My understanding is that insurance only covers 80% of the value of the contract and not all contracts get insured. I guess the teams decide whether to insure or not. I imagine the premiums on the insurance is astronomical. -
2010 Vancouver Olympics 10th Year Anniversary Today
goalie13 replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
I was there as a volunteer (team supervisor) at Canada Hockey Place (aka Roger's Arena). I was with guest services. We helped people get through security outside the venue and helped people find their seats inside the venue. Our shifts would alternate between inside and outside shifts. It was an amazing two weeks. I met so many great people and saw loads of hockey when I was off-shift. On one particular day, I had just finished working a long shift and I was filling out my shift report. One of the coordinator dudes started asking how the shift went and such and what my plans were. I said I was just going to go home to watch the women's gold medal game. He asked if I would rather see it in person and dropped a ticket in front of me. I got to sit at center ice, about 8 rows up for the game. What an awesome experience. On an earlier shift, I was working inside for one of the men's games. I remember just as the game was ending, John Tortorella comes out of the section I was working and says 'Hey kid, what's the fastest way out of here.' so I helped get him to the nearest exit. I was almost 40, not a kid. I thought it was pretty funny. For the men's gold medal game I was scheduled to work outside. There was a huge screen on the side of the Ontario pavilion so we could watch the game while we worked. However, the broadcast was delayed by a few seconds. Each time something big would happen in the arena we would hear the crowd erupt and then get to watch it on the screen a few seconds later. One of the things that bewildered me was how many volunteers we lost. By about day three we were down 1/3 of our volunteers. I guess people thought they would just be hanging out watching the games the whole time and didn't realize that volunteering was actual work. The whole thing was such a great experience. I was rooting for Calgary to go after the 2026 games just so I could volunteer again. Maybe Salt Lake City in 2030. -
Found this interesting.

Not if they take on a $10.5M goaltender they won't. We have enough albatross contracts already thanks. -

No it's not. The Seattle NHLers could select him in the expansion draft if he agrees to waive his NMC. He could be a hero in Seattle like MAF is in Vegas. -
[REPORT] - Wild threaten to trade more players
goalie13 replied to grandmaster's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sounds like the reverse version of what Burkie once said to the locker room when he was Canucks GM. I can't remember the exact quote, but the gist of it was, give it your all and I won't trade anyone. -
For example: If I am not mistaken, Chrissy Brett was also the leader of the Victoria tent cities, despite not actually being homeless. It's like she's some sort of professional protester or something.
-
I have. The protest lately seems more like an organized, well funded campaign and not some grassroots movement. I wonder who might be benefiting from the delays?

Game is well under way. No more predictions. -
If it wasn't for the over/under question, not many points would have been handed out last game. Hopefully the next one will be a bounce-back game. Predict the winner and the score - (5pts for both, 1pt for just the winner) Bonus question - Which team scores first? (1pt) Bonus bonus question - Which player scores the first goal? (1pt) Updated leaderboard: Updated 2nd half top ten: My predictions: Preds win 3-2 Preds score first Johansen with the goal Good luck and Go Go!

I'll be cheering for Seattle, just because of proximity. It was good to see that nobody was injured on the opening play this time.

PREDICT THE SCORE CONTEST: Flames @ Canucks February 8th 2020
goalie13 replied to goalie13's topic in Canucks Talk
It's just for fun. This is the third year there has been a Predict The Score Contest running on CDC. It's the first year I'm running it. I post a new thread for each game. Points are awarded for correct predictions. I maintain a leaderboard for the entire season. At the end of the season someone will have the most points. We will start all over again next season. -
PREDICT THE SCORE CONTEST: Flames @ Canucks February 8th 2020
goalie13 replied to goalie13's topic in Canucks Talk
Welcome. Over/under refers to whether or not there will be more or less than 5.5 goals scored in the game, total for both teams. So if you believe there will only be three goals scored, that would be under. However, there is no rule that your over/under prediction, or even your GWG prediction have to be consistent. You are free to predict that Calgary will win 3-0 but that Jake Virtanen gets the GWG and that more than 5.5 goals are scored. It is totally up to you. I try to change up the bonus questions for each game. Enjoy! -
Not much fun to write about after a loss. Honourable mention to @WHL rocks for being the only one to collect a point for the GWG. Let's hope for a return to winning ways at home. It's Hockey Day in Canada. Predict the winner and the score - (5pts for both, 1pt for just the winner) Bonus question - Which player scores the GWG? (1pt) Bonus Bonus question - Over/Under on 5.5 goals scored (1pt) Updated leaderboard: Updated 2nd half top ten: My predictions (a bounce back win at home): Canucks win 4 - 1 Virtanen with the GWG Under Good luck and Go Go!

(Spitballing) Trade deadline predictions
goalie13 replied to PhillipBlunt's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I dunno, seems like a solid tag to me. I feel like the whole idea behind tagging proposal threads is that they don't look like actual trades have happened. Your tag succeeds in that regard. As for the purpose behind your thread... Prediction 1 - JB stands pat. The Canucks are too close to a playoff spot to be sellers, too far from a championship team to be buyers. Prediction 2 - Hall to Pittsburgh. He hasn't exactly worked out in Arizona and is headed for free agency. The Penguins actually have some cap space and could make it work. Picks and/or prospects in return. -
Not much to say about that last game. Final game of this road trip... Predict the winner and the score - (5pts for both, 1pt for just the winner) Bonus question - Which player scores the GWG? (1pt) Updated leaderboard: Updated 2nd half top ten: My predictions: Canucks win 5 - 2 Virtanen scores the GWG Good luck and Go Go!
