  1. JB may have correctly anticipated that the top 4 D would be gone before the 9th pick and that made it easier to trade it. If so, his intel was further supported by the result that after the 8th, the next defenceman was not picked until the 25th pick. Regardless, this is a home-run trade imo, and now that we're not waiting out dead contracts, have good new players, we're a good and constantly improving team. However he does it, I hope he can strengthen the right side D, even if we keep Hamonic (which I hope we do). Another thing on my wish list is an enforcer; I know, it's a dinosaur concept; but a 13th winger (not a D as can't afford "D in the box') who can play (of course), but also, who can lay down the law when it gets real ugly out there. Gadjovich may be one, but he's a light heavyweight and I'm talking about a Reeve's level banger. Regardless of team toughness and every player having to be able to look after themselves, we have to have a deterrent to people running our top players. Review the last 2 year's playoffs for reference; it is still brutal out there and I would rather have the team that's dishing it out than taking it all the time. #GiveGreenerAShoulderToTap (Did I do that right? First time I've ever typed a hash tag thing.)
  2. This is what I'm talking about. Seems we have a very short window here to welcome him to Canada, the organization, and his fellow Canucks. Nip this KHL stuff in the bud. Now.
  3. This is a very good indicator of his character and desire to play pro hockey in North America. To me, he seems like a special pick, we should be able to adjust his development path accordingly, and not be subject to the whims of the KHL Masters or stuck in the Q playing against younger and mostly smaller players, which may slow his development. The young man wants to come, and we now have our farm right in Abby; get him over here where we can help him achieve his goals all day, every day. And, he gets paid; which is another positive for development when he's still so young and away from home; should help him 'grow up' and in Abby salaries are more reasonable compared to the NHL where the big money can sometimes overwhelm a teenager.
  4. 6' 2" almost 200 pounds at 18 Swedish RHD. Probably a good pick:
  5. We lost Tryamkin to the K. Podz had trouble getting ice time, coach's respect, etc. He's a big kid who likes to get physical (apparently), so ease him in and protect him, but get him into Abby (imo). No more BS.
  6. Agree. I am not crazy about losing Schmitty either. I look at defense a little different than most, I think, because I think we need 8 NHL-ready defenseman and possibly more as the season progresses and injuries, etc., pile up. So Nate at his natural (left) side is about tied with Hughes (in my opinion) as our top 2 LHD. Rathbone and Juolevi are the young guys kept with the big club, and Eagle and others can fill out the slate (and the AHL farm). So that gives 4 left-side D, all in their natural positions, and at a very reasonable cost. On the right side, we all know we need all the help we can get. I still like Hamonic and hope we can keep him; same with Myers. We need 2 more RDs, hopefully at least one of which is a #1, but two #2's would be good too. So, unless Nate truly does not want to play for us (even on his more "successful" side), them I am ok to accommodate him. Otherwise he is an effective and cost-controlled (therefore affordable) option that we do not have to give anything to get. Reinhart and these other expensive-to-acquire and expensive-to-employ players can just sit somewhere else and collect their earned pensions. About the only one I would make an exception for at this time may be Shea Webber. He may be disgruntled; and he may like to come play for the hometown team; I don't know, but he is still a heck of a good RHD. So I'm on the 'keep the 9th and 41st' train unless we get options to move up for an RHD, or down, and get someone at a lower pick that we would have taken at 9 anyway. And, I just love seeing a new Canuck and his family realize their dreams and ambitions of being welcomed into the league. So lets keep what we got. Draft some new blood. Get some more RHD. And lets Get It On!!
  7. Big Jim packages their (what is it? 2nd overall?) pick with his ninth for 1st overall, et voila: 1RD Filled. (Yes, I've taken my meds.)
  8. I just had my first drink in a few years, and I'm really $&!#ty at predicting trades, so skewer away folks. Benning will announce: To Seattle: Elias Pettersson To Vancouver: Adam Larsson To Vancouver: Seattle's first crack at the 2021 Entry Draft (Would ya do it?) 4th beer question.
