  1. I'd never been a big whiskey drinker..but then I (finally) got to see the Boardwalk Empire series, & propaganda washed over & thru... Scotch..bourbon..haven't tried the Irish stuff yet. & Gee willikers, this Japanese whiskey also ain't too shabby! I'll let you know when I get 'round to The Cap'n, Googlie
  2. Uncle Jack Daniels DESERVES his high horse..& he ain't gettin' off.
  3. The quality of the roster is shaping into a group of 23 perennial incumbents. That is, there will be 23 of such quality, youth & paid appropriately, that they'll be difficult to dislodge. That's not definite(on all prospects' trajectory)..but I'd say at least even$ that it's trending this way. Then a franchise enters an elite tier that only a few(perhaps TBay, CAR & COL, say) are at. With enough quality/quantity to perhaps stock 1.5 - 2 competitive NHL teams. So you've got even more youth coming. What deals will follow, recycling some excess into precise targets, and/or extra future picks? One aspect stands out for me here. Virtually all 'elite-tier' I mentioned, have been constructed though either/both of extra accumulated picks, or lotto pick success. JB (& Brackett, in fairness) seem to have spun this magic with neither!
  4. Nice post, but feel you omitted 1 key word. Miller, Bo, (maybe Jake?)..it's so damned nice to finally see us building a complete contender, with size included. Almost like JB's assembling a deluxe model, '94-2011 hybrid here.
  5. C'mon @qwijibo that lil' brain-input chip breaks the cool-factor scale. How can folks NOT love this? What an advantage for CP to be programmed by Plante, Dryden & Patty Roy!
  6. Less is more w/this pbp guy. John & John get it done nicely. Bring in KB3, if JG ever hangs up the 'stache.
  7. I've done most things that were(in 20's & 30's) important to me. Feel that adverts & social media exert external pressures upon us, which are best to be immune to. There's a hollowness it feels, in pursuing things that are mostly more important to others. Separate the wants & needs. Determine what NEEDS to be done. The 'wants' are later gravy(if one is so lucky). Another fun one is find a goal/skill that no one you know is very adept(or even, really cares about). Something that takes the proverbial 10,000 hrs to become proficient at. Freeing up available time is not easy for many. As the decades roll by, you start realizing the changing ratio, regarding importance of time:money
  8. Long as we all agree LouiE's stuck in a chequing-role!
  9. Hopefully we do get a resurgence from Baer. With the Div set-up & nasty, intensifying rivalries, there will likely be a fair share of injuries for most teams. We might need all the extra fwds as the season goes deeper & heavier.
  10. Seems Dubas has been flipping players/picks like we used to(decades back) with OPeeChee, player cards. Has he hastily built a castle with 4 highly paid princes, & 45 interchangeable pieces of flotsam & jetsam?! Inquiring minds wanna' know...
  11. Was he the mastermind who engineered the '93 acquisition of Hasek(from CHI) for a depth 'tender & 4th? Prob has to be top-5 in history, for larcenous, 1-sided trade wins. Sure didn't get much attn, at the time the deal was done. Then a few yrs later, apparently there was a fairly nasty showdown between GM Muckler & his coach Ted Nolan. I hope the two men over time, eventually came to a peaceful resolution. They did well for the franchise, in the mid-late 90's. RIP to a man whose life was dedicated to the game.
  12. Calling the Sens for a top-4 spot..quite unlikely, more sentiment than reason. Cal, Van, Mtl & Ott to make PO's. Canucks come thru, when it's for all the marbles.
  13. That pre-season vid Boro & EM did(2019, I think?)? Yeah, it was wrong, I would agree. Hopefully they've shelved that strategy forever.
  14. Wonder if seeing a rising young Russian star soon to join, also gives NT a nudge for urgency? They should help each other get rolling in a new environment. JB stated an emphasis on character in prospects. Yrs back(mostly that OTHER site) saw him get heckled for this. It's soooo nice now of all these young stars, you get the sense they'll all fit/gel cohesively. There don't seem to be any types with undermining egos & bad attitudes. Importantly, when they all age into bigger contracts, I bet they'll be able to financially fit more stars than many other rivals can manage.
  15. A question I find interesting. How many current owner/GM combos would trade all their 50 contracts for Ottawa's? Wouldn't you agree, the number must be in the 20's? Fanbases LOVE having hordes/masses of top youth on an incoming assembly line. You can actually plan new arena deals with such enthusiasm/momentum(if necc). Makes it rather obvious that they've executed a textbook, scorched-earth rebuild. Been applauding this bold move for 2 yrs now.
  16. Ftr, don't care if Canada loses here. I'm cheering on our guy to star in the Gold medal finale.
  17. It's time to call the 2021 all-Canadian Showdown. Div order at end of 56 game, reg season: 1. Flamers - Stealthily becoming a rather deep group..with decent cast of depth fwds & D. Jacob is a nasty wall, & the Garden Gnome is an angry lil' termite! 2. Canucks - We don't neeed to be front-runners. Just win at the end, when all chips are pushed forward. 3. Habs - Bergevin emerged from the raging blast-furnace of earlier Weber, Drouin gambles. His later moves are already bearing lotsa fruit. They got the mo out east 4. Sens - The surprise-darlings! Some of their impressive call-ups will provide fire hose-offense. Will be a treat to watch. Late fade on this young group, from building pro-pressure. 5. Coilers - Injuries & porous 'tending hack a leg from the barstooled-mullets! 6. Laffs - Team implosion best compared to an alpine-slide. Kyle Dubious is sent packing with his granny sweaters. Next GM sends saggy pants to the desert for Kuemper, Hayton & Chychrun. 7. 'Peg - Injuries & internal-strife take their toll. Laine is dealt off. At least they land a high pick at season's end.
  18. Also with ED approaching a concept like this is worth mulling. Valuation is hard here(subjective, etc...), but the idea has it's merits.
  19. Yeah, that really irked me too. Y'talk about "mailing it in"!
