  1. Management would go from the most hated in franchise history to possibly most loved if they just trade Miller in the offseason and sign Bo. Imagine the reuniting.
  2. Hague would be nice but they'd want Schenn back to replace his minutes which is fair. Not sure how their LTIR would work but I think there's certainly a Boeser + Schenn for Hague deal possible.
  3. Zadorov has been one of their best defencemen, I knew he would be and really wanted us to sign him for 4M instead of Mikheyev in the off-season. Without sounding too dramatic, I think one little move like that would have had a MASSIVE impact on our team - a big physical strong defenceman who can play either side, solidify our defence, play with Hughes and dare I say if we had one more top-4 D-man and one less winger, we'd be a playoff team. But anyway, Calgary locked him and smartly so. Tanev's out injured now, Zadorov has been solid for them. I doubt they trade him, but they'd certainly want some scoring because Kadri and Huberdeau just aren't gelling well. I doubt Boeser is a Sutter-type player but I'm sure if Calgary continue to stink, Sutter's gone in the off-season anyway. I think this is an easy trade, they have 5.5M worth of Lucic who expires this off-season who's not doing much anymore, and they do have around 1.5M in cap space. We could easily do a Boeser for Lucic + 2nd round pick trade. That being said, their bottom pairing defencemen are quite weak. If we throw them Schenn, I think that 2nd becomes a first easily. It'd be a solid 15th overall-ish pick, but obviously a big price to pay. If they really wanted I'd retain 1M on Boeser for that. TO CGY: Boeser (1m retained) + Schenn TO VAN: Lucic + 1st Would hurt to lose these guys, but taking on bad cap for a first is what we have to do to properly rebuild...I mean retool...
  4. With 2.4M dead cap coming off the books, I'd be happy to spend around that much on retaining. Bo's is just until the end of the season so doesn't really count - this year is dead anyway. Boeser has a long deal, not sure we want to be retainin 2M for the rest of it, but I'd be alright with 1M. Myers is the interesting one and the guy we should try and move the most. 6M is far too much but I'd retain 2M on him for 2 years. Then any team would want him. I look at a desperate team like Washington who want to keep their cup window open. They have almost all of their players contracts expiring next year. They have some old dead-beat contracts there. TO VAN: Mantha + Eller TO WSH: Boeser + Myers We could retain 1-2M of Myers' money if we need to. Mantha and Boeser need a switch badly. Eller's deal expires next year and we let him walk. That extra cap space we make (around 4-5M) we could sign a UFA defenceman to replace Myers (Mayfied? Severson? Graves?).
  5. Hard to say if all these assists are because of his good hockey IQ (which I think he has for sure) or just a result of the higher octane offence of the team and current league. 9 goals is pretty sad though considering so many players are banging them in like nothing, and his offence has dropped off over the years. That being said, he's still young and as long as he has the raw potential, he could just explode one year. The cap is the big problem. He deserves around 5M max. One-way slow winger who doesn't even score much anymore, you could argue that's 3rd line material worth Pearson money almost, but he's scoring at a 50-60 point pace. If Garland's on a 5M deal and scores a tiny bit less, Beauvillier's on a 4.1M deal and scores a touch less than him, Boeser probably does deserve around 5-6M. It's all because of his QO that he's on a silly 6.6M deal. Realistically across the rest of the Canucks and league, he's probably worth 5-5.5M max. We need to trade him, I'm one of his biggest fans but this team needs a real over-haul and if Bo's been traded, Boeser should really go too. He needs a fresh start, the Canucks do too. I'm sure he'll explode on a new team as well, it'd be the shake-up he needs. He played lights-out after being a healthy scratch for once, imagine what a trade would do. The cap plays a big role too, personally we should be spending that on a defenceman rather than a winger right now. There's so many 1-for-1 deals out there. Dumba, Severson (if we add Schenn?), Mantha, Monahan to name a few. All those teams have been interested in Boeser as well. Their fans and GMs see the raw potential in him and you just know if he was playing in a NJD top-6 or alongside Kaprizov or even in Washington, or with the kids in MTL, he'd explode and hit his potential. All those players coming back aren't good, sounds like Dumba and even Severson aren't going to get re-signed so are basically UFAs (who we could re-sign on the cheap if they look good with us, or let walk and save the cap). Mantha is really struggling and a perfect Allvin-like project (eg. Bear). Monahan might snag MTL a 1st, but there were talks of this a while ago and now we're one Bo down, having a decent 2C lets Miller roam around on the wing.
