[Report] Matt Niskanen announces retirement
Nuxfanabroad replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
These convenient occurrences seem to happen for key US markets that are cap-hooped. Now watch JVR's contract get axed so he can nurse his aged Gramma, or something ludicrous. -
Okay, it's messy(& unlikely!) as Hell, but kinda like this deal Van: OEL, Logan Brown(or Norris), Christian Jaros Ariz: Virt, OJ, Baer, Benn, Hogberg, 2 late 2020 2nd rounders (#59 & #60, I think?) Ott: LouiEriksson, Stecher, Stepan, Kuemper, Van 2021 1st(lotto-protected) -We move out lots of bodies/AAV. Don't have to deal with most of the RFA nonsense too. Ariz gets to move out cash. Collect some youth & picks. Ott picks up some vets, a decent 'tender & adds another 1st to their stockpile.
-
Man out cycling in the mtns today. Come back & this place seems hostile as heck. You people stressed out?! :^)
-
Another aspect is Edler can be used as a sort of escape-route, perhaps? If it all goes poorly, he's one way we can open up 6 mill to better handle this new & expensive, lefty-D. Should it go smoothly, we can prob keep signing AE(maybe 2 yr deals?) for a reasonable AAV.
-
Pretty well summed up. Fortunately Beantowners have a few distractions: - scaffolding Chara for off-season renos - Dealing Tuuka(but trying to sound compassionate) - watching malcontents walk(even kid of SNet broadcaster) - Replacing Bergeron soon - Forgetting their 2015 draft-debacle..traumatic! - Maintaining cheese supply for the lil' rat, etc...
-
If they'd sign up for that, we'd prob already have a deal completed!
-
Be complicated, but a 3-way w/ Van, OTT, & Dismal Dogs? - we want talent/bang for buck - Ariz needs cap space & youth/picks/futures(after Chayka-nightmare) - Ott wants empty calorie-contracts As a basis: Van: OEL(1 mill held), Logan Brown, Jaros Diseased Dawgs: Baer, Benn, Virtanen, 2 late OTT 2nd's, Hogberg,(Rafferty/Woo/OJ..pick 1?) Ott: BroLouiE, Stecher, Gaudette, Kuemper, Stepan Van 2021 1st(lotto prot) Time for a dozen player deal , eh?! :^)
-
JB should demand they hold 1 mill(retention) for the contract. Even if we retained 1 mill on LouiE, & 2 mill on a Baer/Sutter type. Especially when Edler leaves, we can handle a 7-ish mill commitment, for a number of yrs.

[Buyout] Michael Grabner
Nuxfanabroad replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Finally we've fully developed him! It's been circuitous. -
I see posters throwing NT away for trinkets, & it's just depressing. After watching bullying & chicken noises at ice level, no less. Wanted to see a large, formidable Van team for too long now. If they F*** this up, it's unforgivable.
-
Afraid they're gonna deal him off, as a bandaid-solution for treating careless cap-cancer.
-
Our early foray into the PO's(that is, our rebuilt cast here & now) was quite a bit more impressive than early Nords/Avs' attempts. Recall they went up 2-0 in '93 vs Habs, then lost four straight. Whispers were emerging that Sundin WASN'T a big-game type. After bowing out early again in '94, Sundin was sent to the COTU, in quite a massive deal. To see THREE(highly touted) first overalls dealt away over such a short period was so unprecedented. Doubt we'll ever see that again. Quebec owners/GM would prob not have even attempted such brazen moves if there'd been such a thing like the internet, back then. Anyhoo, what yr specifically did you mean?
-
I can hear James Brown wailin'... Take me to the bridge Let's go to the bridge... Bahm, bahm, bahm bahm bahm...WHAMP! Stay on the scene(get up on it) Like a 'Nuckin-machine(get up on it)...

