  1. The way we've been drafting, we should mostly remain optimistic. Might be AG, Madden, Focht, or another? So nice to have a wealth of kids to keep tabs on.
  2. Mikheyev looks like a big, skilled Winger that can motor, L2..albeit, still adjusting to a new league/lifestyle. One never knows with these, until the plunge is taken. Guy might not take flight, or he might have great chemistry with Bo, EP, or even AG?
  3. As wks roll by JYD, I bet we'll all be sold on the kid..just a beauty
  4. Okay..twist my arm. Baer to Buff for a 3rd or 4th(& beautiful cap space). I kinda left out Ferland anywho
  5. Dude's a maniac. Love this kid already! Hoglander - Horvat - Virtanen Baertschi - Gaudette - Leivo Roussel - Beagle - Motte/MacEwen I'd enjoy a bottom-3 lines looking about like this, as early as next season. Lots of youth, speed & attitude
  6. I appreciate Stecher's game/commitment..but I've always been a fan of a large, mobile defence core. I think our team receives more cheap shots than most(as DoPS don't seem to give a crap). Between Benn, Fantenburg, Ceci(& Utica depth), I bet our D would hold up okay. Perhaps Nikita returns, late-season? The Gud deal kinda blew up in JB's face. Pearson has somewhat compensated, but I feel we have LW depth that can probably maintain things. Next yr we'd be able to dump his 3.7 mill hit, by turning it into the talented question mark, of this Russian winger. Baer, Ferland, Roussel, LouiE & a guy like Mikheyev adds size with skill. I'd prob wait a wk or two, to ensure many of our other fwds had returned beforehand. But our LW side holds up, & next season we have almost 4,000,000 extra to allot to whomever deserves the $ Leafs don't have cap to pay this Mikheyev anyways(if his last 60 games were convincing), with 40 mill they've gambled on 4 fwds. Then they should ship out one of Kap/Johnsson & Barrie for 2 more D-men. They NEED turnover on that dreadful blueline. So this proposal could fit/make sense within that context.
  7. Bit of a rush this morn, so just gonna post these. Noticed that Habs(Snet) are banged up, just as they got rolling. Deal #1: Van: Schaller Habs: 2020 4th rounder. With guys returning, we need to create cap space. Although hosting next draft, Habs have a slew of 4th's ************************************************** & then...************************************************** Deal #2:Van: Stecher, Pearson.(maybe eat 300-500k of TS's hit, if necc?) Leafs: Ceci, Mikheyev Ceci might fare okay on the 3rd pairing. Punted in spring, at the end of season. Mikheyev is the intriguing piece, that I think could flourish(perhaps with Bo). Maybe Pod & Tree give us a Russki-3, somewheres down the line? Leafs could rush into a sell-low deal, out of desperation. Besides, they got plenty of 'O'..need some gritty character. I like Stecher, but with Hughes obvious presence, we need to surround the D with overall size/durability in the other 5.
  8. Wonder if we could deal a guy like Schaller to the Habs? They just lost Drouin & Byron for long spells.

    They've got lots of cap & 4(!) 4th rounders in 2020.

Be nice to create some cap room, as our injured return.

@Pears I'd be down for that too. Was skeptical(concussions & waiver clearance) of teams rolling dice..but you're right, they might now that he's played a number of wks.

Landing a 2nd(or perhaps 3rd?) would be pretty sweet for the books.

  9. & it was cool how much of an autobiographical style she'd write in. That's a great album. Blue..Court & Spark..but lately for me it's Hejira. A kind soul put all 51 mins on youtube, & it's been there for a number of yrs. Neil Young pops in for some harmonica(Furry Sings the Blues), & it's her famous collaboration beginning with Jaco Pastorious. There's a tribute tune for Amelia Earhart, which is one of the most unique numbers I've ever heard. The imagery is something only an accomplished painter could imagine. I doubt there's an album out there that's above this one, on lyrics alone.
  10. Absolutely agree. Her decade of work from the late 60's to late 70's(for me) was basically unparalleled. Songs/lyrics that just seem to never lose their power.
  11. Our beautiful Joni is an absolute gem, that I didn't appreciate enough in my youth. Used to love "This Flight Tonite" by Nazareth..we had their album in the home stack. I'd no idea until yrs later it was off her Blue album. Written by Joni Mitchell? Wow. She started folky, drifted into jazz & melding other experimental styles..until they mostly became defined as a Joni sound. If you study the lyrics throughout her LP "Hejira", the stories are so brilliant. The album often helps me connect back to the 70's(in spirit; nostalgia). This a person who'd produce the album, then paint the F***in' cover! Is there a better example of a true artist(in popular music)? I know this is a rock question..but folks get too wound up with categorization. & she Definitely contributed to the classic rock(especially Hippie era)
  12. Wouldn't swap all our 1st rounders, with anyone else's, from 2014-2019.

    Admittedly I don't perfectly remember anyones's list, & I imagine Edmonchuk(McD & Drai) are a pretty damn good option.

But for folks who lament the OJ selection, I believe this is the question they should answer. Since JB arrived, do you accept his work or not(on 1st rounders)? We shouldn't cherry pick select yrs.

Not his finest moment Newbie(the Gud, FLA part), but I don't think that deal will make/break us.

Ultimately kiboshing Kesler all had to play out.

