Lots of stuff to unpack from the survey. I'm kinda pleased that they found that 86% of people surveyed would get vaccinated if available, 3% were not sure and 3% were waiting. Compared to 8% who won't. This may mean that 90% inoculation could be possible. EDIT: Even the majority of Albertans agree with vaccine passports. Two-thirds of Canadians (67%) say that they support vaccine passports for large events in their province. Despite opposition from Premiers Doug Ford and Jason Kenney, a majority in Ontario (69%) and Alberta (52%) agree https://angusreid.org/covid-vaccine-passport-july-2021/ Half of vaccinated Canadians say they’re ‘unlikely’ to spend time around those who remain unvaccinated The vaccinated say it’s OK to ask about vaccination status, unvaccinated say it’s personal, not OK

The app accesses Health Gateway. I get a flu shot each year for the past few years and they are there as well.

Well, we saw that JT hopes to have a system regarding Canadians and their vaccination status (from last month). Hopefully https://toronto.citynews.ca/2021/06/18/canada-national-vaccine-passports-trudeau/ There is also a system in New York called the Excelsior Pass which has been used by numerous public events to check vaccination status and is going to be mirrored in a number of states. https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/excelsior-pass

The change will see China able to produce a billion doses domestically of BioNTech through Fosun Pharma. https://fortune.com/2021/07/16/china-mrna-vaccine-pfizer-biontech-fosun-doses/ 1.4 billion doses later, China is realizing it may need mRNA COVID vaccines

FREEDOM. Florida man gonna Florida. So the guy who QOP members are fawning over is now seeing this. https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/563402-white-house-florida-accounts-for-20-percent-of-all-new-covid-infections White House: Florida accounts for 20 percent of all new COVID-19 infections

Thought I would post this here as it kinda is Covid related. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-exemption-approved-will-return-toronto-july-30/ Blue Jays to come home July 30 after federal government grants exemption

Give it a week. We've only just opened things up (stuff like casinos, etc.) without mask requirements. We can sort of breath easier if we can make it to the end of the month without an uptick. Don't get me wrong, I really hope our cases stay down. I ain't relaxing until we get closer to 70 plus percent fully vaccinated and we have prolonged low cases. The fact that we have far too many people, some/many who are unvaccinated, who are celebrating like we've kicked this thing is troubling.

So next year, children under 12 will be able to receive the vaccines. By then, the vaccines should also receive full approval (post above). Plus, it will have passed the 1 year anniversary of adults in the general public receiving their first doses of the shots, and possibly their second dose. That means by the time kids under 12 can get the shot, we will have safety data for individuals exceeding 12 months. The whole "long term side effects" crowd will have their answer. People who still refuse next year are irrational morons. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/vaccines-kids-under-age-12-expected-mid-winter-fda-official-n1274057 Covid vaccines for kids under 12 expected midwinter, FDA official says After emergency use authorization, the agency hopes to move quickly to full approval.
-
So the IT'S EXPERIMENTAL crowd will have a few more months that they can trot out that talking point. By next year, it will be much, much easier to mandate vaccination. Sad that we will have to wait this long. https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/us-fda-decide-pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-approval-by-january-2022-2021-07-16/ U.S. FDA sets January target to decide on approval of Pfizer's COVID-19 shot
-
Hopefully in the coming months when the FDA gives full approval a few more people will be convinced to get them. I'd love to see us crack 90%. The higher the better.

Ya, I think that the people who believe in tinfoil hat conspiracy are not reading Nature or Science. So an article like this hasn't been on their screens. I think when your article has been cited more than a thousand times, you might have been onto something. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0820-9 The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2

Pfizer squared. Took longer to wait the 15 minutes after getting the shot than it took to go through and get my 2nd Pfizer dose. 2 weeks until chip fully online.

We're not the only jurisdiction reporting this. I've seen similar reports out of the US. https://globalnews.ca/news/7981772/covid-19-infections-death-unvaccinated/ Majority of COVID-19 infections, deaths now among unvaccinated people in Canada: Data

So not mandating masks/social distancing/vaccination means a bunch of employees get sick from the 'rona and a couple die. The only employee who got vaccinated doesn't get infected. The thing is that this happened in the IT department. https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/22/us/florida-manatee-county-coronavirus-outbreak/index.html A coronavirus outbreak hit a Florida government building. Two people are dead but a vaccinated employee wasn't infected
-
The adults I was referring to are the ones who actually cannot get vaccinated due to actual medical reasons. That number is very small. For the rest, I agree 100% with ya,
-
Infectious diseases don't just stop with you. If you become infected, then you can/will pass it on to others you come in contact with. As BCNeil said, these vaccines are not 100% effective so that could mean there is a chance of a vaccinated person also getting it. It's all about limiting the spread through the population. There are children and adults who cannot get vaccinated, so they are the ones who are need protection through herd immunity. The more people who get vaccinated, the better protected we become.

