Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
Goal:thecup replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
Hughes may not be able to play in the playoffs this season, let alone back then (or the 70's). In the Vegas bubble series, for lots of legitimate reasons, he was completely overwhelmed. Such a talent and such a brutal game once The Cup is on the line. I hope JB gets/keeps a stable of heavy wingers at the ready for the playoffs. (Theory being that if they're wingers, you don't go down a defenceman when taking penalties. And they're heavies; they don't have to know how to play defense.) Hughes is so good, and small, I think we have to protect him, and definitely create space for him. Make sure guys like Stone and Reeves don't get free runs at him when he's stuck in their headlights. -
Hey thanks Laddie, I got confused switching between this and the Podz thread and thought you were saying Podz couldn't make the team. Cheers!

God, I need a good hockey year! (discussion)
Goal:thecup replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Canucks Talk
It is already a good hockey year. We've got lots of new guys coming into town and camp coming up. Our top of the roster players constitute the best roster we have had in years. Podz is in town! I keep imagining him in different situations, like on the penalty kill with Bo. Or, with Miller and Petey and Brock on the power play. Last minute, down by one, Podz in front of the net battling, squirts the puck out front to: Bo Brock Petey Hugs Overtime! -
[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season
Goal:thecup replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I'm gonna go with: Sergachyov for Ollie; Patrick, since Philly has passed on him, for 'Lias; Bouchard for Hugs. (JB & Co always pick a different player than my guesses.) -
You have raised a very interesting topic imo, but I am tangenting (a word?) off on a couple different directions than the Luongo Was A Canuck League Punishment Deal. Like, if Kotkaniemi Leg Wrestler has agreed to something beyond the league's Offer Sheet, was it a written contract, an oral contract, or, as previously referred to as a nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean Monty Python kind of thing? Would both sides' legal teams be ok without a document? Might not even an oral agreement have to be logged with the league? Another one is somewhat related (of course) but if there is a side deal, what if JK decides not to sign for the extra years at their (implied) low value? Anyway, great contributions from you thanks.
-
I know what you mean. I just think Big Jim is going to lay down the law, keep Petey, and punish whoever forced his hand (and I look forward to that). On top of that, I don't think any offer sheet for 'Lias is going to be in the "4-1sts" category, so no problem; carry on. Can't wait to see the end of August.
-
I don't think the 4 firsts (2022,23,24,25) are enough to give up on Petey today. I'm of the opinion that GMJB will match any offer rather than waiting on years-away hopefuls, or trying to get enough value thru trading years-away picks.

[Proposal] Trade Capitals & Canucks
Goal:thecup replied to BigTramFan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Injuries are a given. That is why it is so important to have many players available at every position. Projected lineups should include 8 D, 15-17 F, 3-4 tendies. (+ some brawlers; I'm old school). JB & Co have assembled a strong new cast of outstanding young characters. Please. Let the games begin. Where are we now? 2 and a half weeks til camp? Who's in town? What's the buzz? Tell me what's a-happenin'. (Snide aside: The Answer: Edler, Louie, et al, I'll bet. As in, who in their right mind would sell a home in Vancouver in these times? The whole world wants one! Or more.) -

Plus, they're both 25 and Hathaway is 29 (just sayin'). -
Well, to put Bure in Canuck history per se, once we had Bure, we finally had the best (enter position here) in the history of the game (imo). Pav was the best right winger we ever had and imo, the best RW in the history of hockey. So for once and only once, (I exclude Luongo as we got him 'used',) we had the best (something) ever to play his position. So blah, blah, every other Canuck (which are all held dearly in my heart, except da turd who shall not be mentioned), Bure is, was, and always will be, the greatest Canuck player.
-
Blah, blah, blah, character, stats, community.. Bure hit the ice and everyone was on the edge of their seat; and then standing! Agree with above; not even close. Love Hank & Dank, & Trev and Steamer and Hair-Old, Darce, Marty Gelinas, i.e. every Canuck ever. But Bure was the best in the world, ever; endie storie.

The IOC is a big crooked scam and the Olympics are a great big cash cow. The games promote nationalism, not athleticism; and all the major countries are guilty of using the games to promote their own agendas. Nationalism is a major cause of war, not exactly conducive to sports-person-like behavior from the athletes nor the fans. Take the nations out of the Olympics, and make it about who is the best athlete. Period. No flag-waving crap. "Oh, Canada won more medals than Latvia. Yay. We so good." "Go Canada. Cah Nah Duh, Cah Nah Duh,.." Remember how we felt when a Jamaican racing as a Canadian won the 100m dash? And how quickly he was dumped after it was found that he used peds that weren't as cleverly hidden as Carl Lewis's were? The only Olympics I can watch any more is hockey, and that is an addiction I bear with some guilt. Also, I only watch and cheer for the teams with Nux prospects or players, which had me cheering for the Russians vs Canada due to Podz. Many years ago, I also cheered for the Russian Red Army Machine Team that came over and played Canadian teams, but only when they played Montreal, I severely dislike that team and especially detest their smarmy fans. But all that flag-waving, and when ever was ribbon waving a sport? What's next basket-weaving? "Only a Silver for Cah Nah Duh for that one Ron, those Tibetans can really bob and weave!" (Oh! Did I say Tibet? At the China Show? Oh! I'm done for now. Oh No! Oh Nooooooooo - ala Mr. Bill) Just a joke. An expensive, and often dangerous (see 1972 Munich Olympics) joke, that strips the athletes from their positions on the podium, and replaces them with corrupt politicians and corporate logos, held high as leaders of the best countries in the world, etc. .. give me a flutin' break.

[Signing] Kings sign Alexander Edler
Goal:thecup replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Eddie and Schmidtty both gone from the left side; not the 2 LHD I thought JB would scratch. Sure opens up room for Ollie and Jack though. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman
Goal:thecup replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It is free agency. Players get to choose between offers so contracts get bid higher. If ya wanna play, ya gotta pay. -
I was hoping he'd stay with us!

[Buyout] Canucks terminate Virtanen’s contract
Goal:thecup replied to Where's Wellwood's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The first, and now at least 7 more? Are there still more who have not yet come forward? Jake could be looking at jail time if all is true. -
Thanks. Looking forward to two years of good news from the QMJHL about this robust, raucous, and rambunctious rapscallion!

Did you read this all you media lurkers and trolls? -
Ok, I'm convinced; you're right, I was too excited and wanted him in A, so we could call him up sooner. Still rather have him over here than in the K. Sounds like we wouldn't have been able to move him to the A anyway, as he was 'drafted [by us, while] in the CHL'. Do we have to wait until he turns 20 before we can move him from the Q to the A? (enough frikckin letters!)

Now that Hank and Dank and now OEL are in the organization with Edler and Petey and Hogz, everyone is going to be more thoughtful, empathetic, and respectful, as they were taught to be back in Sweden. (I wish. CDC will continue to be a cesspool of idiot spew, with islands of 'good' posters that make it still the best place for Canucks news and discussions bar none.)