    3. Art Vandelay

      Art Vandelay

It’s a difficult question to answer. McDavid trumps everyone combined for a franchise IMO. Money, competitive window and just overall. But I do believe Edmonton isn’t in a better position to win a cup over other teams who drafted high up in that time (Toronto, Buffalo, and Vancouver)

Yeah, his standard is up in the stratosphere..but it was a lucky lotto bounce.

Drai would have to acknowledged as a more clever selection(not as obvious)

  13. A sound often sort of fits the time/era. It's pretty rare to have phenomenal tunes, where the sound/lyrics don't eventually get dated. & then as people age, often their tastes change. I've also found a lot of tunes more interesting as you get the back story..how it evolved, what some lyrics refer to, etc... I respect a bloke like Knopfler. As a younger guy, he wrote so many great lyrics/riffs, with a youthful(yet observant) attitude. Now through a solo career of about 10-12 albums, his lyrics have become more folksy, thoughtful, & he's been willing to collaborate with a diverse group of sounds & musicians. Obviously he's no longer under financial pressure(produce dammit!..studio costs, etc...), so a guy like that can write amusing, insightful cultural commentary, at his private leisure. Hate's a strong word(as some posters noted)..esp for art. But some albums/tunes/artists age so much better than others.
  14. Late last season think I read he's missed 170 games over 4 yrs. Not his fault, but it's a PITA
  15. It takes time to properly outfit a deep 50 contracts(strong teams at both levels). It was decimated when JB took over. There was a drafting black hole from about 2007 - his hiring. Your Utica fanbase must've been aware of this. But I've enjoyed watching as he's improved the depth. Every yr nice pieces have been added. From a Vancouver fan's pov: I'm not sure there has ever been a period where we've methodically, gradually, been consistently adding depth(both pro & prospect) over a succession of yrs. It hasn't translated to success at the pro level yet, but excessive injuries haven't helped. At least we can have faith in the fact that different ranking sites have placed JB's prospects in the top-5, overall. As this wave of vets move on, lots of talented ELC youth will be inserted. So with regards to your question. I think you're asking the wrong one. If I were a fan living in Utica, every Oct I'd prob ask myself..Is this roster good enough to get to mid, or late-season, & be in the hunt?(PO spot; Div, Conf lead; whatever is realistic). Because at that level there are so many moves(turnover is accepted), that it's likely pointless to be overly fixated on one positional need. I'd love to see this franchise 8, 10 deep at EVERY position(maybe 6 deep in net?)..but it takes time & patience.
  16. Why reduce it to like/dislike..whomever? I don't know a single poster(personally) on these boards. Guy(over at HF) might be the proverbial salt-of-the-earth..who knows?! & I've never made an acct on that F***ing site, & never will, out of principle. But yrs of whining/insulting a team's Mgt group, after that franchise brought hockey back to your ville in the first freeken' place?! How many yrs ago did the Devs leave? How long was your barn empty? I can't remember..but it was a while, wasn't it? HAD Van drafted/signed hordes of C' & W's..a guy like that would prob be whining about the D, to the same flippin degree! I don't know mahn..if it's pleasurable Sunday reading to you(or anyone for that matter)..then do enjoy! Can only speak for myself, & that Utica Page/thread was(once upon a time) informative, for this fan of the parent club.
  17. I make witty remarks cos' the Missus wanted a cunning linguist?
  18. Was just gonna post..at what point do people start feeling sympathy for the COTU?! The paper bags & waffles arrive soon!
  19. Biggest problem is for the past 50 yrs every band has been trying to measure up with The Rutles(the pre-Fab 4). A tall order indeed
  20. Sens & TO trade ALL players/picks they have. all 50 contracts.

How much $$$ would Hogtown have to throw in?

    $300, 400 or 500,000,000.00?!(likely a Dr Evil type number)

Melnyk would prob get assassinated. Imagine Laffs ownership using their economic clout, to build a downtown rink in the capital?

Prob the only way the Leafs can get out of their miserable catastrophe..Anyways, be a nice BLOCKBUSTER!

  21. & when this team is officially back near the top(stocked with youth), & it's undeniable, them termites will sneak back into the woodwork. Prob change their online handle, & forget the horrible bores(boar, maybe more apt) they've been. edit: btw, you're prob right on how you've pegged that loser..doubt he watches, or would know what good hockey looks like
  22. It's over the top, with that clown. Nice appreciation towards the(any NHL team, don't matter) franchise, when you've been brought a squad, where their barn had been empty(no AHL team) for yrs. That HF page poisons the well, for both the Canucks & Comets. Ringleaders over there seem intent on such purpose.
  23. Ottawa's in a much better situation(going fwd) compared with TO. Over the next several seasons, the Leafs will lose many Ontario fans, likely to other sports.
  24. Dumba$$ should walk first. As if his folks bought him(young chef) a pricey downtown restaurant location, & he started serving up sh*t sandwiches. Apocalyptic.
  25. Trade proposal: Ottawa: all 50 contracts & all their(enviable list of) picks. TML: all 50 contracts & all their picks. + 400,000,000 $$$ **********************Seriously, makes sense, Sens & cents************************** Ottawa could use 75% to build a downtown arena, & 25% to send Melnyk off to(some tropical isle) retirement Fleas IMMEDIATELY fire Dubas, & complete a proper rebuild. Question: How's the value? Should the Laffs keep one extra 2nd rounder?
