  1. Thing is, there is a lot of initial research on drugs and treatments that is done in university labs or is heavily subsidized. The notion that only private enterprise is the only way innovation happens is a farce.
  2. Pharmaceutical companies making profit in a system that is based on...PROFIT. Companies making profit is not an argument against the products they are selling. I think that if you go back in a few other threads, you would find that posters such as myself have pushed for healthcare ideas that reduce or take the profit out of healthcare. If you are trying to argue for strict regulation or even nationalization, I'm pretty sure there are people who have been supporting vaccines who would jump on board and others who would screech socialism. I think the point you are trying to make is probably better suited for a different thread.
  3. And older/immunocompromised. The few times I've seen age breakdowns, the partially vaccinated and vaccinated hospitalizations have median ages that are greater than the unvaccinated. Like this chart from BC data earlier this summer (June). In the anti-vaxx world, even one breakthrough case is evidence enough that the vax is crap so we shouldn't take it.
  4. School community. Like the 13 Miami-Dade staffers who died in the first weeks back to school this year from Covid and not from some delusional phenomena. https://www.npr.org/2021/09/08/1035157226/miami-covid-19-deaths-schools-district
  5. Submitted data earlier this month. FDA approval meeting is at the end of the month. Indications are that shots in arms should be before Christmas break. Children under 5 data is expected later this year. https://globalnews.ca/news/8275039/pfizer-covid-vaccine-canada-kids-5-to-11/ Pfizer asks Health Canada to approve COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 5-11
  6. If there ever was someone who deserves his Herman Cain Award, it's this guy. And he says that he did this on purpose. Article link Conservative anti-vaxx commentator Dennis Prager reveals he has COVID, claims he got it on purpose for 'natural immunity', and says he's been treating it with drugs including Regeneron, hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin Conservative pundit Dennis Prager said had COVID-19 and had contracted it on purpose by socializing and getting close to strangers Prager said that although his plan sounds 'bizarre' he did it in order to achieve 'natural immunity and be taken care of by therapeutics' Prager said he continues to take a variety of other remedies including Regeneron, zinc, azithromycin, hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin The Food & Drug Administration reports that neither hydroxychloroquine nor ivermectin is an effective treatment for COVID Although Prager appears convinced 'natural immunity' from the virus is better, the National Institutes of Health, say vaccines confer greater protection

  8. 100%. No jab by choice, no visit. 10. A whole lot of dirty pool going on in Florida, thanks Darth DeSantis. Some of the worst Covid data reporting in the US. But, both parties right? https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2021/10/17/for-105-days-covids-death-toll-in-florida-counties-went-missing/ For 105 days, COVID’s death toll in Florida counties went missing The state and federal government could have shared the death toll in each county with the public, but didn’t.
  11. Shouldn't be surprised that the segment of the population that tends to vote a certain way has people who think wamenzz should be at home with the childrinzz and the almighty Lord should be the word we follow so no cool music for you.
  12. Canada is still working on clarification that mixed doses will qualify as fully vaccinated. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/us-canada-border-november-8-1.6212093 U.S. to open border to fully vaccinated travellers starting Nov. 8 Those travelling by air will still be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test
  13. Last time I started feeling sick here in PG (Northern Health a month or so back), I called around 7 PM Sat. Got a call back the next morning for a 9:45 AM Sunday test. Had my result that evening. All because calling in sick is such a pain and I'd rather have a result.
