  1. & a lovely hippy bravely held up a flower to a bullying soldier!(some iconic photo, from late 60's protests) To quote Chris Hedges: "I don't fight fascists because I'll win. I fight fascists because they're fascists!" Long live Roger(his great competitive spirit) & every player who's fought hard & honestly in Canuck gear! I'll accept them losing with honour & dignity, before I'd long for a Cup like the dirty Broon-goons grabbed in 2011! WHEN we win(Hockey Gawds willin') we'll do it with style, determination & class!
  2. Don't claim to know myself..accepting/understanding there are much bigger questions worth pondering. For example, some countries get bombed/obliterated, then watch narratives(mostly wh*re-media) being rewritten over the next decades, as they vainly search for answers to deaths of their loved ones. Even historical volumes purporting to lay out events, deserve a library 3rd section..some aisle between non-fic & fiction. Seems dishonesty is the grease to keep the spin going. For pro sport: If you have say, 30 separate entities, there might be 10 key markets you want to keep rolling(BOG buddies; key markets for TV; under table kickbacks; whatever reasons may apply) Then the (Nobel-worthy!)mathematician in me concludes you might also want 10 doormats, to balance. Lesser markets perhaps, where folks are happy just HAVing a team in the first place! Set up revenue-sharing, to further drain Cdn funds through their absolute-addiction! Assured various tax-zones will complicate matters even more, between haves & nots... Well, that could be a general framework. Tell a sports fan their religion's obsolete, then brace yerself for a frightening outburst! Always comes down to a basic question, imho..Do you TRUST something? Product, relationship, philosophy..Hell, damn-near anything requires trust & reliability.
  3. You think this league's run honestly? Congratz man..but I don't.
  4. -Or what if Burrows had run around like Kadri? -Look what happened to Naslund(as we were a rising force)? -Hell, go back to Messier/Bure inconsistencie(1994) boarding calls -Roger had to put a towel on a stick! -Rome gets Alcatraz; Boychuk a back-slap? -The ****ing Auger crap..eh, MacLean, you lowlife? -As mentioned, Hanzal takes out all our C's, in the key part of mid-season How can ANY sane, rational, reasonable human point fingers at Canuck's fan mistrust of this league?
  5. You could ask the same rhetorical questions regarding the lying, wh*ring media, in general, on the realm of politics, biz, environment, etc... Because you cannot perceive reasons/motivations behind dishonesty and/or corruption, doesn't preclude it's existence.
  6. It P***es me off to the brink of lost sanity. I don't mind the wins or losses of sport, at all. But when you feel a major sport(to which a lot of us dedicate serious time, hopes & rubles) is rigging a deck, it's really a dirty deal. I HATED the Isles/Coilers..but at least back then(up 'til the end of Zeigler's tenure, approx), you felt all teams had equal opportunity to reach the summit..Cdn/US, didn't matter. We'll probably never see those days again.
  7. I've seen the league do this to us before. We build a tougher roster, then they start calling everything. That Torts yr, was the most blatant reff-cheating & rigging that I've ever witnessed in the game. Just disgraceful. Weren't they giving us SEVEN MINUTE 2 man-disadvantages??? Around Dec/Jan 2014, we'd assembled some nice size/grit in our depth: Lain, Arch, Sestito, Alberts. Look what happened soon afterwards. Then after our toughness was injured/rendered toothless, Hanzal ran around taking out all our centers. Wouldn't surprise me if the league allowed him a sherwood with F***ing rebar inside! No wonder Torts soon lost it. Even the wh*re-media was getting digs in, whining about Sestito, when I'd never heard them ever complain about any enforcer playing in the 'privileged' US markets. & if we had a soft team..guess what? Whistles get tossed. Opponents realizing this, start to run our guys over. It's bloody dangerous, & injuries can easily result. Plays like Kadri on Daniel, if you lack a nuclear-deterent. Even DPS sends mixed-messages with unfathomably inconsistent rulings. I won't go down THIS jungle path..too long, but certainly part of this fiasco. ************************************************************************************************************************* How do you beat 2 rulebooks? I'd made a thread coupla' yrs back(Lacking Team-Toughness) that took off to 30,40 pages, where we all mostly agreed we needed more. So of course I'm really glad JB addressed this deficiency. But I'll add, I think our tough guys need to be INSANEly-disciplined in how they play. The goalposts will likely sway like branches in a typhoon. Keep an eye on this inconsistency, folks. The first game is an ominous indicator.
  8. So happy to see Canucks hockey back again! My expectations are tempered, but W/L/or draw, it's the drug of choice. So many posters bickering about what constitutes a "good fan". Prob best to try & determine/establish that yourself, then hopefully(!) adhere to it. (GL!) Things I really like: - We're FINALLY down near the bottom teams, in terms of overall team cap-expenditure(this gives GM's more flexibility/options) as seasons play out - Whenever the injury bug bites, we've got so many interesting, dynamic options, that most here will be enthused to see(their relative progress, etc...) - We can truly view this as a 'development yr', without the heavy backpack of contender-expectations - So many individual skaters(& our 'tenders) are motivated to improve upon past performance - Should we fall back, hosting the next draft is nice consolation(especially when drafting another great young stud, near the top) Lastly, the media treat our org like shyte. MSM mostly make me wanna spew at the best of times, & sports journos are on the same slippery slope. F*** 'em..let's relish the role of underdogs, as our young collection tries to fight the odds. Enjoy the season everyone! GCG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :^)
  9. Wouldn't mind some games with this lineup at all.
  10. 800 games: Don't the NHLPA have some pension clause attached to this milestone? Think I heard Gags is at 770? Wonder if he cares about it?
  11. Yeah, that's a good move. Thanks for the memories, Gags.
  12. Hopefully stays here(dominating) for next two decades! Great job EP!!!
  13. Sure looks likely after preseason. Our cast appears to be standing in the Colloseum, like that famous Gladiator scene. "Any of you guys battled in the army before?" Wonder how many of the kids will be ready to contribute(significantly) by next season?
  14. Like this kid. Hope we can keep him, & his health holds up.
  15. Green's gang gives gangrene!
  16. Typhoons, quakes & tsunamis!

