  1. Pretty bad deal, Barzal had one good PPG year then dipped. 9M for a 60pt player is rough. 8M for Miller isn't a load better. You know Bo is going to get paid a solid 8+m somewhere. Whether he dips back to 60pts or not is hard to say (although playing on a better team but less top scoring minutes and more of a shutdown role, you never know). If Petey hits 100pts this year, which he may well, then look-out. Pastrnak is going to get around 11.5M so then Petey deserves 9-10M easily.
  2. After acquiring and targeting Raty so hard, looks like we want to get a lot younger. Management's idea of a retool may be our idea of a rebuild in essence. Miller is pretty much 30 now and his contract really doesn't fit the bill. It would have if we were winning but we're not. Not sure who can afford him though, maybe teams who lost out on Bo? Detroit/Boston/NJD? Doubt any of these teams qre stupid enough though the way Lou was. Throw in Schenn and that's a great package, wonder if we can get a cap dump back and a 1st or 2nd?
  3. This is why I wonder why we didn't just trade him to Detroit and allow Stevie Y to discuss contract terms with him. Trading Bo to Detroit as a long-term player surely would have gotten us a lot more (I'd like to think Rasmussen + Wallinder + pick?) but maybe Yzerman's a lot wiser than that. Lou's a bit of a fool trading for just a rental/risk, doubt Yzerman is that dumb and again I doubt Yzerman would have given us a first but I'd prefer one of his drafted young players. Guess we'll never know but Detroit must have low-balled us. I think Bo will want to go to a winner though and Detroit and NYI are decent, but he deserves to be a on a contender. Problem is there's not many contenders who can offer him 8-9M. I wonder if Boston want to do a massive re-haul. They have to sign Pastrnak to a likely 5M raise, but then could let a lot of their older guys go. They could let around 13M in cap go so it is possible, but will then be very Toronto-like top heavy.
  4. NYI have a lot of cap space next season, but they have Barzal getting a 2M raise but Varlamov's 5M comes off the books and Parise's 750K. Mayfield probably walks but the rest of the team is solid, so there's around 3-4M to give Bo a raise. Barzal's on a 9M contract as pretty much a career 60pt player, I wonder if they offer Bo a similar amount. They'd have to do some squeezing cap-wise though.
  5. We were never going to lose the hottest trading chip in the NHL for nothing. There were so many teams gagging for him, we would have shifted him somewhere.
  6. Sad to hear Bo a bit upset that the Canucks traded him during the All star break when he was hoping they wouldn't and said something about "after this season you never know". Management are just pulling out all the stops to become the most classless in our history. First league-wide disrespect to a hockey great coach, now treat our captain like this. I get the trade, and I get it had to be done, but there was no need to do it before the All star game and make things awkward for him. You can really see how Allvin is quite conservative and scared, not a risk taker at all. He didn't want to risk it going later and later into the season because he doesn't have the kahunas to pull off a late trade deadline deal. Wonder if he was worried he'd get injured in the ASG...
  7. Got to think we use Schenn's great value to send Myers or Boeser packing and retain a bit on the latter. I'd be happy with 2M retained, we free up 2.4M in dead cap this off-season anyway. Trading just Schenn away for a 2nd or 3rd would be a waste, we should get creative and use him to offload some serious cap.
  8. Disappointing to hear that they really wanted a young center in return for Bo. I get that, but when asked Allvin said they prioritised that. No mention of defence coming back. Raty had a great post-draft season, then struggled a bit, now he's scoring at a 0.5PPG pace in the AHL as a 20 year old which is good but not great. He's a bit of a risky prospect, not a bonified future star by any means. I know NYI fans are upset they lost him but he may never pan out still. Allvin being cheeky talking about how they got 3 firsts for Bo. Um...Beauvillier was a cap dump, former 1st but realistically playing like a 2nd/3rd round pick. Raty was a 2nd round pick and it's not like he's scoring a PPG at the AHL level, he's still about that same, maybe 30-40 OA worthiness. The first round pick is a first but imagine if NYI bomb this year, it's protected and then they retool and that 1st becomes a late first next year (doubtful though). So really we got a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Bo.