Getting my 2nd next week. Now, if we can get more of the fence sitters off of their posteriors. I have to post this classic for ole Ken.

I'll jump in. I think it has something to do with this. I've actually had someone bring this up in a debate I had with them a while back. I brought up how the Catholic Church and others had said it was OK. That didn't end well. (Covid: Vatican says coronavirus vaccines 'morally acceptable') https://abcnews.go.com/Health/conservatives-confront-moral-dilemma-vaccines-treatments-derived-fetal/story?id=73664533 Conservatives confront moral dilemma of vaccines and treatments derived from fetal tissue cells Race against COVID-19 raises deep debate at the nexus of experiment, ethics.

46% won't. 29% probably won't. 65% of American adults have gotten at least 1 dose. If the remaining 35% who haven't gotten a shot follow the polling numbers, that means the absolute best that can be achieved is around 84%. The worst (if all the probably won't people don't) is around 74%. https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/559122-poll-46-percent-of-unvaccinated-say-they-will-definitely-not-get-vaccine Poll: 46 percent of unvaccinated say they will definitely not get vaccine
-
Yes. Once doses become more widespread and the vast majority have become fully vaccinated, then I can see vaccine mandates becoming more of a thing. It's only a matter of time before we get to that 70% fully vaccinated threshold. I'm getting my 2nd dose in a week.

Well, there it is. The Federal government is working on vaccine passports. This should also be worked on for large public events to check patrons vaccination status. And yes, the government should be working on a secure paper version. And work on publicizing the potential penalties for falsifying these documents for our anti-vaxxer friends. https://toronto.citynews.ca/2021/06/18/canada-national-vaccine-passports-trudeau/ National vaccine passports for international travel coming this fall: Trudeau Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed on Friday that the federal government is working with the provinces to develop a national vaccine passport for international travel that’s expected to be ready sometime this fall. Trudeau said while that plan is being developed, his government is working on a system involving the ArriveCan app that will be ready in the “coming weeks.” “We are working on two tracks in terms of proof of vaccination for Canadians who wish to travel,” Trudeau said. “In the initial phase we are going to be working with the ArriveCan app in ways that people can upload an image of their proof of vaccination … so that border agents on their return to Canada can verify that they are fully vaccinated. That’s something we will have in place in the coming weeks.” By the fall, Trudeau said he hoped to “establish a national certification of vaccination status.” The prime minister said the national vaccine passport “will be easily accepted around the world for people who need to travel internationally.” He also said the government is working with other countries on ensuring travellers who receive vaccines not approved in arriving countries are still able to safely enter. “Having to demonstrate that you have been vaccinated has been a standard piece of international travel since international aviation began,” said Mike McNaney, president of the National Airlines Council of Canada, in an interview. “We’ve been quite supportive of the government coming up with a policy and a mechanism on how it’s going to capture that data.” There are yet other issues that need to be addressed, Trudeau said, including what to do about children under 12 for whom vaccines have not been approved. He suggested children could be subject to a repeated testing regime after arrival because having a two-week quarantine away from vaccinated parents may not be possible. Trudeau didn’t say if a paper passport would be available, but earlier this week, the Canadian Snowbird Association raised concerns with the prospect of a digital passport, saying up to 10 per cent of snowbirds travel without mobile devices. On Friday, the federal government announced that it was extending its border restrictions on non-essential international travel for another month. The extended restrictions will include travel between Canada and the United States. The previous order was set to expire on June 21, it will now expire on July 21.

Probably not as it costs time and money to do that and they don't have any contracts to distribute their vaccines in the US. They'd also be up against established competition. I think that this policy that they (New York) were using needs to allow for some process for these other vaccines to be allowed. New York relies on tourism and the chances are very high that there will be tourists from regions where they could only get one of those vaccines. Seems like they would be shooting themselves in the foot while trying to revive their tourism industry.
