Canucks can only sign two of Toffoli, Tanev or Markstrom
Nuxfanabroad replied to Me_'s topic in Canucks Talk
Agree with trading BB. Great kid, but it makes sense. The cupboards were sooo empty when JB took over. We can't go squandering young(TDL)assets now. Brock would be hugely marketable in a US city. A 1st & good young player with size/speed would be an ideal return. & if we get Nik's John Henry, I'd prob let CT walk. He's been a helluva' soldier..let him go nab a hefty 5 yr deal. Guy deserves a windfall. -
Tony Strecher should be kept around. This is a guy they should adapt into a RhD/RW hybrid. Promise him a lengthy career in Canuck duds if he made such a sacrifice. He would likely accept a modest AAV, with NTC. Great commitment from this kid; he'll evolve into an important leader.

Classic Goalies and Classic Tunes...

Love the diff styles of the old tenders. Time to BAN the BUTTERFLY! (2 min penalty for butterfly-nonsense). Can only use 1 knee at a time. -
[Signing] Blue Jackets re-sign Elvis Merzlikins

When Tiger asked BCTV's John McGeachie, "Where d'ya get your hair cut?!" during an intermission-interview, he shoulda' nailed down a top-10, all-time! edit: Glen Hanlon(The Franchise) deserves mention. Early on before injuries, he looked like a future superstar, in the late 70's. Saw him play a game vs the Habs powerhouse, where the fans kept giving him Standing O's..what a show he put on(when hot)!

NHL Draft to remain in June (Proposed)
Nuxfanabroad replied to aGENT's topic in General Hockey Discussion
NHL should offer a deal to all players on expiring contracts. If injured, guaranteed 75% of current income, for 2 or 3 more seasons(say, depending over/under 30 yrs old) For teams it wouldn't count against the cap, if said player can't play. At least all players would have some degree of insurance/protection. BOG & NHLPA should find agreement on such possibilities rather easily. -
[Discussion] Will a Team Fold and Relocate?

Who would've predicted neg prices for a barrel of oil? All paradigms will go out the window; & one can learn more reality from a game of Monopoly than the blather from highfalutin' economists! -

[Discussion] Will a Team Fold and Relocate?

The elephant in the room deserves mention: The USA $ maintaining status as the world's reserve currency. What if it ever crashes? How do other regions/nations feel when the Fed can just type up 10 TRILLION smackers to temporarily keep the charade going? Sooner or later, the paper everyone yearns for, becomes monopoly $ It's a sacred domino which sets off everything, so impossible to anticipate what would follow next. What happens to other currencies? Do societal elites(like pro athlete-stars) want something beyond mere monopoly bux, to compensate their efforts? If we(the general society) can just print CASHHHH in times of need/duress, why not just hand 2 billion to Bettman/his minions & sort all these worries today? The buck stops...where?! No one knows. -
Uncertainty, sure..but this is pretty solid analysis. A type of speculation/projection, with plenty of logic to back it. The Sens are possibly in the best situation, if something like this transpires. A hoard of youth, with books almost wiped clean, & ready to sign any/everything. & I'd expect Canadian teams will be a more favoured destination(trades, FA's, etc...), if this black swan chaos drives societies(& major urban centers) closer to the brink.

"Fruit from a poisoned tree"..hmm, thank you Alex Christoforou. Interesting episode(#526) on the degree of corruption within the OPCW. Hard to find reasonable analysis/insight nowadays..the two Alexes are a Godsend. -