  9. From the sounds of Allvin's presser they're giving it to Petey before the All star break is over. That's a tough job for Petey, he's sort of hidden behind the veterans for a while and just been able to focus on scoring which he's done a great job of. This media is harsh, I hope it doesn't affect his gameplay at all (a bit the way it did Luongo). I'd rather not have a captain for the rest of the year and decide in the off-season. We have nothing to win this year, no need for a captain really.
  10. Basically another Garland with a bit more size but worse hands? I think he's really a cap dump to get Bo to fit, wouldn't get too excited about Beauvillier. They've made him sound responsible defensively but doesn't have a great +/-, and he's on the PP and PK a fair bit though. Will be interesting to see what we have over the rest of the season, with Mikheyev injured he'll probably end up in our top-6. Allvin seems to love giving bad players on good teams a chance, not sure I like taking on all these projects as a charity club. Hasn't really worked for Studnicka or Stillman, you could say it's worked for Bear but again all these 3 players are healthy scratches on any playoff team.
  11. I think Gavrikov is gonna get PAID, maybe even in the 6M region by some silly team. 27, big strong LD playing massive minutes, not putting up much offence but he's somehow only a -7 or something on the worst team in the league. With NJD so stacked and Luke Hughes surely entering the league next year, I think Graves will be on the market and I'd take him at say 5M x 5-6 years. I think Gavrikov will cost 6M surely. NYI would be stupid to let Mayfield go, he is a bit older but a big strong veteran RD could be had for around 4M, hopefully we could snag him at 3 years. Severson's quite interesting and someone CDC have monitored for years, he's been very sloppy defensively but still playing big minutes in NJD for some reason. You'd think he'd fallen off their depth chart with Hamilton exploding and again they've got a succession plan in order to replace him, but he's still up at 25+ minutes a night. Currenly on a 4.1M cap hit, I wonder if we could snag him at a similar rate? Mayfield would provide more defensive stability though. We desperately need this free agency to re-shape our defence as management aren't doing it via trades. Either combo of a solid defensive D-man + two-way guy works for me. Graves/Gavrikov + Severson/Mayfield Expect to spend around 9-10M on that duo though. I think we'd have to look at trading Boeser (could do it straight up right now for Severson, or more interestingly, trade him to Dumba and then don't re-sign Dumba in the off-season but go after these guys) but an OEL buyout or Myers trade with retained cap has to be on the cards. If we can trade Myers to some fool like Toronto with 2M retained I'd rather do that than an OEL buyout. Here's what I'd try to re-shape this D: 1) Myers (50% retained) + Schenn + 2nd to Toronto for Kampf + Simmonds (cap dump) + 1st round pick - Toronto do this because they want defensive help and Myers at 3M is a bargain. Schenn is well wanted. Myers alone is worth a 2nd, Schenn is worth a 2nd, the two Toronto forwards are basically cap dumps plus we get a 3rd line center in Kampf. The difference between our 2nd and their 1st is only going to be about 10 places. This also allows Raty to cook a bit longer. 2) Trade Boeser to Minnesota for Dumba - Minny get their guy to help their offence, we get a serviceable Dumba for the rest of the season to replace Myer's minutes as a bit of a project which Allvin loves. If he plays well we can re-sign him but I doubt it, he'll most likely be walking into UFA. 3) Sign Graves 5x5M 4) Sign Severson or Mayfield to a 4-5M deal. Mikheyev - Pettersson - Kuzmenko Garland - Miller - Podkolzin Beauvilier - Kampf - Hoglander Joshua - Lazar - Studnicka Hughes - Mayfield Graves - Bear OEL - Dermott That lineup has a cap hit of 69M (plus say 6M for the goalies and 3M for the dead cap, a few mil here or there for the extra forwards/D) should fit nicely. I have no problems playing OEL as our 5th guy if it means we shift Myers and get two solid top-4 defencemen.
