Canucks & Habs(2 Proposals)
Nuxfanabroad replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Yeah, but there's Rous Aside from Drouin's nasty stipend, seems him & Jake would be an understandable swap(local guys; highly touted/picked). -
Past coupla' days been considering the 2 franchises possibly dealing. First, don't know if JB & Bergie are on chummy terms(to do biz)? So there's that. Do think the two squads are in relatively similar situations. Key diff is Mtl has 2 LTerm vets on high cap hits...perhaps how we felt back in the day with Daniel & Henrik? Both teams appear trending upwards, with some exciting prospects due to arrive soon. Then both squads also have some contracts they'd prob like to dump. Well, here's a couple ideas... Deal #1: Drouin & Alzner Van: Shotgun Jake, LouiE, & Benn Possibly Louie could become Roussel, but then we'd require about 1.5 mill retained on Alzner. So much griping about Drouin, bet Habs-backers would like to cut him loose. Note he has 3 yrs left at a pretty high hit(5.5 AAV), but we're not exactly deep on the port side, especially if we moved Tanner before next season's out. Never know..guy might have chemistry with EP or Bo? Deal #2: Danault & Alzner Van: Virtanen, Roussel, Sutter This deal they take on more bucks(uncertain number, as Jake is RFA). But of course we get the albatross for 2 yrs. A central question is could we AHL-bury Alzner for 2 yrs? Assume Louie is somehow dealt with(perhaps deal with NJ or OTT)? A buyout next yr for Alzner would be 2.3 mill & then 1.1 mill(perhaps manageable) edit: wanted to add, don't know if these are 'sideways' proposals. But I figured these are two interesting partners to discuss...

VAN Ranked #3 For Prospect/Young Depth & Quality
Nuxfanabroad replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Canucks Talk
Think it's also notable from our top-10 break-down: fwds 5 Dmen 4 & 1 'tender Every off-season, seemed there were howling wails for 1 positional need, or another. Appears it's becoming more balanced, as time moves along. We have a fine, young(er) team. All bad contracts kiboshed in 2 yrs. We have a young nucleus competitive with almost any other franchise(so.. sustainability) We're well-positioned(many top assets ineligible) for the upcoming ED What's not to like? -
(Newer than the newest) 2019-2020 Time Capsule Prediction Thread
Nuxfanabroad replied to Canorth's topic in Canucks Talk
I think a lot of these numbers were fairly close/accurate. We did have a good PP Jake, Bo, BB, TP were almost a bullseye I was optimistic(had thought) on Hughes & Miller. Couldn't forecast they'd be so awesome. -
[Proposal] Swap of bad Contracts
Nuxfanabroad replied to CR7's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
The buyout-aspect is why this could fly. If we suffered through 1 more season of such contracts. end of 2021 season, buyout: LouiE is 4 mill & then 1 mill(due to bonuses) But Cory S is only 2 mill & 2 mill.(more manageable) Imagine in 2022 having Lu & Cory penalizing us with $5,000,000 in cap hit? RiggedCasinoLeague & media would love to snicker at that. -
VAN Ranked #3 For Prospect/Young Depth & Quality

Another aspect that doesn't get enough attn/appreciation: JB's emphasis on character. Imagine you're a young puck-stud, highly touted & drafted. You're nervous coming into your first pro gig, hoping new teammates will be inclusive, & coaches will give you opportunities at success. As you think about it, these two things may well go hand-in-hand. Would you rather arrive in a COTU, Hogtown, with several well-paid brat-stars(pull up yer trousers, you!), or perhaps the picturesque west coast, with young players displaying character on par with their growing skills? Hmm.. tough choice! *****************What happens?!************ with the 2nd or 3rd wave of arriving quality youth, should a franchise be so lucky to maintain strong drafting/dealing over an extended period? Would be interesting to backtrack decades & do case-studies with teams in such scenario(great character early studs vs ego-maniacs!). I'll just throw it out there today, how important the personalities/character might be in this context. That, & quality vets to keep these waves fitting in. IF JB had drafted like MG-quality(these past 5, 6 yrs) none of this would matter now, & everyone would be trying to max buck, or skedaddle. Because he has unearthed so many gems, the prioritization on character should have a multiplicative effect upon youth's future success. -
VAN Ranked #3 For Prospect/Young Depth & Quality

^Why I've been figuring we should let CT go chase down some healthy $$$ & term. Time to blend more youth into the shuffle. -
Yeah..Van makes the final-8 teams. Then today, hear their prospect/youth-stash is ranked #3 OA(as per Pronman). Moving up from #5 in 2019. There ya go, HFHaterz. Put that in yer pipe & smoke it!

VAN Ranked #3 For Prospect/Young Depth & Quality
Nuxfanabroad replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Canucks Talk
Darn impressive, DIR. Was also mentioned that BB, Thatcher & Gaudette all 'aged-up' from last yr(where Van was ranked #5 OA). So mostly on the strength of their 2019 draft class, they kept moving upwards, despite other youth slightly above the cut-off. -
Apparently as per that Pronman bloke(The Athletic?) we're only behind the Rags & Devilish ones. Them two NY area entities having been gifted numerous Lucky(ya right) bounces of the Bettman-lotto. Just lifted this info from blogger Clay, Canuck-backer on his youtube channel. Even after spending Madden/2nd at TDL, they still have this impressive showing. Have said a couple times, but Benning's stash must be raising some interest?.. Can't help wonder if we'll be parting with some young gems(alongside albatrosses) at the nearing draft? Criteria is players/prospects under 22 yo; or under 25, provided they haven't yet played(50-ish?) or so games yet. So a guy like Rafferty would be included in our evaluation. So yeah..#3. Not too shabby, eh?

You're advocating to coach afraid. When the league tells you it's 5-in-7, you'd best get creative & show faith in reinforcements. "Time honoured trads" are tired euphemisms from old-fashioned hockey minds, too nervous to be bold & assertive. -
