  1. Yep the irony is great, maybe they just learned their lesson after Miller? There was absolutely no need to sign him after a career 99pt year - he still had one year left on his deal, why not wait? I said many times, they'd be much better off waiting another 40 games to see if Miller could keep up with his 2ppg scoring down the stretch. I don't need to be an analytic hockey guy to know that Miller isn't going to have another 100pt season, and rightly so he fell right off as expected. Management must have been scared that he would and that he would have out-priced them (asking for say 10-11M then if he had back to back 100pt years). What were the chances of that happening to a guy who's been a career 60-70pt scorer?
  2. Watch management sign him up to a 3 x 6M deal, fail to move Boeser or Garland, lose Bo and end up starting next season with an almost identical defence to right now. I love Kuz, but we can't just keep throwing our cap at wingers. Someone's got to move for a defenceman. Sadly it might be Bo but then we have a huge hole at center.
  3. If we're not contending for the playoffs (hard to say because last offseason we made a heck of a push), the best move would be to trade both Miller and Bo. Neither really fits with Petey and Hughes' time frames. We could get two firsts and 2-3 good young players/prospects for the two centers to build a new young core around. If that means, Chytil + Lundqvist + 1st for Miller and I don't know, a 1st and Wallinder for Bo, that's a pretty good start. With all that cap space, we take on some bad contracts for prospects/1sts too. Not a rebuild though...just a quick, flash retool
  4. 2 on 2 would be nuts, puck moving defencemen would thrive. Imagine Petey and Hughes out there together, both can defend and both can score, one of the leagues better duos.
  5. Bo for Borgan + Geekie + 2nd would fit management's bill but be kinda crap unless they give us a 1st instead.
  6. Would take Bennett or ideally Reinhart for Rathbone, but then we'd really need to stack up some defenders. Bo could get us a 3C and young D, but if we go Rathbone for Bennett then surely Bo nabs us a solid defenceman, defensive prospect +/- pick. Florida have so many strong centers they can afford to let Bennett go, especially with Lundell due some more minutes.
  7. Look at those defensive pairings compared to ours. Quality and physicality across the board. They're a big, veteran team, lost a bit of speed and skill though which we have loads of. Their D and Vasy is going to shut is down so easily but I think we still score 3. Problem is, we won't be able to stop their PP and Stammer will probably get a hat trick. 6-3 Tampa
  8. 3x6m, nothing more. Play him without superstar Petey and see what happens. Hate to see his contract talks progressing while Bo's was short and sweet. Yet again, we lock up money in a winger and lose a center. As it stands, we're going into next season with 1 decent center in Petey. Miller is currently not a center so doesn't count. Then there's Aman, Studnicka, Lazar and Dries. Almost 4 AHLers (Stud and Lazar were pretty much Boston's 5th and 6th centers for this year).
  9. What sort of compensation do we get if he leaves, something like 3 or 4 firsts? I know it'd suck but I tell ya what if we want to go full rebuild, that's how you kick things off. Jokes aside, he isn't going anywhere, retool or rebuild coming up, it'll revolve around Petey's timeline
  10. I know he was overpaid but you can hardly say that organisation has made many bad decisions (hockey-wise), they've basically been a contender since 2011, pretty much every year, and this year yet again have a historically good year. Can't say anyone on their roster is playing poorly.
  11. Sweetener, the main deal is around Peeke. Fits what this team needs, a young big strong physical shutdown RD and a young center. Could go after Kuraly instead but I'd like Roslovic for our 3rd line center. Then to replace Bo at 2C we either force Miller to play there orrr I'd rather we trade Boeser for Monahan, then Miller for Severson and try and ship Myers out (throw away a pick if need be from a Schenn deal or use Pearson money to buy him out). Team gets younger, stronger physically and fits under the cap well. Mikheyev - Petey - Kuzmenko Garland - Monahan - Podkolzin Pearson(?) - Roslovic - Hoglander Joshua - Lazar - Lockwood Hughes - Peeke OEL - Severson Dermott - Bear Rathbone
  12. Would be massive if we could get him over here by say next season. Then would like to see him as a 20 year old in the AHL but don't expect him to crack the NHL roster for a while, probably not until he's 21+. Some first rounders bust onto the scene, especially wingers, but with his injuries and Swedish roots I think it's best we're patient with him. Would be nice if we could tie all our prospects in together so hopefully this coming year draft someone who may be a bit more NHL ready so they can bust into the NHL alongside Lekker and Podz.