  12. I'd rather we trade away Boeser and his fat contract and maybe even Miller, then we're going to need at least a couple of wingers. Certainly can't keep them all though. Beauvilier is a decent two way winger but brings very little offence, far too expensive at 4.1M. If we can negotiate his next contract down to a Pearson-like 3M I'd keep him as a 3rd line PK/PP specialist winger for sure but we can't be hanging on to all of these wingers. I'd be intrigued to see how he performs on a more free-flowing offensive team (although maybe not now with Rick), maybe he'll bust out. I'd rather trade our current wingers to be honest. Sounds like Allvin is going for PKing forwards who play well defensively which I admire (like Raty, Mikheyev etc.), but we've got two of the worst defensive forwards in the league in Miller and Boeser so they're the ones who need moving.
  13. Allvin did well in his press conference I have to say but got fairly easy questions. Surprised no one asked him about Miller at all. Sounds like we'll see Podz and Hogs called up and most likely they'll pick a captain in the next few days and it'll be Petey.
  14. I could play on our D and be in the top 4 and I'm from Australia. Means nothing. Bear doesn't crack a single playoff team's lineup. I'm still waiting for that top 4 defenceman...been over a year and counting now...
  15. Pretty sick of management trying on all these projects but I think Beauvelier is more of a camp dump to get Bo to fit. I would have preferred even Cizikas and we retain 50% of Bo but he plays a big roll for them whereas Beau is as useless as Garland. As good as Raty looks, he himself is a bit of a project too.
  16. The retained cap is much of a muchness just to get him to fit this year, but it does make things trickier if we want to retain on Boeser or Myer trades.
  17. I don't see them catching Buffalo or Pittsburgh at all, even with Bo. Desperate JB-like move by Lou and if they miss the playoffs he should be fired. NYI are 3 games above .500 and the last wildcard spot team are 8 above .500, that's quite a gap. Sure, plenty of time, but they just don't have enough quality on that team and defensive depth IMO.
  18. I don't think Bo was the reason for the problem of the culture but changes need to be made and they certainly can't stop here. We need about another 2 roster moves minimum to change this culture.
  19. Any way we can add Schenn to Boeser to get another 1st? Then suddenly we're cooking. Boeser is surely worth a high 2nd, Schenn worth a mid to late 2nd. Do two 2nds make a late 1st (on a good team?). NJD probably don't need Schenn but Boeser + Schenn + 2nd for Dumba + 1st makes a lot of sense (if Dumba's mainly a cap dump).
  20. Unreal we turned that down. Could have done this Bo deal and ended up with a real stack, sucked even harder this year and had a top-3 pick in this year's draft too.
  21. Would love to know what the other packages were. I bet Boston were dangling Lysell and a 1st - no thanks. Detroit surely had Rasmussen in there but I think Stevie Y is too smart to part with a mid round first in a deep draft so probably was going to give us a 2nd or other prospect. Not sure what Seattle or Carolina have to offer but the late firsts aren't very tempting, although they all have better center prospects than Raty. The first rounder must have been the deciding factor in this trade.
  22. Shame they got rid of conditional picks for re-signing otherwise this should be another 1st or 2nd coming our way. Always a risky game to play with rentals, as we found out with Toffoli. I really hope Bo just signs with a winner and honestly the Isles are a mess of a team. They lack a true star (until maaaybe now), their defence looks good on paper but is actually quite a mess but they have a good young goalie. Otherwise they're quite an old team playing fringe playoff hockey. I just don't see them busting into the playoffs to be honest. It'd really hurt if Bo signs a long term deal with NYI before the season ends, they miss the playoffs and then they struggle to make the playoffs the next few years. Hope he keeps his wits about him and only signs with a winner at the end of the year. The number he gets will be very interesting though...
