[DEBATE] Which #7 in their prime are you taking?
GB5 replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Bourque was a more complete player than Coffey and the pp was amazing with him Qing it. Great player all around. This is tough though because there are great ayers on the list that I haven't seen play. From all accounts Tom Horton was an amazing player but hard for me to vote for a player I haven't seen. -
It seems this thread has become a bit of a war zone for certain posters to go on rants about what their.opinion is on the local media while slinging insults around like candy to well minded cdc'ers. Mods on long weekend maybe?

[Report] Canucks promote Todd Harvey to director of amateur scouting
GB5 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
This is kind of a low blow if you ask me. Harvey is 46 now and no charges were laid. Despite that he paid dearly through his reputation at the time, same as Jake is doing now. Let the man on with his life already 25 years later. -
No offense and then you call me some kind of weird sorted insult I think? ok thanks... Like I said, no one in the media is perfect but Dhali does have sources that he works hard to maintain, he works the phones and connects with people which is much much more than pretty much any of the new generation of media folk that rely strictly on what they read on twitter and piggyback off of each other. Care to speculate as to why you think this or do you just want to leave it alone?

[DEBATE] Which #19 in their prime are you taking?
GB5 replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Pretty close between Sakic and Yzerman for me. Yzerman was in his prime was a legitimate superstar, no doubt about it. He could do it all. -
I truely appreciate the work that has gone into this. I think that moving Rathbone may be considered a bad move by many because he still has that shine of a brand new toy barely out of his packaging and hasn't fallen back to real life as an actual day to day NHl player yet and CDC does overvalue it's prospects but I agree that he is a trade chip that could be in play for the right return. The problem being that he may not be well known enough by a lot of teams. I wonder if Rathbone and Motte for Foote and Killorn is value enough for Tampa unless there are other dynamics at work here that I have missed.

This just doesn't seem like a trade that the Canucks need to make to get better. It may make them younger which is the only benefit but not better. I tend to shy away from moves that simpy reshuffle the deck as opposed to hockey trades where there is a clear need to make the trade for each team. Not to mention I think Tkachuk may mess with the team chemistry a bit, I know his family are friends witht he Hughes' but beyond that these types tend to take over a room and Messier all over it.
-
Certainly some will sensationlize vut in contrast there are others with legitimate sources that they work hard to keep in contact with. Dhaliwal seems to be one of the better ones if not he best in the Vancouver market at keeping his sources so if he says that he has been working to diffuse the fact that Schmidt has asked for a trade and has been unsuccessful to date I would consider him to be a trustworthy credible individual who works very hard at what he does and tries to keep a good name for himself.

Hope to see a healthy team next year. A full season from Petey and the gang would be huge.
-
Players and teams will always deny right up until a trade occurs. Pretty much scripted.
-
I guess I don;t know, the whole coaching situation is pretty unclear to mst but I think Shaw will help with the total team defense concept ir something ofthe like.
-
I keep thinking with Shaw in the coaching mix then we will see a whole new side of Schmidt this season. I just don;t think he was utilized to his strenths last season the same way Vegas was able to.

If Detroit likes paying millions of dollars to guys who do nothing I can send them my adress and maybe they send me a big check too.
-
Not to mention the drafting has been among the best ever for a Canucks management team.

Aging forwards can be protected a lot easier than aging defenseman. Forwards can be utilized better in specialized situations where their veteran prowess can shine through. You see that with Cory Perry, he is slow on his feet but makes plays and chips in in the right spots. In contrast a defender has to play a regular shift and will be exposed for their weaknesses. It is possible to shelter them but a lot harder and really why should you? When they get old and slow that is all they are..... old and slow. There have been exceptions like Chara but not many othets.

The friendly wager... Trudeau vs Biden
GB5 replied to DarthMelvin's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Trudeau weighing in on some heavyweight political topics right here. He needs to be careful when he goes off script like this. -
[Signing] Oilers re-sign Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
GB5 replied to drofssalg's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
8 years is a long tie for Nugkins. At least they get to hang on to one of their first overall picks for a few extra years. -
Maybe a tad bit of a lofty expectation. Lets see how he handles a full season first. Nothing against Rathbone but until the Cabucks get some more toughness to round out the roster and guys keep taking runs at the smaller defensemen then I hope I am wrong but Rathbone will need to learn how to absorb hits a lot better than what I have seen from him so far and that could result in him taking a different route to the puck slowing his offense a bit.

Different guys have different swagger on this team Bo is the the boss man captain and is in control of the team in this respect. Petey has the swagger for he has game. Miller has the swagger in confidence on and on it goes. Maybe the best all around goes to Podz for what little I know of him because he seems like he has a lot going for him and will take the team by the reigns.
