  1. I hear ya. No kids myself, but I take my nieces and nephew to the Teddy Bear toss game every year. I need a long-term savings plan to be able to afford the game.
  2. I hear ya. I'm not a beer drinker, but $5 for a bottle of Pepsi is insane. But I am so surprised at the Hope firing. If anything, he is one guy that was not afraid to make a trade.
  3. Holy crap. Cam Hope is out as GM. I did not see that coming. https://victoriaroyals.com/article/royals-announce-leadership-change?fbclid=IwAR3D3PW2UjGmz8vwSvjX3XgDastrl0mGxPLzCA6dwF_PuLaQxBxhVRJlLyA
  4. That little stat blew me away. When I saw it, I thought you were making it up. I was a fan of "The House" when he was here but he just never quite lived up to expectations. I would have never dreamed he was that high on the list. Wow.
  5. I can select every player in the list. Is that by design?
  6. For a while the Canucks had the Dutch Gretzky. Look where that got us.
  7. I am, yet again, campaigning for Cloutier, one of my favourite all-time Canucks. My evidence: Set Canuck record for shutouts (later passed by Luongo) NHL player of the month (4th Canuck in history to do so) First Canuck goalie to have three consecutive 30 win seasons Still sits 4th in Canuck career wins, 3rd in shutouts, 3rd in GAA Although I can't confirm it, I believe he also leads all Canuck goalies in fighting majors. If not for this thread, please consider nominating Cloutier in a future thread.
  8. The rules say I can use whatever criteria I want.
  9. I missed a couple of threads but I am back to nominate Cloutier again. He is still one of my favourite goalies that ever played for the Canucks.
  10. I'm really worried about junior hockey. The NHL can afford to play in front of empty arenas but the CHL can't. Hopefully there are enough owners with deep enough pockets, and enough sponsors to keep the teams & league afloat until we come out the other side of this.
  11. I have a strong goalie bias. If I don't start campaigning for him now, he's not going to make the list at all. To this day, Cloutier is still one of my all-time favourite Canucks.
  12. I'm still thinking about who to vote for, but I would like to nominate Dan Cloutier. I know many people hate him for his playoff results, but for a time he was one of the best goalies to have played here. My evidence: Set Canuck record for shutouts (later passed by Luongo) NHL player of the month (4th Canuck in history to do so) First Canuck goalie to have three consecutive 30 win seasons Still sits 4th in Canuck career wins, 3rd in shutouts, 3rd in GAA I believe he also leads all Canuck goalies in fighting majors.
  13. Or worse. Imagine if we won. No other team's hockey fans would ever admit it was a legitimate Cup win.
  14. Maybe Canucks vs Sharks, March 17, 2018. As games go, it was nothing special. Just another regular season game. But it was a game my wife and I actually got to see in person. Since moving home to Vancouver Island it has been really hard / expensive to go to games.
  15. Except you went well beyond bubble teams. The Red Wings had been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. And Montreal, Buffalo, New Jersey, Ottawa and all of California were virtually a lock for missing the playoffs. At most I would only include an extra two teams in each conference. The only team that could cry 'unfair' would be Florida who are 1 pt back of the Rangers with a game in hand. Totally agree, but there's not much else going on. Talking about possible playoff scenarios, even if it's redundant, is better than many of the alternative threads. I need some way to waste time when I should be working.
  16. They already have existing TV deals. Even with the current situation, I am pretty sure they cannot ignore those. I'm confident it's those TV deals are the main reason the NHL hasn't just cancelled the playoffs altogether. As for the playoff idea, I am not in favour of including every single team. The regular season, although shortened, should count for more than just seeding. At most, I would be in favour of a 20 team playoff. Have a 4 team wildcard round in each conference to get back to 16 teams, then proceed with the standard bracket. Maybe the early rounds could be shorter like best of 5. Just my two cents.
  17. I am all for a larger ice surface. However, I don't think you can just pull one row out on one side without winding up with weird sightlines. These rinks are built to be symmetrical. If you pull out a row from just one side everything would be off centre. And you may not be able to move the scoreboard. I think you would have to remove the rows equally on both sides of the rink. I know I am in the minority on this one, but I don't see any issue with having different sized rinks. The NHL used to do it. MLB has different sized outfields. Just start making all new rinks bigger. Start with Calgary and Long Island and go from there.
  18. That's one of the motivations for moving back to BC. In the five years I lived there I think the only month I didn't see snow was July. The first year I was there we even had snow on August long weekend. And no, it wasn't hail. We got plenty of that too.
  19. I just hate their weather. Oh, and the Flames and the Oilers.
  20. There's a lot of non-playoff teams on that list so I am not sure how you are making that connection.
