  1. Well, constraints of the cap is a big factor. We have a few poor contracts, penalties, etc... You've gotta pick a poison.
  2. I'll guess Brock might be dealt to Minny, in the off-season. Take back picks, to open cap. Toffoli, Jake..Lind & Pod as well. RW is getting deep.
  3. Vegas looks nasty-tough. We NEED the big Russki!

  4. I heard he lived in a yurt by the Nikomekl River & some weed smoker stole his mtn bike?!
  5. You'd figure he'd be totally on that?
  6. Deal him w/mama Kass in leather vests. They can pretend they're Swan & Ajax?!
  7. Or he further bangs up that knee which needed surgery(didn't closely follow that story SNet was hyping), but apparently he needed/decided foregoing knee-work? They lucked out. Drai seems as good, & is 4 mill cheaper. Guy's big & durable too. The gist? Over the next generation(say 10-15 yrs) I bet more teams win it all w/balanced rosters, as opposed to imbalanced teams(2 or 3 guys pulling down 5,6 times more than most teammates). Last yr's winner is a pretty good example of a balanced roster/salaries(Broon goons too). The yr prior(Caps) is a little closer to the latter.

  9. Kid's as welcome as a pod of Orcas!
  10. With life's potholed, tumultuous path, I'd become averse to the Disneyfication of everyone's rose coloured narratives. But HOLY-Jumpin! You've improved this ending 1000%eh?!
  11. There's an interesting variety of opinions in this thread. Wish you could all be more like me(thinking about the future)..where I change my mind hourly!
  12. Been kicking around a hypothesis for a while..that of a young, cohesive(proportionally-compensated) group, that's speedy, sizable & well-balanced, vs an unbalanced team of 2 or 3 superstars, & requisite-filler. I expect folks to trot out the old Pens, Hawks examples, but I don't think this blueprint is viable, in remote, tax-disadvantaged, Cdn markets. Your depth guys become increasingly sh+ttier. Furthermore, with the improvements in training, scouting & coaching, I suspect the gap between the pyramid-top, player-elite, & lower-tier 2nd/3rd liners is narrowing. So If a GM can collect a few stars(w/character) who'll play for less, it's a huuuge advantage.(sure hope it happens for us!) With the above deal^ I'd contend over the next 3-5 yrs BOTH Edm & Ott would improve.
  13. Have to agree with this post. Myself, I did certainly underestimate the on/off ice, leadership contributions of the 4 greats you've mentioned. With every passing day, Gent Jim looks wiser, with his declared emphasis on character & leadership.
  14. It would have to be part of a return. For example, Mrazek. They just lost Dougie Ham too. Van: Tanev, Markstrom & decent prospect(Gadj perhaps?) Canes: Mrazek, Bean or Necas, TML 1st rounder
  15. Everyone heckled Dorion, claiming DWilson took him to the woodshed, on the Karlsson-doozy. Who's laughing now? Players like MacKinnon & Pastr are prob more valuable(than McD, in trade scenario) nowadays, because of their cap hit in ratio/relation to performance. Because Dorion flogged those(soon to be) overpriced assets of vet UFA's, he could build up the enviable capital of top picks & prospects. Now with the books almost clear of last gen's hits & misses, he can reinvest $(like paying Chabot, next Tkachuk), & perhaps 30-50% of those player/pick assets into some young, established stars. Going forward, the Sens could be in a 10x better position than the Laffs. They even have the tattered, multi-revised, crumpled Laff blueprint, as a visible reminder not to F*** up a foundation, before building some glorious celebration-center.
  16. Would just mess up their cap. That's 15 mill for the first two alone(in 2021). People are underestimating the true value of talented youth, on 2 or 3 yrs of ELC. Look how well Edm is faring without McD nowadays. They should consider dealing him, & balancing their lineup.
  17. This would occur during summer(Gretzky-esque)..after Edmonchuk finally sees some daffodils! I'll paint some details, to reveal the crystal ball quite clearly: - Edm bounced in 1st rd. McD has meh series..not quite healthy yet - Secretly he's not really happy in that town. Wouldn't mind returning east - Drai wins Hart w/124 pts. Ready to be the new leader -Their roster too shallow, & dependent upon 2 stars - They pay McD's 13,000,000$ bonus! He's a 1 mill $ freebie, next season. They've paid him 43 mill(this contract) for only 2 seasons. 57 mill for 6 more on the books Ottawa calls! They need a new bldg, & McD is the ticket to deliver. NHL would be happy with the guy being out east, as well. Ottawa has a tonne of expiring contracts, & loads of top ELC youth. McD could step in & lead a young, exciting Ontario-climber. They're the perfect team to take on 6 more yrs of a 12.5 mill cap hit - The Sens land the #2 & #7(San Jose) OA picks. Take Byfield & Perfetti. The latter becomes part of pkg. EDM: McDavid & Matt Benning OTT: Colin White Drake Batherson Alex Formenton(speedster-winger) Jacob Bernard-Docker (D-man from Ab) Mads Sogaard(monster-sized 'tender) 2020 1st, Perfetti ******************************************************* Edm cleans up their books, while adding 2 incoming waves of ELC-additions. You heard it here first :^)
  18. Well, after this motherDuckin'-Debacle, it seems increasingly apparent that LaFreniere is gonna just tumble into our lotto-lap. Woo-hoo.
  19. I left after 1 period..bad vibes. Cycling in the mtns. Return & check pc(hopeful-like)..ah well. Gonna need patience kiddies. PO's might still be a dogfight.
  20. There are too many variables to give simple Y/N answers to such questions. For example, I find OJ & Byram pretty poor comparables. Trouble for me(talkin' trades with all U guys) is I have little to no access(or time) to view/rate prospects. I mostly base opinion on short clips, draft placement, & info I randomly grab from various posters. Here in Asia I only use NHL.com website to view big league tilts..that's it. In my teens/20's I used to love watching younger players, & try to project who I thought had the real goods to be a top pro. I've prob substituted this old interest, into formulating random, crazy trades outa' thin air. If I can dream up a system whereby I can forecast future deals(perhaps 10-20% of the time?) I'll likely open a fortune telling stand in downtown Osaka instead. One of my students had a Father doin' such a gig..there's pretty good demand here. Stylish young ladies who want to know what love-life is in store. Look at their graceful palms & wax optimistic..I bet they're more agreeable/pleasant that 90% of us CDC'ers.
  21. Fair enuff..gotta head out the door, Q. I'll chime in later for more yakkin on these things. I'm interested to see what the Habs do(next wk) with them sliding back, & a hosted draft. They should be fun commentary
  22. Don't know, Alf. He won Cups with Roy. Then he won Gold with Price. He might know precisely what it takes. Arguing that this trade serves both markets' needs.