Clay's Canucks Commentary - October 2020 (vlogs)
Nuxfanabroad replied to Canuck Clay's topic in Creative and Media Forum
They'll prob strip that team down to shambles, then send it to Quebec. Hope QC has the dignity to say, "No thanks!" Like the dismal Thrashers tossed into Winnipeg. It's the reverse, when a problem team(for $$$) has loads of youth. QC to Avs, for example. So watch Ottawa get sent stateside.- 46 replies

I alluded to all this in my Nordiques thread(proposals). I agree Forsberg was really something..but he didn't last as long(health). Could see a similar thing happening with Hughes. I don't like sinking 10 mill into a smallish D-man. We'll always be dealing with two rulebooks in this F***ing rigged league. So I'd prefer a D of redwoods. Also don't know if a lineup with 3 or 4 superstars is sustainable, for a Cdn team in this cap system. Might be wiser to aim for 6 or 7, 5 to 6 mill stars, & round out a balanced roster. Maybe EP is the one superstar. A young Hedman-type on the blueline would be nice too. It's very rare to see young superstars dealt early(hence the Nords/Avs early 90's reference). Furthermore I don't anticipate JB taking(what appears) unnecessary risk. They're doing pretty well(with a rebuild) so far. of course. As for contracts, would give EP more. Wouldn't go higher than 8 on QH.
-
I hold a controversial view on this matter, that I'll currently omit :^) But to me, EP is our Joe Sakic, as he was in the early 90's.

Another reason there's a similar vibe now to 3 decades back. New, incoming franchises. There were more newbies then, over a shorter time-frame, of course. But the league was shaken up & adjusted, welcoming a southern wave(sunbelt), in an aggressive move to expand the game into non-traditional markets. With eastern markets/Russian players arriving en-masse, there was suddenly an expanding pool of available talent. It's a completely different reason(COVID 19), but some franchises might not last, & some appealing player deals might be offered to markets that can better afford financial-extravagance. OEL could be an early prime case. With all this economic-uncertainty, FA's at a song might parallel the sudden influx of talent(from Europe) seen three decades back. ******************** There are a number of reasons it might be wise to consider the moves the Nords executed back then. There was no cap, but the financial constraints of that ownership may well simulate a cap scenario.
-
So maybe they know this franchise is moving soon(info that's closely protected)? In this event, they'd like to move as many expensive assets(beforehand) as possible. Moving out the young GM might have also helped. Then after moving(finally folding the desert Dog) watch Battman return the rest of their penalized picks(fresh start & all that)
-
Nice to see some vet talent eyeing Vancouver as a desirable landing spot, once again. With the Sh**show south of the border, it's a trend that might keep increasing.

Make the OEL deal for Bro LouiE, Virt & OJ. What would NJ give us to unite the Hughes Bros? Van: Quinn, Baer & Benn/Sutter NJ: Damon Severson, Bahl(huge local kid), #7 OA pick, NJ 2021 1st Maybe draft Sanderson or Drysdale? Would NJ add even more? Bet they'd pay through the nose. OEL - Severson Edler - Myers Fantenberg - Rafferty/cheap FA? you could even afford to keep Tanev, if he took a short deal Rathbone, Bahl, Woo & Tryamkin soon to be injected. Cost certainty, & no cap squeeze going forwards In 2 or 3 yrs, one of the biggest(& youthful) D-cores in the league To have more top ELC's is an underappreciated treasure.
-
Could he be feigning disinterest ? Cos' that's a pretty smooth way to set up bargain acquisitions.
-
Wouldn't mind it. OEL(retain 1 mill x 7 yrs) van: OJ, Virtanen, LouiE the Lump(retain 1 mill x 2 yrs), 2021 1st(top-3 lotto protection) There is another monster deal I'd consider after this.

Excellent documentary(s) on youtube, on the decline of empires. Primarily based on the research of UK's Sir John Glubb, mid 20th C work. They usuallly have about a 200-250 yr run, & the downwards spiral mostly depicts what we're seeing today. One last telltale sign is a brazen grasp and/or devious exploitation of any $/resource that isn't nailed down. I reckon it's always too late to observe these nasty deeds, after the fact. The populace needs to identify & act, asap, if possible. Or we simply need to heed the words of important social critic(moreso than comedian) George Carlin..."It's a private club, & YOU ain't in it!"

Hmm, conversely I'd suggest in 2020 it(this here thread) couldn't be more timely & relevant. Just the same, a good day to you gentlemen.
