year as a Canuck. Its like handing the Sedins their final contract amount after only three seasons, instead of after 10. Now the Sedins started out slow. And slowly improved. And Petey knocked our socks off from game 1. So there was waaaaaaaay more expectation to already be elite level this early. But still, that's a lot of money, and a lot of pressure going with it. He's young enough still that I'm not too worried about him. No matter how thin a frame he has, he will still bulk up as he ages. I know all about that. He can get stronger. I think its a mental thing that is also hampering the on ice playmaking like a viscous cycle. He was/is so worried about public perception. When he first came here, he was very very defensive to reporters about his defensive game on the ice. I remember being a little surprised that he thought local reporters were critical about his defensive abilities, as I hadn't heard any worries on that front. He presumed as an highly offensive minded player, the natural tendency for reporters would be to assume he'd give up some of his defensive work. In hindsight it reminded me of the Jordan doc were he invented criticism by reporters, other players, just to motivate himself. And what resulted was Petey seemed to work extra extra hard on his defensive game. He was one of our best defensive players on the ice......including our defensemen. So it must be extra extra difficult for him to be in this slump right after signing that big contract. He's overthinking, and frustrated. He will have to have a re-set this off season, have a carefully crafted work out regiment that will suit his body type. Learn different techniques to avoid contact. Learn that he can't play like Miller. And build muscle mass, even if it sets him back next season to start as well, as building muscle mass kind of hampered Brock too when he did that after his second season I believe. If Petey feels more sturdy on his feet, the rest will follow.
