  1. I understand that you and other posters like to play devils advocate which is nice because it keeps this place at a medium instead of to high or too low. And any stat or anything can always be turned for example assists go up, could be from rebounds, could be trying to use his teammates better. If he scored 50+ goals then suddenly he's just to big and strong to play in juniors and his stats are suddenly compared to Sestito in his final OHL year for some reason (Elvis brought that up earlier) or even your rebuttle for his P/60 min being so high. I've only watched about 3 or 4 hitmen games + WJC this season, not enough to say anything for certain. Just like most people in this thread, potentially yourself. I saw Jake shooting less then a player with his caliber of shot usually would, and I saw him making a few beauty passes to start plays and not receive the biscuit back in a prime shooting position. He's played behind overagers which is hard for any younger player to surpass depth wise, especially while those overagers are producing like Tambellini has this season. I'm just excited to see what he'll do next year with a clean slate, just as you said you are. And I'm shaking my head at people mentioning trading this kid already for a 10-17th overall this year. Lucic, Horton, Stewart, Hartnel, E. Kane all these types of players have up and down years kind of notorious trait for power forwards. I believe this was just a one off year for Jake, due to multiple reasons. hope he proves me right next season.
  2. I agree with you consistency is his key issue, as it is for a lot of "power forward" type players early in their careers. I don't believe its his hockey IQ that's holding him back, while its not his strongest asset compared to his physical attributes. His assist rate was up this season, and having to play in a few different roles on different lines, and playing those roles still rather effectively has probably helped him understand the game better. Quality coaching, and quality teammates that enjoy teaching younger players will really benefit Jake in the long run hopefully Green can work with him this season, and some of the vets can help him in camp. I'm very excited to see what he'll do next year with a larger role, and more responsibility. Add to that a full off season of training the ceiling is still high for him.
  3. I don't quite agree that it's skill that Jake needs to show, but rather consistency, you don't score 40+ in the WHL as a 17 year old without skill. I don't want to say it was all useage or because of the injury, but it defiantly seems like it was an off year for Jake. Yet he still managed to be PPG and make the world juniors, even as a role player. I'll reserve judgment for a few years on the kid, and still be pretty stoked to have a local, homegrown talent. Players like Virtanen, McCann, and Horvat are the players that win championships. Its no coincidence they've all played large roles on strong teams. Nylanders, and Ehlers may be fun to watch especially in juniors or in less physical leagues (SHL) but their success rate in the NHL is usually very hit and miss. As are all prospects really, but I like Jakes chances and think he'll be a fan favorite, whether its putting people into benches with a big hit, or people in the seats with a big goal.
  4. Elite teams have a good mix of all three, I won't say Jake is elite but he could still be a large part of an elite team. No reason to be down on the kid yet, it's amazing what changes in a year. Nobody was that big on Anthony Duclair, or Max Domi a year ago, this year their futures are bright.
  5. Unless Vancouver somehow plays longer then Utica, even then he probably wouldn't play.
  6. I kinda think Johnathen Toews is a pretty good compatible. Came in as a 19 year old, had I believe 54 points in 69 games? Or near. But was also recieveing more minutes and prime PP time for the Hawks while also playing with Patty Kane. Not saying Bo will be as Solid as Toews, but as far as playing style/compatible rookie seasons I'd say it all kinda lines up.
  7. And then peoples will find something else to rag on him about. Like how he's only producing against 16/17 years olds. So we'll get to read/argue about that for a year, looking forward to it!
  8. Can either statement really be an absolute? Seems like we should take solace in the fact he has a high p/60min. I'm just interested to watch Virtanen after a full summers training, wherever he plays. Because I believe he'll be good for the Canucks in the future. I trust JB to make the right decision on wherever he is next year.
  9. I thought I read somewhere that along with wearing a weighted vest, Jagr still uses the parachutes in his training as well. Gotta say that's commitment haha
  10. That was the general reaction from the rational section, which is say maybe 25% of CDC. Even that seems high. The rest were all why no Nichushkin!! Or fire Gillis!!
  11. I agree, I see him being the sandpaper to a very good first line one day. Like a David Backes. Give him 2 good wingers and you'll have a very solid first line. But that's only my opinion. He just does so many little things right that would complement a line that takes risks to generate offence.
  12. Doesn't mean they couldn't all spend a year playing together before moving to prime positions. Would also leave a line of Shinkaruk-McCann-Jensen/Kassian
  13. Gaunce-Horvat-Virtanen would be a big formidable line in a few years
  14. Kids definitely seemed motivated since the WJC ended. Hope he keeps it up, seems like Franchise goalie potential is written all over him.
  15. Lol alright then, you come across as an all knowing cynical douche who rips on people and has no problem calling them turds based on there opinions. So i made an ironic joke about how you miss spelled best into pest, which seems pretty fitting for you. There's been no news of a major injury but your "logic" tells you that's what is must have been, why not just wait for an actual report? instead of throwing up a hail Mary so you can try and rub it into some online message board users face if/when you may happen to be right. Its not even that I dislike, or don't agree with some of your opinions but the way you try and get em across, comes across a bit snarky.
  16. Is there any injuries that can ruin a pest hockey board poster?
  17. Ya'll know me still the same old G, but I been low key. Anyone else think of forget about dre when they started reading about forgetting Gaunce? Lol
  18. I enjoy my Da Vinci greatest investment ever
  19. We get it your names Hedman you like the swedes now would you just stop, and go blow Nylander (smoke) somewhere else. Virtanen had a good game, scored a great goal and is playing a specific role in an international tournament that's very important to Canadians. Can we stop with the Nylander will be a top line center, and Virtanen will be a top 6 winger at best crap. YOU DON'T KNOW THAT!!!! we have 4 good center prospects in Horvat, Mcann, Gaunce and Cassels. I have no concerns about having a "center to replace Henrik" when we have that much depth at the position already. And why would you expect a center not to be good defensively when he's younger just because he's good offensively, So you wanna teach the kid its okay to back check like Kessel or Ovechkin. As long as you score a point a game?
  20. This video makes me wonder how Sanguinetti would do on the big team haha. Gaunce definitely has an NHL caliber shot
  21. Yeah don't expect to much to change, but it is frustrating. Anyways, I could really see Connor using Bo for faceoffs and down low play since his hand will still not be 100%. Anyone who's broken a bone in a joint or extremity knows it takes several months sometimes years to actually feel normal. How strong is McDavid regularily in faceoffs anyways? I've never got to see him play. And faceoffs is the one part of his game you never really hear about.
  22. You know I respect your OPINION but you talk in to many certainties on this site.
  23. Petan will drop back to center more then likely. I'd bet my bottom dollar that we see a line of Fabbri-McDavid-Virtanen if that's what Bobby Mackenzie thinks. Guys usually spot on for the most part. I'd think the 3rd will end up being Ritchie-Petan-Dal Colle or something similar. Even if Virtanen ends up on the 3rd with Petan and Ritchie that could be a very effective line.
  24. Apparently Fabbri and Mcdavid have a history together so that probably plays into it. Bob Mac said something about it on tsn