Melnyk, Sens Wound Up Looking Like Geniuses
Nuxfanabroad replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in General Hockey Discussion
The Sens deserve a bump for haphazardly stumbling into paradi$e. All this uncertainty, from the NHL heights, to our everyday lives. Yet here they sit, with an enviable stash of youth, & a hoard of draft picks. All that, & about 35,000,000$$$! BELOW! next season's cap floor(of course that 2020-21 number will likely be revised). If there are compliance buyouts, OTT will be able to add some motivated vets, on the cheap. -
Who owns most of the US Debt? The US itself does.
Nuxfanabroad replied to SabreFan1's topic in Off-Topic General
These are huge programs and the Fed is bending the law to buy things it otherwise couldn't because it's putting the Treasury on the hook for the first few billion in losses. As we saw in the housing crisis, those AAA-rated tranches of commercial mortgage-backed securities might not be so secure after all. And what happens if/when they get downgraded while the Fed his holding them? The definition of a medium-sized business as less-than 10,000 employees with $2.5B in revenue is certainly rich, but not as rich as calling it a 'main street' lending program. It only kinds asks that 'reasonable efforts' are made to keep employees. In any case, there's no sense lamenting the Treasury takeover of the Fed, this is a huge program that will counteract the pain of the slowdown. However unlike the Treasury's PPP program, these loans won't be forgiven so it really is liquidity at cheap rates. As you would expect, the US dollar is softening here and gold is climbing and is $30 away from a new post-crisis high. Thanks. Yest on Zerohedge saw an article about "Debt jubilee". All economic-expertise/orthodoxy/Propaganda they've pitched will be rendered moot. Rules goin' out the window. I've always had a soft spot for the workin class, little guy, & know this won't go well for the less fortunate in society. That said, I'm hearty, determined, with an eye to the future. I've fully stocked a large room(wall to wall) with toilet paper. After all, the day will arrive where I can take it to the pawn shop to exchange for currency! -

This was an interesting thread that deserves a bump. Debt(globally, in particular) was an issue that many intelligent analysts(mostly alternative, and/or independent commentators, NOT MSM) were long warning about. The lackey media & PTB will want to blame the Corona-Bug. Their reprehensible tactic to grab whatever else remains. But it(Covid19) is just a pinprick for this massive, exponential, elephant-in-the-room, ugly debt-bubble, destroying the prospects for future generations. So many folks here are just looking at life through a sports perspective. It's probably worthwhile we'd better start contemplating a coming new world, unrecognizable when compared with the relative leisure/prosperity we've(mostly) all experienced for the past several generations. -
Just our luck, we'll(finally) win it all, when fans have to celebrate in their living rooms. Some solo..perhaps w/mannequins? Kind of like the sound of one hand clapping. Then of course, a virtual parade?! Set up carnival floats in your living room, & somehow we simulcast some extravaganza online? What a riot...

Notable Canuck Trades That Almost Happened (Discussion)
Nuxfanabroad replied to KKnight's topic in Canucks Talk
Heard Pitt was hot after Tanti & John Garrett..they dangled Mario. Wisely, we stayed patient. -
Can you recall the Russian team? Also(bet many fans would like to hear) was the experience of playing 1970's Russian players significantly different, than suiting up vs your usual NHL peers?

Pretty cool you're posting on here, RB. Wasn't sure if it was actually yourself, or perhaps some 70's fan(even fam member?) Could you help me with a distant memory from that time? Ma took me to an aunt's(in Burnaby) who had a TV that worked..we were dirt poor at the time. Reason was Canucks were playing a Russki team(Spartak?.I forget), & I HAD to see this, or the world would stop turning. I recall a 2-0 finish, & you had both goals. Curt Ridley the shutout. Is this memory correct, because I haven't seen reference to this tilt for 4 decades.(thnx)

Sad news, PB. He had a few of those tunes you just had to hear(for the soul) every now & then. You only needed to hear him sing a few words & knew, this must be a pretty decent bloke. Just the two of us(w/ sax man Washington) is one of them lifetime gems. RIP & thanks, Mr Withers.

Good luck, CT. Hope you can make it happen

Modern society(w/ all it's amenities) is an illusory, fantasy bubble. Essentially many(most, all??) have been like a nouveau riche, fantasy isle individual/fam/tribe member, who has lived beyond their means. Decades of a plastic life, sustained with a plastic credit card. Prob the case in most OECD nations. We've "kicked the can down the road" for a few generations. Now all cards are getting cut, & angry irresponsible lenders will start acting like bullying loan sharks. Personally I feel blessed/fortunate to have experienced 5 interesting decades(almost evenly split) between 2 pretty cool countries. But figure we're entering a completely new ballgame now, & appetites/expectations should be severely downsized. I'd been expecting this(SHTF) for some time now...