  14. The most maddening thing. Ya, you can get "natural immunity" but it means you have to get infected by the virus first. You have to fight off the infection. You have to survive. For a percent or two, they won't. For upwards of 5% or more (BC's data has it just over 5%), they will require hospitalization. If some reports are to be believed, up to a third will have persistent symptoms (long-Covid) for which we really haven't figured out what the complete long-term impacts to people's health are going to be. The people who parrot the "natural immunity" talking point don't know enough, don't care enough, or both. To them, this is better than getting a shot, then a month later getting a second, then maybe 6 months later getting a third. Nope, risking their long-term health or even their life at a much much much getter percentage is best. /s
  15. https://globalnews.ca/news/8260353/bc-covid-19-event-capacity-limits/?utm_source=GlobalBC&utm_medium=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR3D93dVva9RI9eymGZY8LkWRn8EvB0Nl-iY7cgOex7WurshPt6gIf3f-E4 B.C. to decide on COVID-19 event capacity changes by end of this week The province will decide by the end of this week whether it intends to change the capacity limits for organized events held during the COVID-19 pandemic. British Columbia is one of the last provinces in Canada with guest number restrictions in place for events like weddings, hockey games, concerts, and theatre performances. Those rules are now under review, said Dr. Bonnie Henry, as the deadline for requiring proof of double vaccination at events approaches. “Our intent was always, when the full vaccine card came into effect, that we would be able to go 100 per cent capacity and take away some of the other restrictions we have around some events, like dancing and remaining seated,” said Dr. Henry, the provincial health officer, in a Tuesday press briefing. She said officials are examining the epidemiological situation in parts of the province where this might not be in effect. “The situation in the north comes to mind,” she said. “We will be making a decision about that by the end of this week.” Beginning Oct. 24, provincial health orders mandate that event organizers must obtain vaccine card proof of double vaccination, and deny entry to those who can’t produce it. Those rules remain in effect for the length of an event, such as a multi-day sporting tournament. Right now, a maximum of 50 people, or 50 per cent of a venue’s capacity, can attend organized indoor “seated events.” Indoor fairs and trade shows in which guests are walking and browsing can be held at 100 per cent venue capacity. Organized outdoor seated gatherings can be held with a maximum of 5,000 people or up to 50 per cent of a venue’s capacity, while walk-through fairs and festivals can use 100 per cent of venue capacity. As it stands, vaccine cards are required to enter indoor ticketed sporting events with more than 50 people, and indoor concerts, theatre, dance and symphony events with more than 50 people.
  16. Another piece about the origins. I kinda like the summation about the two "sides". The lab leakers tend to be more interested in biosecurity, transparency, and human hubris. They exhibit an admirable drive to follow the money, to upend centralized power, to overturn academic hierarchy, and to expose the injustices of oppressive governments. Some are China hawks. By and large, they have not done virus-hunting field or lab work. On the natural-origin side, most people have done the kind of field and lab work that the W.I.V. pursued—and are regularly bowled over by nature’s endless diversity. They believe in scientific precedent, as opposed to uncertainties that have yet to be resolved. Many people in this camp have devoted their careers to conservation, biodiversity, and public health, and have been warning about a future pandemic for years. Spillovers most often happen because of land-use change, or human encroachment into previously wild places, which is happening on pretty much the entire planet, but particularly in areas that are developing rapidly, like south China and southeast Asia. https://www.newyorker.com/science/elements/the-mysterious-case-of-the-covid-19-lab-leak-theory The Mysterious Case of the COVID-19 Lab-Leak Theory Did the virus spring from nature or from human error?

  18. When people who don't have Covid-19 are having their health care impacted because the overwhelming majority of Covid-19 patients in hospital are unvaccinated by choice, I have no sympathy. You can find my sympathy for the unvaccinated by choice between $&!# and syphilis. I'm also extremely frustrated with the defeatist mentality that this should be the new normal. We haven't gotten to a place where we can even say that herd immunity won't work, won't happen. 95% or more and then we can talk.
  19. Got another one. One of the owners posted to the Facebook group “BC Businesses against Health Pass”. I think health officers should do a deep dive into that page and target every business owner who signed on or posted to the group. I wouldn't be surprised if the owners of the Hope restaurant were part of the group as well. https://globalnews.ca/news/8256326/kelowna-restaurant-shut-down/ Kelowna restaurant shut down for not verifying proof of vaccination: Interior Health
  20. TRUMP had covid, and the treatments he received have actually been approved. Hydroxychloroquine was shown to be trash, and Ivermectin has yet to be demonstrated as an effective treatment in clinical trials (trials are ongoing). I did see that there is a risk. Thing is, it isn't something that is common. It is rare. In this study from the New England Journal of Medicine (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2110737 ), like 54 cases in 2.5 million vaccinated members. Most were mild or moderate in severity. That kind of thing won't show up in any clinical trial, even the large ones used for the vaccines. And guess what, myocarditis is something you can definitely get from Covid. The Oilers have two players out with it after getting Covid. https://www.si.com/hockey/news/oilers-forward-josh-archibald-out-indefinitely-with-myocarditis . As for the quack thing, 4petesake validated my point. Quacks persist giving unproven medications outside of clinical trials. Quack persist in giving trash advice. Quacks can be called Dr., or did you miss the demon semen lady?
  21. Nowhere in that online petition is vaccines mentioned. Furthermore, it reads like something a quack who was pushing hydroxychloroquine and is pushing ivermectin would write. Real scientists and health care professionals will look to actual clinical trials before recommending a treatment. It's only in the clinical trials that someone would get an unproven treatment as a trial participant. The vaccines had clinical trials and have been approved. There are treatments like the TRUMP cocktail drugs that have been approved. If the clinical trial for ivermectin shows it works, then great. Also, some online petition. Lol.
  22. I just took it from the CBC article. The link is in my post.
