  1. The thing about our species that’s special and amazing, is that someone says you can’t do something, and others say, “hold my beer”.
  2. It’s not even the distances. It’s the amount of energy it would require to travel those distances. We’re talking about needing the energy of a star just to propel a ‘ship’ manned or unmanned in order for that ship to get anywhere in a galactic span and then come back to the point of origin. Just thinking about harnessing the power of a star is amazing. Turning that into energy that’s useful for propulsion is far beyond our technological imagination. It would be akin to starting off with a stone wheel and then leaping to near light speed machinery.
  3. FTL is simply not feasible. Not without wormholes. Even then the amount of energy to create a singularity would require the energy of that which produced more than neutron stars. The energy to condense space-time is unfathomable considering we burn dead animals to produce most of our energy now. I mean it’s not even about producing the energy to achieve that speed, it’s about having anything man-made that could survive that amount of pressure. And even then, FTL wouldn’t allow us to get very far considering just how vast space is and how far most of our survivable galaxy is. We’re stuck for the moment in our neighborhood. However, there isn’t anything our species can’t do given time, education, trial and error, resources and most importantly the will and cooperation to do so.
  4. It’s amazing how far we’ve come at as a species in such short time. Then I remember just how regressive we can be. I hope our trend continues upward and outward.
  5. Percy’s hobbies are certainly out of this world.
  6. Follow ‘Percy’s’ Twitter exploits: https://mobile.twitter.com/nasapersevere
  7. Some new pics from yesterday. There’s going to be a huge dump of pics on Monday once all the data is processed. In the meantime: I’m really looking forward to the high res videos.
  8. I believe it and yet I can’t believe it.
  9. Live press conference and new images to be revealed by NASA.
  10. First image from Perseverance: More on the way, and they'll be in rich full colour HD.
  11. It's possible that life on Earth developed from Mars, via meteorites. By sending people to Mars, it's possible that we're just returning 'home'.
  12. Hoping for the best for your sis, Bree. Stay strong, stay positive.
  13. Assignment: Morgan Geekie to minors (No waivers) @canuck2xtreme
  14. Europa would be as far as we possibly go in my lifetime.
  15. I understand your concern. We may be expanding more/faster than we're socially evolving. Being violent, adversarial, and hatred is inherent in us. Without dealing with these ancient and yet ever-present social/individual vestiges, our future endeavors may always be endangered.
  16. It's just another inevitable step for humanity. We'll get there and beyond. It's in our DNA to explore.
  17. I was impressed with how much they got right about that movie, Damon aside. It was one of the better Mars movies that I can totally recall.
  18. Terraforming is a long long long ways away, and may not be within practical reach. Food will be produced in controlled atmospheric pods for the foreseeable future.
