Nothing like the 100,000 or so at the MCG, but there is something to be said to rotating the final kinda like how we do the Grey Cup.

It's been crazy watching the yo yo of having crowds and not having crowds at AFL matches. The Grand Final coming up in a few weeks.

I've been taking to asking what is the plan if this vaccination policy shouldn't happen. There are 3 choices: 1) Do nothing. Clearly not a moral and just plan. Does nothing to reduce hospitalizations and deaths if the majority of those are unvaccinated. 2) Chinese style lockdown. Clearly nobody wants that. 3) Do something. If not the planned vaccination policy, then what? I have yet to get a response that answers this query.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/joe-rogan-contracts-covid-19-treated-himself-with-horse-dewormer-1235007061/ Joe Rogan Says He Tested Positive for COVID-19, Takes Unproven Horse Dewormer Ivermectin has been falsely touted by some anti-vaxxers as an alternative to getting vaccinated. Joe Rogan on Wednesday posted a video to social media in which he revealed that he has COVID-19. The comic and popular podcast host said he took Ivermectin, a dewormer meant for horses that the CDC says is “not authorized or approved by FDA for prevention or treatment of COVID-19.” The Spotify podcast host has made headlines during the pandemic for sowing doubt about vaccines. In April, Rogan walked back comments he made on his show when he said young, healthy people could skip the jab. On Wednesday, Rogan told his Instagram audience he had COVID-19 and would have to rearrange his stand-up schedule. “I got back from the road Saturday night feeling very weary. I had a headache. I felt just run down,” he said, adding his symptoms progressed throughout the evening. The next day, he tested positive for COVID-19. “So we threw the kitchen sink at it, all kinds of meds,” Rogan said, specifying he took a Z-Pac, prednisolone and ivermectin, which is a drug used to treat parasitic worms in horses. Ivermectin has been falsely touted by some anti-vaxxers as an alternative to getting a COVID-19 jab. The New York Times reported on Aug. 30 that ivermectin has “repeatedly failed in clinical trials to help people infected with the coronavirus.” Rogan noted he is feeling better. “Here we are on Wednesday, and I feel great,” he said. “I really only had one bad day. Today I feel good, I actually feel pretty &^@#ing good.” Rogan did not mention if he had been vaccinated but did say in the Instagram post, “A wonderful, heartfelt thank you to modern medicine for pulling me out of this so quickly and easily.” Spotify did not immediately return a request for comment on Rogan’s Ivermectin note.

My guess is NHL teams will run into this issue as well.

If this is the case, then the only people who should be getting it for treatment of Covid-19 are those individuals participating in clinical trials. Anyone else should wait. And everyone who can should get vaccinated in order to reduce the number of people who would need treatment. Ounce of prevention = vaccine Pound of cure = treatments. Again, until the clinical trials are completed, the effectiveness is purely anecdotal. Advocating for its use outside of the clinical trials is actually against accepted science.

Vax is good because the data is validating that assessment. If something is shown to be effective from a clinical perspective, then it will be utilized. Show us a clinical study that demonstrates Invermectin is an effective treatment for Covid-19. It is foolhardy to start medicating people without some clinical trials. It would be like putting vaccines in arms of the general public without conducting phase 2/3 trials. Even with those trials, there were many in the Invermectin crowd who were claiming the vaccines weren't tested. That is the difference. You are dead wrong.

Should probably went like New York and their Excelsior Pass. They have been using it for months now. Turns your covid vaccination status into a QR code https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/excelsior-pass

For sure. There are numerous vaccines that require multiple doses/boosters. We haven't figured out this virus and we need to figure out the timing and number of doses to get a handle on this.

Part of the issues with the Russian vaccine have a lot to how it was rolled out and how the trial data was released. Hardly economic reasons. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01813-2 Mounting evidence suggests Sputnik COVID vaccine is safe and effective Russia’s vaccine is in use in nearly 70 nations, but its adoption has been slowed by controversies and questions over rare side effects, and it has yet to garner World Health Organization approval.

