  1. Predict the Score Contest is back!  Get your predictions in before puck drop.

  2. Here we go. Meaningful hockey is (almost) back. Predict the winner and the score - (3pts for both, 1pt for just the winner) Bonus question - Who scores the Game Winning Goal? (1pt) Predictions for this game must be submitted before the drop of the puck, 7:30 pm PDT on Sunday. There is still time (until Saturday) to get your predictions in for all the qualifier series: Good luck, and Go Go!
  3. This is awesome.  He should be able to do this every game if he wants.

A neat idea now and then, but taken to the extreme it could be problematic. Should all Russian players be allowed to have their name in the Russian alphabet? What about players with Indian or other southeast Asian regions? The names I think are primarily for the viewing audience and that audience primarily speaks and reads English.

I love and support it as a special occasion thing though.

@-AJ-  I say yes to all.  If we can figure out how to pronounce Byfuglien properly, we can do the same for all.

There was a time where there were no names on the back of jerseys and people still knew who their favourite players were.  Players should be able to have their proper name in their own language on their jersey.

  4. My predictions: Rangers vs Hurricanes - Rangers in 5 Panthers vs Islanders - Islanders in 5 Canadiens vs Penguins - Penguins in 4 Blue Jackets vs Maple Leafs - Jackets in 3 Blackhawks vs Oilers - Oilers in 3 Jets vs Flames - Jets in 5 Coyotes vs Predators - Preds in 4 Wild vs Canucks - Canucks in 4 Stanley Cup Champion - Philadelphia Flyers
  5. Hockey is back, and so is PTSC. What is the Predict the Score Contest? It's a little contest started by @Canuck_Fan_52 a few years back. For each Canuck game I will create a thread. In that thread you make your prediction of the outcome for that game. Often there are also bonus questions you can make additional predictions for. After each game points are awarded. These points are accumulated for the entire season. At the end of the season a champion is crowned. There are no prizes, just bragging rights. And it's fun. PTSC Return to Play Edition Due to the COVID interruption I feel the best approach is to start from fresh for the Qualifiers & Playoffs. Thus, @FijianCanuck is our regular season Champion! Many thanks to those that participated throughout the regular season. For the re-start, I'm going to keep it simple and consistent. As long as the Canucks are still in the tournament, I will post a thread for every game to predict the score and the game-winning-goal scorer. Available points will increase with each round of the playoffs. Before each round you will also have the opportunity to pick who will win each series and in how many games. I am not going to do the top-4 teams' round robin games. If the Canucks do not advance I will just have the single thread for that round, until the Stanley Cup Finals. For the Finals (regardless of which teams) you will have the opportunity to predict the outcome of each game again until the Cup is awarded. I will honour the Stanley Cup predictions that were made before the start of the regular season. Due to this shortened, playoff-only format, 5 points will be awarded if you picked the correct Stanley Cup Champion. You can also make a fresh prediction for who will be the Stanley Cup Champion worth another 5 points. So let's get started. Qualifier round. Predict who will win the series (best of 5) & in how many games. (3 points for each correct series, 1 bonus point for how many games) Rangers vs Hurricanes Panthers vs Islanders Canadiens vs Penguins Blue Jackets vs Maple Leafs Blackhawks vs Oilers Jets vs Flames Coyotes vs Predators Wild vs Canucks Stanley Cup Champion (5 points) Predictions must be made before the drop of the puck for the first game on August 1st (9:00 am PDT). As always, only one prediction per thread will be permitted. If you make multiple predictions, I will only consider the first one. No edits after puck drop. I will post separate threads for the Canucks vs Wild games. Good luck, and Go Go!
  6. Coming soon, the return of the Predict The Score Contest threads.  I plan on posting them when I go back to work on the 27th.  Stay tuned.

YEA!!!   Thank you for all the effort you put into that...just adds another fun dimension to the games.

  7. It would be acceptable if the question was "What's happening?".
  8. It's been four months since we lost our Max. We're starting to look around. I never imagined it would be this hard to find a small dog to adopt.
  9. I was about to post something similar. I just drove past Beacon Hill Park. Tents all over the place. The province bought a couple of hotels near Mayfair, the area is a huge mess now. I don't know what the solution is, but what they are doing right now is certainly not working.
  10. Maybe it's just me, but it still bugs me that they call them 'finalists'. There is no final vote. There is only one vote and these guys are the top three vote getters. The winner has already been determined. The way they announce it you would think that these guys are the three nominees that the voters get to choose from, but that's not how it works.
  11. Gary Larson has new stuff.

      So far, so good.

  12. I can already watch every Canuck game on my TV or online through my Sportsnet channel subscription with Telus. None are blacked out. No need to pay any more. Besides, every game is already spoken for between Sportsnet's deal with the NHL and NHL Live. There are no more games left to put on PPV or some other platform.
  13. Really? Thanks for the tip. I'll be switching Snoop off immediately. As cool as regional broadcasters would be, I can't imagine the sheer volume of recordings that would be. If they keep Ferraro and Cybulski for a few years (like I think they will) I am hoping their repertoire will expand as they add more phrases for more situations.
  14. I don't mind Ray's commentary, although it gets a tad repetitive. My two beefs: 1 - All the misses by Cybulski. For example, the opposing goalie makes a huge save and he calls "He OWNS the crease tonight!", except I am up by 6 goals. How is that owning the crease? 2 - Snoop Dogg. It was fun the first couple of times, but he shows up every four games. That's more repetitive than hearing about Ray's 2 career empty net goals or how hard it is to get the third goal of the hat-trick.
  15. I wouldn't count on it. Besides, I am pretty sure you can't buy out a retired player. Luongo isn't being paid so he can't be bought out. We are just stuck with the re-capture penalty.
  16. I like Cedar Hill. At least I can break 100 there. :D
  17. In theory, at this point nothing changes. About a year from now they will have an expansion draft and a year or two later they will finally announce the team name.
  18. Just watching Game 3 of Toronto vs Vancouver from '94.  I haven't seen the game since I originally watched it live.  I had totally forgotten about the line brawl.

  19. Thought this thread might be about Blockbuster video. So in response, here's an article on the last Blockbuster: https://globalnews.ca/news/5067378/last-blockbuster-video-store-thriving/
  20. Or, more likely, they just crank up the escrow to account for the lost revenue.
  21. It is. She works her ass off. And I won't deny that it is a bit of a gongshow but considering how quickly they have had to adapt I say they have done an amazing job. All this spring has been is a dry run for next year. That is when we will hopefully see the benefits of what the out-to-lunch columnists are referring to as wasted time. I teach remotely for a living. But I have been doing it for over ten years. It's not something you can just pick up overnight or by watching a couple of webinars. And I get to teach adults. Way easier than what they are going through.
  22. I don't get my reality about BC public schools from Twitter. I get it from my wife, who is a teacher in the BC public school system.