  6. Hope Bo's not trying to convince Petey to get out of the tire fire in Vancouver... You see the Canucks often talking to past Canucks who are flourishing in LA (Stecher, Edler) or Calgary (Tanev, Marky etc.) and always wonder what they're talking about...
  7. Petey's a super-star, good to see him get some league-wide recognition. 3rd All star game and he's still so young, pretty impressive. Really hope he hits 100pts this season, you seem to get special attention after you drop 100.
  8. How is Wolanin not playing in the NHL. Had a massive training camp, 27 years old, been in and out of so many teams but has never looked slow or bad, just not amazing. Now he's having a Karlsson-like year in the AHL. We've got the AHL's best defenceman, and an NHL defence full of terrible guys playing like AHLers, how does he not get a call-up? What do you have to do? I hope Rick's paying attention and rewards him somehow. Even if he's just playing 3rd pairing minutes behind Hughes and OEL, Wolanin deserves a shot. It'd be so huge for him personally who's just played a total 70 NHL games. I know playing on a winning AHL team is nice (and maybe that's why they won't touch him), but playing against proper NHLers would be such a boost for him. I wonder though if Tocchet leaves all our good young players in Abby for the rest of the season and we just nose dive in the NHL, while hopefully going on a playoff run with Abby.
  9. Pretty average stat line, -1 with just 1 shot, how was he?
  10. Crazy to see Anaheim have 1 regulation win in over half the season, a -80 on the year and right now they're only 3rd worst in the standings and may not get a top-3 pick is insane. Imagine if they fall to 4th overall. Crazy to see how the odds work, if they finish 3rd last, they've got only a 30% chance of picking top-3, a 40% chance of picking 4th and a 30% chance of picking 5th. Adding one of Bedard, Fantilli or Carlsson to McTavish and Zegras would really suck for us in the Pacific for the next 10-15 years. Basically a top-3 pick in this draft gives you an elite top line center but those odds really drop off with the 3rd overall pick.
  11. Hope the coaches play Bo and Petey together just to stick it to the Canucks, or maybe with McDavid and he scores 5 goals.
  12. This is prime proof of how useless the +/- stat is. Miller plays risky, he sacrifices defence for scoring. Obviously it pays off a lot, and did last year when he was playing with Petey, but now it's not. He's a -14 this year. The eyeball test is much better, just look at how out of position he is on so many goals against, and how many stupid unnecessary turnovers have lead to goals against. You can score as much as you want but those goals against have been daggers and the reason we're so low in the standings. Look at Seattle, barely have a PPG player but they don't make Miller-like dumb plays defensively. The +/- also doesn't get affected by how crap we are on the PK. Some other stats are far more telling about his defensive game. Miller leads the team with giveaways at 33. Bo has 15. Miller's all up goals against/for including special teams is -2. Bo was +15. Horvat has a slightly better corsi % (51 to 50). Stats don't tell the whole tale, especially of defensive play. Bo is no Selke candidate but Miller is straight up bad.
  13. Schenn to Edmonton or Calgary would sting. I get trading him, he's a great piece, but apparently he wants to stay. What better a mentor for young kids coming up in the lineup than Schenn, especially on defence (once we acquire some young defencemen, that is)? If we have to trade him I hope it's to sweeten a trade involving Boeser, Miller or Garland so we don't have to retain.
