This is a variation of an older idea. In these COVID times, I'd imagine Melnyk would be ecstatic. Would our owners take this plunge?..who knows? Incoming: about 42 mill expenditure. Outgoing: prob 8-10 mill(pending Ferlie's insurance coverage possibility) Ottawa: Colin White & Zaitsev. They add Logan Brown, or Brannstrom? Van: LouiEriksson & Ferland. Perhaps add Virtanen? ^The 2-player pkg's are both in the 9.5 mill AAV range The difference is our contracts are shorter/LTIR'd, or hollowed out; whereas their's are real $ over a longer term. But that longer term brings us to(perhaps?) rising cap times, & beyond the ludicrous cap-recapture BS of Luongo. If White doesn't regain form, he's the guy with the cheap 800k(x forever) buyout. At least these are two pieces we could use for the next couple yrs. I'd imagine our fanbase would rather place hopes on a Logan Brown type fulfilling promise, as opposed to waiting for a Virtanen to ever reach near his potential ? Younger & bigger too. Both players could prob nestle well within the opposite lineups. We get the better piece, due to the obscenely imbalanced cash commitment in the overall deal. The kicker/incentive for Ottawa? Melnyk gets almost 10 mill closer to the floor, perhaps only committing 2,000,000(next yr) towards that actual number. Yes(for those who point it out) I know he has more players to sign. But maybe it's all youth? Maybe he gets to 62, 63 mill, but really has to spend only about 50,000,000(Gaborik, LouiE, Ferly, etc...) creating his paper tiger.

[Signing] Flames sign Jacob Markstrom

GL to Jacob. We are so lucky to be here, at this juncture. JM coulda' been claimed, yrs ago. Gawd knows how we woulda' fared then? Prob would've tried to rush TD more. So we got two BRILLIANT yrs from JM. He often kept our smaller, slower squad from getting absolutely stomped on. Then, due to a (fortunate) small PO injury, we are blessed to discover the young gem we have in TD. Now we get support from a vet, with(comparably over 100 games) some of the best PO numbers in the game's history. What's not to like?! -
Listening to a 650 interview, sounds like he'll be a great team guy, & proper fit.

If he can find his earlier form, we're golden. A good, exp'd winner to help TD along. I'm in for this. -
It's gotta be a haul, cos' we're handing them access to Pietro...

& so ends the lengthy Linden-link..GL to Marky

Did he & RNH play youth hockey together? -
Like that Hague kid? Hey JYD, that's an interesting take. Rather be a buyer on youth, than a seller!

TD in game #4 might have turned the tide!

Alrighty then JB..goin' with the young guys! We're behind you on this call.

Outrageously Egregiously Lame Very nice that JB didn't cave to these clowns. I wanted a favourable deal, w/retention. If that ain't in the cards..F***'em!

With the uncertain economy, no secret some teams must be wanting to axe future $$$ commitments. I'd imagine the 'sunbelt' types probably can't count on their less passionate fanbases, to maintain interest in their respective NHL franchises. They'll lean heavily on the rev sharing scam, which may turn to a trickle... We've already seen some deals where decent players are dropped for middling picks. OEL to Van, should wind up as a prime example. Q- What's the most improbable(based from yr's past), imbalanced deal you can imagine going down? Will the beneficiary be a Cdn franchise, with more supportive fanbases still willing to spend on their local squads? I could see a deal like this occurring: Nashville: Duchene & Scissons Habs: Drouin & Tatar ^The AAV is similar(combined players; term is much longer on Nash pkg) In this example, Bergevin gets farther removed from his Drouin/Serg gaffe. Also Habs fully load up at C, adding more size to their fwd core. Scissons' oft-cited fine contract offsets the costly, long term Duchene-commitment. Poile makes such a sacrifice to acknowledge his gamble on loading costly C's has backfired(RyJo, Turris, Duch). He could flip Tatar for a pick at TDL, & significantly cut $ commitments over a long term. He'll still walk the plank soon, but this might appease ownership, somewhat. ^Above is mostly a pattern-deal to illustrate. In the days/wks to come, am predicting we'll see some deals that don't add up(player values)..but are motivated by a less cash-in, ca$h-out justification.

[Signing] Canadiens re-sign Josh Anderson
Nuxfanabroad replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
In fairness, if you're a Habs backer, you gotta think.. Galchenyuk..okay..didn't pan out fully. But we got some decent mileage outa' this guy... ->Domi. Hey, had a great season. Helped us bridge thru a tough yr or two. Gave 100% -> Josh Anderson? Well, getting bigger. Also team's bigger/deeper, so this guy shouldn't be leaned on as heavily. If he finds chemistry in your top-6, the whole(economical, ELC's & bridges to now) recycling-gig comes to fruition. -
[Signing] Canadiens re-sign Josh Anderson
Nuxfanabroad replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It's true, but man this kid had one heckuva' tango with Benn, yr or two back! It's gutsy..but I'll agree with Bergevin on this gamble. The downside is LTIR forevermore. -

Now sell high on Tatar? Hell, they've got FOURTEEN draft picks in 2021! Not too shabby -
Time for Melnyk & Dorion to step up to the plate..(the terrible-tandem!!! :^) Swap Junk: Zaitsev, Colin White, Anisimov, Abramov(about 15 mill outgoing) Nashville: Duchene & Ryan Ellis(same $$$, but longer-term) & with this deal, Poile jumps the shark, & abruptly retires! All his recent moves have backfired. So he dumps significant cash/cap in Subban, Turris, Duch, et al.. then takes his blindfold/ciggy exit, with honour. Sorry Mustard men..it's back to expansion-status for ya' all. If only Ottawa had a decent owner..contender-status in 1.5 yrs.

Don't even see why we all need to assess these various pieces emanating from the orig Kesler-shakedown. Bones, BS, Gud & TP..they've all played various roles in helping us bridge through a muddy, tough slog. But in that particular interim, we drafted great & now have set up a legit future. By having these various vet bodies, passing through, we've saved youngins' from having been thrown into the fray, before ripe & ready. It hasn't been absoLUTEly-textbook..but I'd historically revise it as a pretty damn smooth rebuild.(& stealthy too!)
