  2. What do people think was going to happen. 20 years with no clear objective or victory conditions. An enemy that wasn’t defeated. Nope, it would have been different if the US stayed longer. How much longer? The people complaining have no real answer.
  3. Man, it would be nice if the province actually followed this up with guidance. Good on the SFU biology department. https://bc.ctvnews.ca/sfu-biology-department-breaks-ranks-with-school-on-covid-19-protocols-1.5546933 SFU biology department breaks ranks with school on COVID-19 protocols
  4. A lot of businesses fall under provincial jurisdiction with regards to workplace policy. Justification would fall under workplace safety. Actual medical exemptions apply. Refusers can be given options. Like work from home, mask wearing/social distancing, working in a different capacity. Regular Covid testing. Man, it just sounds easier to take 30 minutes out of your day to get the jab, about a month later take another 30 minutes to get the second dose. Done. No more restrictions. Easy. https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/twitter-covid-vaccinations-canadian-workers-1.6140080 Several big companies exploring mandatory vaccination policies for Canadian staff. Twitter already has one Businesses can require workers to be inoculated, but there are exceptions: lawyers
  5. This is what full conspiracy turning brains to mush looks like.
  6. I was using the fictional character to illustrate the realities of the situation. There are Reds in our prison system right now. There are also David Milgaards as well. So no, they shouldn't lose all rights just because the murdered someone. And because they shouldn't, the monsters will try to take advantage. We just have to be intelligent about it to ensure that the monsters don't get out.
  7. The grey is where do we draw the line. Canada has decided that capital punishment isn't a thing, so we rely on incarceration. What about rehabilitation? Do we allow someone who is like the character Red from Shawshank Redemption a chance at getting out? Well, we did and there are people who push the envelope and make us question things. The people you listed take advantage of the system for their own kicks. I agree those people should never get out, but wherever we draw the line, there will be someone who pushes the envelope. For every Red, there will be someone who really shouldn't get out. See.
  8. Well, that research is underway. I would say that the "success" of the mRNA vaccines is such that a plug and play approach can get us boosters that deal with variants of concern rather quickly. https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/the-quest-for-a-universal-coronavirus-vaccine-68934
  9. Well, even Clifford Olson had parole hearings. Not saying it should happen, but there is always going to be cases that push the envelope. Life is a whole lot of grey and can be difficult to determine where the line should be drawn. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/serial-killer-clifford-olson-denied-parole-1.882733
  10. It will come. I think once Pfizer gets regular full FDA approval (Moderna will follow later), then Health Canada can follow suit. It will be much, much easier to implement. That is why the BC announcement had a deadline in October. Gives people time to get the jab, and time for the vaccines to get regular full approval.
  11. Even the unions involved are for the measure. Others, like the BC Nurses Union: "While some national medical organizations are pushing for the policy, the B.C. Nurses Union says it “strongly supports” vaccination for its members, but that it still believes “education and accurate information” is the best approach. The union adds that should the province bring in a mandatory vaccine order, its members should obey it." https://globalnews.ca/news/8107102/bc-mandatory-covid-vaccine-health-care-workers-unvaccinated/?utm_medium=Facebook&utm_source=GlobalBC&fbclid=IwAR0KEoRHRCq2ddfsUdx8j4Qv6vMX4830uvVRKRddQoZAVu2rzOKuyDj56Qc COVID-19 vaccines now mandatory for all B.C. long-term and assisted living staff
  12. The issue with Black people and low vaccination rates has largely to do with how they have been treated by the medical field. The Tuskegee experiment comes to mind here as well. About 8:20 in the racial bias in medicine is covered.
  13. Article compares the Pfizer (BNT162b2) and AstraZeneca (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19) vaccines against the Delta variant. As expected, the AstraZeneca vaccine was less effective than Pfizer. I imagine that Moderna should perform similarly to Pfizer, maybe better. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2108891?query=TOC&cid=NEJM eToc, August 12, 2021 DM210738_NEJM_Non_Subscriber&bid=580578392 Effectiveness of Covid-19 Vaccines against the B.1.617.2 (Delta) Variant Abstract BACKGROUND The B.1.617.2 (delta) variant of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), has contributed to a surge in cases in India and has now been detected across the globe, including a notable increase in cases in the United Kingdom. The effectiveness of the BNT162b2 and ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccines against this variant has been unclear. METHODS We used a test-negative case–control design to estimate the effectiveness of vaccination against symptomatic disease caused by the delta variant or the predominant strain (B.1.1.7, or alpha variant) over the period that the delta variant began circulating. Variants were identified with the use of sequencing and on the basis of the spike (S) gene status. Data on all symptomatic sequenced cases of Covid-19 in England were used to estimate the proportion of cases with either variant according to the patients’ vaccination status. RESULTS Effectiveness after one dose of vaccine (BNT162b2 or ChAdOx1 nCoV-19) was notably lower among persons with the delta variant (30.7%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 25.2 to 35.7) than among those with the alpha variant (48.7%; 95% CI, 45.5 to 51.7); the results were similar for both vaccines. With the BNT162b2 vaccine, the effectiveness of two doses was 93.7% (95% CI, 91.6 to 95.3) among persons with the alpha variant and 88.0% (95% CI, 85.3 to 90.1) among those with the delta variant. With the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine, the effectiveness of two doses was 74.5% (95% CI, 68.4 to 79.4) among persons with the alpha variant and 67.0% (95% CI, 61.3 to 71.8) among those with the delta variant. CONCLUSIONS Only modest differences in vaccine effectiveness were noted with the delta variant as compared with the alpha variant after the receipt of two vaccine doses. Absolute differences in vaccine effectiveness were more marked after the receipt of the first dose. This finding would support efforts to maximize vaccine uptake with two doses among vulnerable populations. (Funded by Public Health England.)
  14. And while we are at it, why not work at the provincial level to have a system so vaccination status can be easily checked for, I don't know, AHL and NHL games in the fall. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/vaccine-passport-1.6137763 Ottawa promises vaccine passport for international travel this fall Government working with other countries to recognize vaccination credentials
  15. BBUTT, What about the CHILDREN!!! This is from US national data. Just as kids are starting to go back to school in the US and Darth Santis in Florida and Abbott in Texas are going to war over mask mandates. Sad. https://www.krwg.org/post/nearly-94000-kids-got-covid-19-last-week-they-were-15-all-new-infections Nearly 94,000 Kids Got COVID-19 Last Week. They Were 15% Of All New Cases