  14. I absolutely would not condone it and if we lose Demko we're subjecting ourselves to 3-5 years of pure tanking rebuild. But for argument's sake, here's what a deal would probably look like: Demko to LAK for Quick + 1st + Spence They're not giving us Clarke, their first is currently a 22nd OA and Quick is just a cap dump. I'd almost argue that even that is a 2nd or 3rd round pick too little value. Anyway, I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do it if it was Clarke and a first. No one means more to a hockey team than their goalie. I know RDs are hard to come by but young solid goalies are moreso. Anyone can just sign a random UFA goalie but Demko single handedly held us in games the last 2 or 3 years. Then again, the way we've done Bruce and Bo dirty, it would make sense that this management throw their young saviour goalie in the trash too.
  15. I do like this idea of a couple of big changes on D. If Tryamkin is coming in at 2M or under we can afford to flip Myers with 50% retained. Myers to a contender for 3M is a pretty good deal, maybe snags us a 2nd or 3rd rounder. I'd be happy with Severson or any other UFA like even Mayfield. Myers out, Tryamkin and a guy like Severson/Mayfield in and suddenly that's a decent defence. Would never happen though
  16. Imagine if we signed him, we continued to lose and he convinces Podkolzin and Kuzmenko to hit it back to the KHL. But in all seriousness, we don't say no to a free physical young big RD. My only worry would be his quality in the faster NHL now. If it's between giving him or Bear 3-4M I'd give it to Bear right now. Wouldn't give Tryamkin anymore than a 1 year 2M show-me deal.
  17. Of course I don't agree to anything like this and want to keep Demko, but what would a trade look like? Demko + late pick (to even numbers) for Quick + 1st + RHD prospect (probably Spence or Grans). Sounds good, we'd get two decent defensive prospects out of it (assuming we take a D man with the pick), but that hole in net is much harder to fill.
  18. This just seems to be the cost of a 50ish point player. You almost seem to just automatically get 1M per 10 points in the league.
  19. Just that it was a highly rumoured deal for Miller last year and we turned it down. Imagine if we took it. Chytil wasn't great last year and there were rumblings... 3 great, relatively young centers down the middle, a decent future top 4 RD and a 1st. They spent their 1st last year in the Winnipeg trade so may have been a first this year which would be in the 22OA region. Imagine we draft a defenceman like Reinbacher with that pick and we have a great core of centers and 3 top young defencemen.
  20. He's 28 and while he looked good with us and skated well, this is a much faster league than when he was here before. I think some team will sign him, he's basically a freebie physical RD which everyone wants, but I doubt he'll be very good anymore.
  21. For argument's sake to get a few people riled up, which is the better team: Miller + Raty + Beauvillier + 1st Or Horvat + Chytil + Lundqvist + 1st
  22. You've got to wonder if we can snag another 1st or 2nd round pick by the TDL to really load up. I'm sure all of the main D-men will get snatched up, but imagine if we could snag two? I know we talk about BPA but there's enough variation in this 1st round that we could construct a mini-core immediately. Talk about a flash rebuild. With our 1st rounder, we pick one of Bedard (6%, so no chance), Fantilli/Carlsson (I think something like a 15% chance) or (much more likely) one of Smith, Yager, Dvorsky, or Benson. With NYI's pick (say in the 13-14th overall region) we may be the first team to take a defenceman, and hopefully we are. I think Reinbacher is who we want but he may drop a fair bit - not producing much offence, mixed reviews so far. Hopefully Allvin will talk to other teams and see who's scouting who to make the smart play to pick one of the more offensive defencemen - Dragiciev, Gulyayev or Sandin-Pellika. Then with another pick we acquire (hopefully through a Boeser/Miller trade) we snag our guy Reinbacher who hopefully falls to 20-35th overall. Suddenly we have a new core of Petey, Raty and our top-10 pick center all quite young. On defence we finally have a group to build around, with Hughes, Reinbacher and a PMD like Dragiciev. We've got enough wingers in our system already to complement these guys (Lekker, Podz, Hogz), no need to draft anymore with our top picks.
