  1. That one is too obvious.... it would have to be what is the worst trade not including the Neely trade. It would be fun to look back at a few of these as well though.
  2. There are several up there that changed an era of Canucks hockey but I chose the Sedin trade because to me this has had and will have the longest lasting legacy in Vancouver. The Sedins are still part of the team as we speak and will remain ingrained int his community for the foreseeable future. Of course the Luongo trade, Courtnall and friends, Moginly, Getting Bertuzzi, etc all had huge impacts and were good trades when the dust settled out but thhe Sedin trade was the one that set this frnachise up for a generation of great hockey. If I had to pick a runner up it would be the Courtnall, Momesso, Ronning trade because this spelled the beginning of the Pat Quinn era which was the beginning of respectability for this franchise. The Canucks finally started to be a winning team after that trade and Patty brought in the pieces to to it.
  3. I'm going with Ohlund.... he logged the hardest minutes of any player on this list and shut down a lot of the best players in the game while being physical and getting points. He was a pretty solid package.
  4. Gotta say I get a bit envious when I see other teams signing their free agents to long term deals.......
  5. Ya, we get a bit excited about our shiny new toys but unless Rathbone really does something special and everyone else really stinks it up I see no point in rushing him to the V. Canucks. The left side is full of puck movers and PP specialists so a full year in the AHL would be a big benefit to this youngster right now.
  6. This is a great thread.... I like the concept, I'm game..... I'd like to see; Garland become the up and coming Dragon Slayer and be a clutch goal scorer and instant fan favorite. Poolman becoming Willie Mitchel 2.0 Horvat becoming a 70 point man once he can become an offensive threat instead of having to be the shut down guy all the time. Petey break out and I mean really break out big time Demko in the Vezina conversation BigMac put the fear of God in Nurse and all the other thugs in the Pacific division Myers get real mean sometimes Brock get his mojo back A Canuck Calder - who will it be? Podzy or Rathbone? Top 5 PP!!!
  7. Interesting note on the Bieksa 2OT winner. The HNIC crew missed the play entirely and thought it hit the mesh but the radio team with Shorthouse called it perfectly. Shorty saw it all the way.
  8. Greg Adams! Greg Adams!.... the Canucks are going to the Stanley Cup final!!!!!!!! Lots of good choices here that's for sure. Slaying the dragon is equal imo but both of these are great.
  9. I honestly hope for Jake's sake that this is what it takes for him to grow up and to not let his talent go to waste.
  10. I'll go with Connor's speed. It is pretty impressive how McD can blow by guys and every play is a scoring chance. Unlike OV's shot, McDavid can do it all on his own. I think MacKinnon is very similar but McDavid is the better choice. Going with speed because I know how much Bure terrorized opposing players as a Canuck so I am equating Bure's speed to that of McDavid because I wanted to bring a Canuck into this I guess...
  11. This is great but I hope Bergivin stays away from Vancouvers RFAs if he chooses to not match. Albeit he may end up.helping the Canucks.
  12. Prediction: Swedish Gretzky gets more dollars and years than the Dutch Gretzky ever did
  13. I could see a hockey trade with Rathbone. We like our shiny new toys but you have to trade an asset to gain an asset and this team has two elite LHD puck moving defensemen already and Rathbone is beckoning to be added to that list as well. If you could flip him for a true number one RHD or even a number two RHD it is probably in improvement to this team all in all.
  14. Who says plus minus is a worthless stat, certainly not Mark Howe. Hall of famer is one of the best defensive/offensive defensemen ever. Forget all the other figure skaters like Amonte, Madonna, Leetch and Roenick. Joking of course... these guys were great. Howe was a really great player and maybe one of the truly most under rated players of all time playing under his fathers shadow.
  15. Ditto for me, I think Pavel was everything OV is with speed t burn.
  16. I agree, I have found that a lot with this author. I mean of course the Canucks need to change their style, they don't want to keep being a lottery team every year. I think that the author missed the fact that the Canucks are often hemmed into their own zone for what seems like minutes at a time. When they do regain possession then they need to change lines which necessitates a dump and chase to allow for a change on the fly to occur. If they can get better in their own zone then they can be a better all around zone entry team and control the neutral zone.
  17. His contract was the poster boy for cap floor circumvention, seemed like it was traded several times while he worked for the NHL yet no one was ever penalized for this.
  18. Tony Tanti for me, he was the guy in the late eighties and was a lot of fun to watch every night. Tanti didn't just score, he was a majician. The team was pretty dismal back then but beteen Tony scoring really incredible goals and character guys like Garth, Steamer and Tiger grinding guys out they made things fun to watch. Nothing against Rusty but his prime ended prior to becoming a Canuck.
  19. Again with the reading comprehension.... I didn't say he was a superstar, I said he will be one, I believe this because he has all of the makings to become one. Sure your proposals are decent but imo they would be considered selling low in a few years. Petey is a getting stronger and smarter and like many young players he is learning how to avoid the rough areas of the ice to stay healthier.
  20. We want players to be honest and provide non boiler plate responses to questions ans then what do we do? We misquote them, read between the lines and takes things out of context and blow it way out of proportion. Give me a break. This is a non-starter, Petey will be a super star for the Canucks and threads like this will become more embarrasing than the Burrows do we need him thread.
  21. Miller - Pettersson - Boeser ---> this line likely to be pretty much the same throughout the season Pearson - Horvat - Garland ---> One of Hogz/Podz will supplant Pearson on this line but Pearson gets the nod to start the season. Podkolzin - Dickinson - Hoglander ---> Podz/Hogz will gets chances in top 6 but will round out their games with Dickinson. Motte - Sutter - Highmore ---> Highmore and Bigmac interchange but the starting nod goes to Highmore for penalty killing. BigMac OEL - Myers ---> Big money boys expected to shoulder the load. Hughes - Poolman ---> Expect a Willie Michellish season from Poolman allowing Hughes to roam OJ. - Hamonic ---> OJ over Rathbone to start at least. Schenn/Hunt ---> A chance that the 'nucks try to slip Hunt to the AHL to start but he hasn't played there for years so this is unlikely. Demko - Halak ---> No surprises here I hope. Not a bad lineup but I get the feeling that GMJB is not done yet........