  9. Seems posters who took this to mean I was excusing any violence against anyone think that Jake is worthless, and no other team, including Seattle was, or are willing to give the Canucks anything. I think Jake is the BPA on our list of unprotected and available players, and even though "WE" no longer want him on our team, imo he still has value. If Seattle selects him, that will prove my point, and actually we will get something for him, as Seattle can only take one player from us, leaving another who might have been chosen. These posters are so easily triggered. Jumping on that post as if Hitler had re-emerged from his bunker. Get over yourselves. I have been active all my adult life supporting havens for women at risk, taking in children from broken families, seeing that kids get back into school and graduate (even go on to post-secondary degrees), bailed kids out of jail and got all charges dropped, et cetera, all on my own dime (and my wife's dime too of course) so please take your rage elsewhere. I guess I should have just posted: Bad Asset Management, something that is easier for small minds to understand.
  10. You cannot seem to separate the value of the player to the team from the personal issues. I do not in any way condone violence perpetrated on anyone (outside of gameplay). All I am saying is we could have got something for Jake before exposing him to the expansion draft. It should be obvious to any adult that the actions in her claim (if true, and they probably are) are abhorrent.
  11. Would you take Patty Kane? Beat up a cabby for 50 cents; embroiled in violence against prostitutes (perhaps?).
  12. Losing Jake for nothing does not sit well with me. Many athletes have made terrible decisions in the past and gone on to very good careers. Even if it is all true, I think 'we' have all been too quick to condemn him and now we're getting nothing for a high first round pick. He will probably settle with the woman out of the public eye and then it will all be 'water under the bridge'. Seattle will get an enigmatic but talented winger who is big, strong, fast, and knows how to hit hard. Soon these personal problems will be almost totally forgotten imo, and Jake may well settle into a good career.
  13. It doesn't matter where you live or what you watch. You're still completely out to lunch!
  14. Yeah, like Petey and Huggy and Hogz and Podz and JT and Schmitty and Boner and Brock and ... need I go on John?
  15. Bird Dog Small Batch Bourbon is pretty typical of sourced Kentucky Bourbon—86 proof.
  16. The good news is that Beagle is going to be ready for camp. To be complaining about the last year of his contract in a year when we put to bed the Luongo punishment, the Eriksson experiment, perhaps Sutter, Roussel, Holtby, and Beagle's contracts, clearing all but some very good contracts for key guys like JT, Bo, Thatcher, and the Yutes is pissin' inta th' wind, imo.
  17. Bottom 70% = Top 30%, doesn't it?
  18. I have been on the big, right side D Train for a long time but I am starting to think we also need some big fast nasty wingers, and if common knowledge is correct that it is the easiest (therefore cheapest?) position to fill, I'd like to see a return to the type of teams we had with Tim Hunter, and Sergio Momesso, teams full of angry guys who showed up with a lot of force and backed it up if it came to that. Remember how Vegas pounded us in the bubble? It shut us down. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm starting to think a lot of that heavy lifting was done by crashing forwards like Tuch and others. Imo, GM Jim might could pick up some fast skating, hard hitting, battlers for the heavy going of The Stanley Cup Playoffs for not too much right now. Not sayin' I wouldn't like to see JB pull off a big deal for a big, good right side D, just in addition to that extra beef, I'd like to see it on the wings too. Plus you have to give to get, so I am interested to see what he is willing to part with (2nd, 3rd rounders, Woo? Mike Tendy? Hogz?) in order to get what D he wants. Maybe catch a couple teams up against the ED, and get a couple #2 RDs, they don't cost as much cap, and we have to platoon D anyway (remember how many D we went through with Gillis?). I don't know, obviously, but man, it sure is hot...
  19. Ron should just retire and seek medical help. Even though I enjoy Kevin carving him up, the man is sick and helpless, and beyond cringeworthy, he's a creep; get him out of there for his own good. Whinging around in his sliminess, spreading that stink of inappropriate behaviour, and juvenile commentary that hangs around him like a toxic cloud of historical re-writes and false 'apologies', he just makes me sick. Too bad the good old days are gone or Kev could Federov his ass into &^@#ing off. Give him a choice: retire, or ... Blanket Party with Bieksa and Burrows!
