Tired of moaning with expectations & demands(and/or hearing them from others) w/ regards to the lineup. We've spent a fair amount of summer FA $, attracting these vets..presumably to help this team get to the PO's. This is their chance to come through, & earn their pay. So I'm choosing to trust JB & TG with their chosen lineup. Win 3 outa' 5 vs the Minny Miscreants & they achieve last Sept's goal. GCG!!! -

There was an important early Dec game, I recall this clearly. We all bash LouiE, but Nurse dove on his bump SOOOO egregiously..led to a PP that decided the tainted game. I legitimately felt bad for Bro LouiE at that moment. It was that bad. -

Are they counting these individual player points(play-in rd) for each player's career Playoff pts?! Hope not..that's bogus. -

Your numbers look realistic to me. Hard to engage in that too deeply..AAV/term could be tweaked, or even NMC/NTC's where JB decides to risk it. I see a bigger factor at play, that I haven't really seen discussed anywheres, tbh Will Van become a MIGHTY desired destination, all of a sudden? If you're a young pro athlete, do you really wanna' be around all that political, social (& gunsy) discord down in the lower 48?! I wouldn't. I get the impression ownership(alongside an impressive alumni) will make Van appear a mighty special place, where devoted vets are well taken care of. Already a rising team(young stars) in a beautiful gem of a landscape. It's for this^ reason I haven't spent much time concerned about our AAV numbers. If guys really want to be here,(& they make a tangible impact) they'll find a way.

Worst?.. Flame out vs the Mild(we'd pick around #12, 13 ish..should be a good player, at least). This scenario our boat anchor contracts likely require buy outs, wherever possible. Feel it's more likely we try a risky trade, if in this position. Either risk a trade, Or Toffoli/Tanev walk. Best: Go on a run & win, (at least a couple rds). The 1st is paid off, so team doesn't feel under the gun, whenever next season occurs. You'd have to imagine 2 or 3 vets have a decent playoff here. Selling(maybe with retention, or adding decent prospect) becomes plausible. Could also risk allowing Tanev to pursue $ & term on the market. Give a bigger chance to youth on the blueline.

@DarkIndianRises Thanks for the above explanation, & quite agree. There's another aspect that doesn't get much mention: holding back some ELC's from bursting onto the scene too swiftly, which can get mighty expensive. Imagine we'd drafted Tkachuk, Ehlers(& Boeser) & they all somehow thrived to a comparable level. The cap would be a greater mess now, & you'd have a hollowed-out roster, prob with injured p***ed vets. Some of your shiny youth might start to buckle under the weight/expectations of next contracts. Then the team prob finished a little higher, missing many of the gems that were selected over the following 3 yr cycle of drafts(2017-2019). Prob better to view cap(AAV expense) as the flow of a river..81.5 being the dam's limit. If you draft too many stars, there will almost inevitably be some overflow. Look at TBay today, for example. Within this given system, it's likely the best trouble to have. 2014-2016: most of our drafted prospects were scattered in various leagues, taking longer to get to the show. Some of them underperformed(relative to draft position). If a couple of them start to turn it on(Jake, OJ, & Big Nik, let's say) well, we'd be able to lock them in next contracts quite reasonably. They'll now be old enough to have learned/lived a bit, & can help transition into roles some departing vets played. note: not just drafted guys too, but of this approx age-group(like Stecher, Motte, etc...) 2017-19: & this is where the scouts/FO started hitting the bullseyes. Yet there's enough depth built up that we didn't have to rush these elite picks from day 1. When our vets are heading out the door, these beauties will be exiting ELC's. We'll be able to keep(virtually intact) all key pieces from these first 2 waves of a youth-influx. If they somehow keep drafting at the gaudy level they've recently established, this franchise will be golden for a longgg spell. Also find their emphasis on character(in acquired youth) smart & encouraging. I think these young buds will all come together to make the numbers work. Folks(esp that Other site) can yammer & complain all they want! Personally I'm more optimistic for the team's future than I was back in 2009, 2010(ish)...

Funny thing about Duran Duran. One of my private students(about 18 yrs back) proudly exclaimed, "I was a groupie for Simon LeBon! Whenever he came to Japan he'd call me!" (was that his name? no interest in that 80's boy band tripe!) But Lordee this girl looked the part! She got hired by JAL as a flight attendant, so didn't stick around Osaka much longer. Had me thinkin back to youth, wishin', fishin', I'd been a musician. I mean look at'em yoyos..playin' guitar on yer MTV... -
(Proposal) Blockbuster trade proposal

If we won it all this Fall, then I'd consider something(almost) as zany as this..but now, I'd give this a negative. Interesting to ponder the ramifications though..which is better than many proposals achieve. -
