Had a strange dream: Our Van gang confidently walkin' a desolate Long Isle beach in Flyin' V, leather vests(led by Bo, EP & Bro LouiE)..suddenly bottles start clicking, & a plaintive wail arises: "Orca whalesss..come out to play-ay-ayy..." Well you know what happens next. Our guys easily take care of biz. Then are approached by three figures, near the shore: Trotz-Munster, Buttman & Dr Evil, saying in unison: "You Orca Whales are GOOOD, reaalll good...RIFF!" (so then I woke up) GCG! -

Been so much nice progress(yr on yr), that I feel compelled to note one sobering point: I'm somewhat skeptical that we'll continue to see rapid gains Next Jan/Feb(2021). Don't really think they'll dip..but perhaps maintain this current level, for a yr or so? Nice that many Div opponents appear to be sliding backwards. This should help. -

Oughta' apologize for wearin' his Frack-face! -
Was thinkin' back to the original BR, Ghosts..but you always sort me out on movies! Btw, I'd also seen the original Mad Max(where you posted on Humongous)..the Mel Gibson flick was fun, back in the 80's. Basically, since moving to Asia I've almost ignored Hollyweird material(about 2 decades worth). Hard to top flicks from the 1970's, ain't it?

In truth I see even more upside now. There are ingreds this franchise has never had, like QH. There don't appear to be any detracting drama queens/divers/etc...The stated emphasis on character has set a high bar. & incoming youth? Pondering JB/Brackett's handiwork of incessant ELC's is like standing on the shore, watching waves rolling in. These guys are Good! -

Love what JB has done to this info, in JUST 1 yr! We've leapfrogged the last 3 teams you listed here. In truth, wouldn't trade our 50 contracts with ANY of those teams that were rated so high, just one yr back... -

Indeed..beautiful, ain't it? After bumping this old thread, just glanced at the views..1970! It's been 50 yrs..finally we have a trending upwards team, with a wealth of youth to follow. Faith in our coach & front office, & a cast of dependable, truly likeable, top stars. I'm really enjoying this team now. All the elements are set. -

I like how this thread has aged. It gives a nice look at how our team has beautifully progressed, yr on yr. Pls note: Started it in late Jan, 2019, with further updates(& title-tweak) in early February. -
What's a well-run thread without a lil' hypocrisy & hubris?! :^)

More relevant info: - Prob most posters are aware, but Sens have 30-40 million opening up in a couple months. Outrageous amount of UFA's, RFA's & probable incoming ELC's - Will they keep selling pieces(TDL) forever? Presumably they'll need some vets to shepherd their incoming tsunami of fresh-faced ELC's. We do have a significant number of seasoned vets, with decent reps for helping young players along. - Even some 'dead cap'(LTIR forever; Callahan, MacArthur types) is expiring this spring @Chris12345 You suggested Aquas might be averse to taking on all this $$$ commitment. But if it straightens out the Van cap ceiling books, surely they make those expenses back with a higher-performing team? I could see some US owners maybe balking at such expense(if their market has empty seats & lacks passion). So this is where we might have the inside track on such a deal. Owners know a winner in BC pays back Heavily, in spades. In a cap-paradigm league, this is the type of deal where a committed Cdn market can exercise & leverage that fan passion with extra cash & clout.

That's a nice variation, Jan. Yeah, there are dozens of possible permutations with the main pieces(LouiE; White) to start out from. If we can manage a nice PO run(fingers crossed) all assets rise slightly, in their relative-value.
-
& these things never have to be precisely called(almost impossible to dream up both side's assets moving). There could be names like Sutter, Ferland, etc... Basically Sens/Melnyk like dead cap that eats up space, & maintains the cap floor. Whereas Van needs to drum up a little space, to squeeze thru a couple more tight yrs. A case can easily be made where these two teams could scratch the other's back. The perimeter pieces are not hugely important, & can certainly be adjusted/seasoned for flavour. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Dorion/JB do further biz this summer.
-
You shouldn't speak in absolutes(about trade spec), as frequently as you do. There are many variables involved, & you can't claim to know what Melnyk is thinkin' - even if you're his own brother!

Just got back from a 2 hr run, RB(we a runnin' joke here?!)..seems every time I read your reply, just returning from LSD(long, slow distance) where I was goin in circles! Yeah, I'd really like to see a deal like this to clean up the books. Sake has been known to expedite dirty biz...