  13. Your colour commentator needs to bring some banter, especially when paired with Shorthouse who is IMO the best in the book of commentating the game accurately and as objectively as possible and is almost robotic-like. You need a cheery colour commentator to lighten things up and break that strict mould that Shorty brings, which is why Cheech works well. I really liked Larscheid back in the day, I know he was controversial and probably aged out of the modern era, but his quips were brilliant and he came up with some of the best slogans. Watching Luongo make glove saves with Larscheid in the cockpit was a real experience. I remember when Garrett started and he knew he had big shoes to fill, but has struck the balance perfectly - he takes some of the personality of Larscheid without the harshness, takes an edge off it and makes it more palatable. We are spoilt, John and John are by far the best in the business.
  14. Everyone wanted Maurice and look what a bad job he's done in Florida, now we want another guy like Tocchet? Canucks management focusing on the wrong areas here, a coaching change will do nothing. If anything, we want a coach who is used to developing young guys, not someone who's never coached in the minor leagues and then just has an average .500 NHL career with Arizona... I'd rather just stick it out with BB until we fix our roster.
  15. Bit worried about Tocchet, we were all looking at Maurice as the perfect fit and look how bad a job he's done in Florida - sure there's been changes/injuries but a team of that quality shouldn't be .500 and outside the playoff race. Maurice has flipped that team on it's head and everyone wanted him here over BB.
  16. Major surgery - Bo for Roslovic and Peeke, Boeser for Monahan, Millet for Severson, coaching change in the offseason, lets go. This year is toast just focus on getting a good 1st rounder.
  17. I said when they arrived that I'd wait to see how they fix our main problems: 1 - sign or deal Miller and Bo 2 - resign Petey and Hughes and Brock 3 - get a solid 3C (not had one since Sutter) 4 - fix our defence, really need two top 4 guys and shift Myers out, or just get at the bare minimum one top 4 guy 5 - get some cap flexibility Petey and Hughes were locked up and Brock got his deal, a conservative move. We do IMO the worst move possible by giving Miller 8M and handcuffing the team. Management preach they want more cap flexibility but spend 8M on Miller and another 5M out of NOWHERE on yet another unnecessary winger when we already have Brock and Garland and a freebie in Kuzmenko. Mik looks good, sure, but this was quietly the dumbest move we could have made, when meanwhile our 3C is played by AHLers and our defence is full of 7th defencemen of other teams. Management tried mid season to fix this by acquiring Stillman and getting rid of Dickinson and also spent a good pick which has turned into a DREADFUL trade that doesn't get as much heat as it deserves. They're swinging for the fences trading for young, relatively bad defencemen and hoping they stick but this is a risk you don't want to take by spending a 2nd round pick. They get the Bear trade right though luckily but he's still not exactly a solid top-4 defenceman, he was Carolina's 7th guy and only looks good with us playing with Hughes and he has zero competition. For me right now they have failed big time. Instead of what they did, they should have signed a 3C (there were plenty out there who were signed during UFA quite cheaply) such as Janmark, Jarnkrok, Tierney, Rodrigues. They shouldn't have signed Miller right after a massive production year, they were forced to by media and their agent. Smart move would have been to just wait until this TDL and see if he could replicate his 99pt season which (obviously) he hasn't done yet. Could have resigned him cheaper, could have traded him to keep Bo or could even just let him walk - all better options than the Loui-like 8M megadeal he got. Finally, where is this defensive fix? The main reason we're losing games is our PK sucks and our bottom 4 defencemen are terrible. We needed a shutdown guy, I know management preach getting young guys but they aren't that easy. Even if we had signed a 30+ year old 20+ minute defenceman in the offseason or used one of our many wingers to trade for one, we'd be so much stronger now. There was so much buzz around a Marino trade with all the Pittsburgh/Brock links, I thought it was bound to happen, then he goes to NJD, solidifies their D and no surprise They're one of the best teams in the league. Quite frankly, not only did they not get the jobs done that they needed to but they dug themselves further into the problems already left for them. Big fail for me, just not good enough.