Thing is, your math is skewed in favour of the anti-vaxxer. Even skewing the data and vaccines are orders of magnitude safer and less deadly than getting COVID-19. You know, the step you have to take to get natural immunity. It's even worse if you use actual statistics like case fatality rate. The US CFR is 1.68%. That means that for every case if Covid-19 in the US there is 1.68% chance of death. So ya, it's even worse.

https://deadline.com/2021/08/ad-asner-dead-lou-grant-mary-tyler-moore-1234823859/ Ed Asner Dies: TV Icon Who Played Lou Grant Was 91 15VIEW ALL Ed Asner, legendary actor, activist and philanthropist, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, surrounded by family. He was 91. Asner, former president of the Screen Actors Guild, is best known for his role as Lou Grant on both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spinoff Lou Grant, pulling off the rare feat of playing the same character in both a comedy and a drama series. He is the most awarded male performer in Emmy history with seven wins — five of them for playing Grant, the irascible but loving newsman. He also received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2001. Asner’s long list of credits also include the movies Elf, one of several movies in which he played Santa Claus, and Pixar’s Oscar-winning Up, in which he voiced the lead, Carl Fredricksen. His most recent major roles included arcs on several Emmy-nominated comedy series on Netflix: Cobra Kai, playing Johnny Lawrence’s stepfather Sid Weinberg; Grace and Frankie; and Dead to Me. Born on November 15, 1929 in Kansas City, Asner started his acting career in theater and helped found the Playwrights Theatre Company in Chicago, a predecessor of The Second City. He landed his first Broadway role in the 1960 production of Face of a Hero alongside Jack Lemmon. Asner made his TV debut in 1957 on anthology Studio One. A string of guest-starring roles led to his casting as Grant in the acclaimed 1970 half-hour comedy series The Mary Tyler Moore Show. After the series ended In 1977, Asner’s character was given his own spinoff series, hourlong drama Lou Grant (1977–82). Additionally, Asner made appearances as Lou Grant on two other shows, Rhoda and Roseanne. Asner also was a series regular on Thunder Alley, The Bronx Zoo and Aaron Sorkin’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. He also delivered acclaimed performances on two hugely popular miniseries, Roots and Rich Man, Poor Man, which both earned him Emmy Awards. In addition to Up, Asner’s extensive voice-over résumé includes providing the voices for Joshua on Joshua and the Battle of Jericho (1986) for Hanna-Barbera, J. Jonah Jameson on the Spider-Man series (1994–98), Hoggish Greedly on Captain Planet and the Planeteers (1990–95), Roland Daggett on Batman: The Animated Series (1992–94), Ed Wuncler on The Boondocks (2005–14) and Granny Goodness in various animated DC series. In 2016, Asner took on the role of Holocaust survivor Milton Saltzman in Jeff Cohen’s play The Soap Myth in a reading at Lincoln Center’s Bruno Walter Theatre in New York. For the next three years, he did the play in cities across the U.S., until the tour was thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic. Asner served as president of SAG from 1981-85 after he emerged as a leader during the 1980 SAG strike. As SAG president, he opposed U.S. policy in Central America. A lifelong Democratic supporter, Asner’s decades of political activism also include his support for the efforts to free Mumia Abu-Jamal and the movement to establish single-payer health care program California One Care. The Ed Asner Family Center, launched in 2017 by Asner’s son, Matt Asner, and daughter-in-law Navah Paskowitz Asner, provides counseling services, support groups, enrichment programs and camps to special needs individuals and their families.

A good chunk of those people are: It's no big deal. I feel ok. My immune system works. I won't get it for tinfoil hat reasons. No amount of being nice would convince these people. Yet, to get anywhere to herd immunity requires the majority of these people to get off their posteriors and get vaccinated. These people represent a significant number of potential deaths and hospitalizations. The majority of deaths and hospitalizations are unvaccinated. Vaccines reduce deaths and hospitalizations. So tell us, how are we supposed to get them vaccinated? How are we to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations that make it harder for people with real medical emergencies to get care? How do we prevent the horror show that is playing out down south? Doing nothing is not a valid plan. Doing Chinese style lockdowns isn't a valid plan. So what then? Tax unvaccinated hundreds a month? That might be the only other alternative.

Well, the population of Manitoba is 1.35 million. 176,000 / 1,350,000 * 100% = 13% So that 176,000 does represent a fairly significant percentage of their population does it not?
-
I guess those freedumb lovers will be limited to Alberta or Saskatchewan. I wonder how long those provinces will hold out if their neighbours get north of 90% with cases flatlining? More than 406,000 Manitobans have not been vaccinated, including nearly 230,000 children who are not eligible. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-covid-19-public-health-orders-update-1.6155621 Manitoba to limit restaurants, gyms, theatres, sporting events to fully vaccinated people After yanking some privileges attached to vaccine card, Manitoba imposing a stricter mandate than before

So even the Wall Sr. bankers are going to mandate vaccination. What was that again about the elites? https://www.reuters.com/business/goldman-sachs-mandate-covid-vaccine-staff-visitors-us-offices-memo-2021-08-24/ Goldman Sachs to mandate COVID vaccine for staff, visitors at U.S. offices -memo