  23. Yep 100% agree, I know why they talk about BPA, and you have to do this to an extent (to build value in the club), but look at our team right now - tonnes of value, loads of skill, but very poorly put together and they play like crap. We have so many potential "all stars" (Petey, Miller, Bo, Hughes, Demko from last season) yet we suck. We have tonnes of BPAs on this roster, it's just so poorly constructed. Even with Raty, a center who can play well defensively would be nice with our top-10 pick, but there are some nice defencemen out there. As nice as a good two-way shutdown defenceman would be, I wouldn't be against any sort of defenceman with the NYI pick, as long as it's not another winger which is my big worry. Drafting wingers is fun, but at the end of the day it seems to be getting harder and harder to acquire solid defencemen. The Bo Horvat deal proved this - we should have been hunting for a top RD to play with Hughes but apparently that was impossible. If we're not trading for defencemen, we're not drafting defencemen then the only other route is UFA where they come over-priced and inflated (eg. Myers). Drafting and developing D-men seems to be the best way forward. I think Sandin-Pellika, Reinbacher, Gulyayev and Dragicevic could go anywhere. Some desperate team will surely snag SP after his WJC in the top 15 but the rest may fall a fair bit. Reinbacher is probably my favourite but honestly I'd be happy with any one of them. If there's some way we can sneak out of the TDL with another first, it'd be outrageous but drafting two of those defencemen would re-stock our prospect pool in a big way because I bet a lot of them fall into the 20-30th overall spot. With the top-10 pick, I'd say my rankings would go something like Bedard -> Carlsson -> Fantilli -> then Benson/Yager/Dvorsky/Smith. I know Michkov is doing well in even the KHL but what are we going to do with another scoring winger when we can't trade or acquire defencemen/decent centers? He may well be the next Kucherov/Kaprizov but I'd rather a less offensive center for this team to be honest.
  24. Surprised they didn't put Petey in the shootout competition, he drops Forsberg moves in regular season games like it's nothing anymore. Poor Luongo was never good at them, he's going to get lit up...
  25. I like the idea of a lot of them, I think we're getting too much value back for the Carolina trade but it depends on how teams view Miller. At 8M I almost see it as an achor/cap dump in the future. Their 1st is quite late so KK + 1st would be enough, or a 2nd round pick, but I doubt we get both. Their forwards could use some help and their top-4 defence is so solid, but their bottom pairing is a weak spot. I'd really like Morrow from there and with all these trades of forwards, we need some defencemen, so I'd tweak it: TO CAR: Miller + Schenn TO VAN: KK + Morrow + pick (2nd or 3rd?) Next year Staal and Stastny come off the books, plenty of room to keep Miller's 8M extension and re-sign Schenn to a cheap deal if they want and get rid of their bottom pairing guys like De Haan. As for Boeser to Boston, I doubt they'd want him. Any team we trade him to will need to send us cap back. If we're flipping Miller we'll need a center, but there's many options. Boeser 1-for-1 for Dumba, Monahan or Severson works. I think all those 3 players are around the same cap-wise, they're falling out with their teams and likely going to be traded or walk in free agency. They're all mini-projects which Allvin loves. We could go for Monahan and run Petey-Monahan-KK-Lazar down the middle next season...or we could prioritise defence for once in our existence and go for Dumba/Severson, see how they fare the last 20-30 games and re-sign them if they're decent. Whichever way we go, we sign a UFA to fill the other spot in the off-season. For example, say we do Boeser for Monahan and sign Mayfield for 4-5M in the off-season, we're suddenly ready to go: Mikheyev - Pettersson - Kuzmenko Garland - Monahan - Podkolzin Hoglander - KK - Aman Joshua - Lazar - Studnicka Hughes - Mayfield OEL - Bear Rathbone - Myers Dermott We let Raty and Morrow cook Big re-tool rather than a rebuild but keeps us competitive for next season. Take a big edge off our offence but get some strength down the middle again and a bit better defence.