Btw, did you see the tsunami footage of them poor people in Indonesia? It reminded me of the 2011 disaster.

      smithers joe

no i didn't hear about it. i'll look into it, thanks.

  17. Seems there's a certain ingred missing, this camp?..something that might come in handy? What could it be?
  18. That's a bold call, with how preseason's going. The div is looking tough too. I bought you a beer for blind faith!
  19. *evaluating, & honestly assessing* *worrying, ruminating/obsessing, & chewing one's fingernails off* ...so what do YOU do? From starting this thread(about a yr back), I tried to take a somewhat lighter look at an upcoming hard slog. Of course more travails were in store, but I wanted to suggest a good portion(a progressing %, with each passing game!) of the 're-thing' was already in the rear view. To put it simply, if one doesn't enjoy observing the process of their fav team building anew, perhaps they've chosen the wrong hobby? There are too many serious issues in the world today. So I choose to see it as an interest; not an all-encompassing obsession. Another observation is that sports-fandom can overwhelm people, when too many other aspects of their lives are outa' kilter. For many, can be a 'drug of choice' when the rest of life doesn't serve up quite the desired rush. Well paid sporting stars likely don't care much if a large portion of their proceeds trickle up from the desperate fantasies of neurotic, under-satisfied junkies! :^)
  20. It's a reasonable suggestion, & sure don't mind if you've hit the nail on the head! :^)
  21. "Kamikaze" is really takin' 1 for the team! Nuthin ninja-stealthy here..it's simply one more mighty rough yr, I'm afraid...
  22. As Uncle Freddy used to tell us: "Eat every carrot & pea on yer plate!"
  23. Megna & Chaput on ice!