  18. CBJ are really tanking hard just like us, for a team which is built to win now. You don't sign Gaudreau expect to be 2nd last in the league. I wonder if we take advantage of their desperation. Peeke and Kuraly/Roslovic would fill management's young RD and center needs but that 1st is mighty tempting. I doubt CBJ would trade it - they might get Bedard and there's their 1st line center in an instant (or if not Bedard, Fantilli or Carlsson will probably be first line material in 1 seasons time) but could we possibly do something like Bo + our 1st for Peeke + their 1st? We get our RD and (very) young center, they get their top line center plus a very decent likely forward in the 5-8 spot. Plus our chances of landing Bedard go up? I doubt we'll see teams trade firsts this year but...
  19. I worry the more public this gets, the less value we'll get back. Teams will know Bo will just walk anyway, trading for a pure rental may only get us a high first, or late first and prospect. I know CBJ want him, boy would their first for Bo be tasty (but obviously won't work cap wise and they'd be stupid to give it up). Bo + our 1st for Peeke + their 1st?
  20. Juicy, very useful to know but not good enough performance-wise so far. I know he had a tough job coming in but we've got too many stars in this lineup to be so bad. They hamper on about cap flexibility and then spend 8M on Miller and 5M on Mikheyev when they already had Brock, Garland and a freebie Kuzmenko come in this offseason. Neither signing was 100% necessary and now look where we are. As for the ownership comment, he has to say that regardless of the truth but I do, to a degree, believe it for now. The retool idea isn't necessarily FA's idea alone, a lot of managers like this over a hard rebuild because sometimes they don't work and you just suck forever (Arizona), whereas a retool may mean young players coming in playing alongside prime players learning how to win. Good on JR for coming through and saying it all but bottom line is we are a dreadful team in a messy state, some players past their prime, lots in their prime, not many young players, coaching drama, injury drama, players snapping at each other and possibly losing our captain. Mess of a team at the moment.
  21. Risky but may be very rewarding, who knows, if he ends up an 80-100pt scorer this will be such a steal. I don't think he has that much high end skill but good size and will likely be a career 60-80pt player, so 7M isn't horrible.
  22. I guess Rathbone and Hoglander might as well pack their bags then... Sadly I think Allvin will do whatever he's told, maybe there'll be a bit of fight with JR and FA but at the end of the day he's too old and will just clock out, leaving baby Allvin to just become FA's puppet
  23. If Miller could play decent defence and center, he's worth keeping. However he does neither. Lately he's scoring a bit more but he's still well under a PPG. If he was scoring at an 80-90 point pace I'd be happy too but he's closer to a 70 point pace one way poor defensive winger and despite his recent scoring, that's not good enough for 8M and our most expensive player. I'm sure there's somewhat of a market out there for him, even if it means we take some short term cap back, but I have a feeling management won't because it would admit a mistake on their behalf.
  24. McCann nets a hat trick and is on pace for around 45 goals this year. Another former Canuck who is flourishing, 26yo, former late first rounder, when a team finally gives him a shot he produces. Imagine where we'd be if we didn't throw away guys like McCann or Forsling.
  25. We'd probably need to add Schenn or Dermott but I'd do it. Think they really want Boeser and Ty is playing top 4 minutes already for them, plus they traded Marino for him so doubt they move him. POJ on the other hand just falls off the depth chart, bet we could nab him...
