I want Richie at #6 but I fear Burke will take him and we will not have a chance. Really, if Burke does this, and another team chooses outside the big five, it is only good news for us. Ok, here's the dream #6 pick: Reinhart. How? Like this: Some team picks Nylander because they think he is as good as some here on CDC say he is. Some team picks Ehlers for the same reason. Burke takes Richie for his toughness with skill. NYI take a goalie like Ville Husso or Thatcher Demko because Snow used to be a goalie and NYI management are a bunch of fruit-cakes. Ekblad goes to the other top five team. We get to pick from Reinhart, Bennett, Draisaitl, Dal Colle.

I am hoping that Torts is still hanging around only because of: 1)contract details, or 2)the off-chance that the new GM might be offered the opportunity to make his own decision to keep or fire Tortorella. For example, there may be a buyout opportunity at say, July 1st and the organization is waiting for that. And Linden might not be able to talk to his #1 candidate for the GM job until say, July 1st without suffering tampering penalties so he can't yet get a read on that. There is no way (imo) that Torts has earned another chance nor another place in the organization. There is no way (imo) that Torts will be allowed to continue to disrespect the players, swearing and ranting, and generally going off his nut. His lack of preparation and research into other teams and players speaks of megalomania and is downright negligent in these times of almost unlimited information availability. There are some things within Tortorella's whole schtick that are beneficial to the team like "stiffness", accountability, and team toughness. They are just not enough to outweigh his absolutely horrible public performances, disrespecting individual players especially in public, and his total abstinence of proper research and preparation.

I think we will pick Draisaitl, Ritchie, or Fleury. I might like Ritchie best of these three. If none of the top 6 trade their 1st pick away, here is what I think will happen: If we win the lottery, we pick Ekblad. If we don't win the lottery, the first four teams pick will pick one to four: 1. Ekblad 2. Reinhart 3. Dal Colle 4. Bennett Then if Calgary is still 5th or 6th, they might take Ritchie or Virtanen. Then if Vancouver is still 6th, we could take: 5. Draisaitl *6. Ritchie (unless any of the top 5 drop) *7. Fleury (if Vancouver gets bumped to 7th and unless any of the top 6 drop).

Torts is NOT GOOD with the young players. For example, Jensen was on fire in Utica, was brought in and continued to be on fire. Torts does his "thing", Jensen is ineffective and on the fourth line. Even now, with Jensen back up with the Sedins, he is still tentative and ineffective. Players do not respond well to this jackass style of coaching; examples above are obvious: Edler, Hansen, etc. His system sucks: when Henrik broke into the zone (about 10 games ago), he put the puck into the corner and then went and got it. Torts had obviously told the players to put the puck in the corner. The defense does not seem to know what they are supposed to be doing. How many times have we seen them trip over each other, pass it back and forth, panic and try the suicide cross-ice clear the zone pass, etc? Please Trev, please fire this guy tonight or tomorrow.

Torts screaming F-Bombs at individual players on the bench alone was enough for me; he most likely cannot change that so he needs to go. All that stuff Torts almost bragged about like not knowing the conference, or the division, or any of the players in the west just shouted incompetence, arrogance, and ignorance. Refusing to teach offense and the power play was just unbelievable; if that was true, he did not adequately perform the duties of his position. Hiring Gulutzan and then ignoring his input was what??? Torts and Sully just shut him out; in hindsight Gulutzan probably had the right ideas. He should not have been given the job in the first place and that is why GMMG was fired. There is no point in firing him right now with 2 games left in the season and the team out of the playoffs. The new president will not put up with his non-performance of his duties and his mistreatment of the players. The coach is almost sunk, he is just treading water for a few days. I can't wait to see who the new coach is (and the new GM).
-
Linden is just waiting the season out. While he could be leaving it up to the new GM as it is his call, I think Linden has already made up his mind, and they probably don't want to wait if that new GM will not be available until June. I cannot see Linden hanging onto a coach "like Keenan" was, nor hiring a GM that thinks Torts is the right coach for the Canucks. They may also want to look at the idea of keeping Gulutzan but still letting Torts and Sully go; he may be a good fit for assistant (but probably not yet ready for head coach). It is all timing now; imo Torts is not the head coach of the Canucks for very much longer.

[Confirmed] Jim Benning signs as new Canucks GM
Goal:thecup replied to TheRussianRocket.'s topic in Canucks Talk
What was the deal then when Quinn was hired? (Or was it Crawford?) There was $1 million compensation or something to LA iirc. Maybe that was if you actually hire the guy away and take him home to work for your team. -
If the Nux come out flying tonight, does it mean they were not playing for GMMG or are happy with Linden? If they don't, are they trying to get Torts fired? Would the players actually act like this? Did not Kesler say something about Torts taking "the room" away from the players, and someone else speculate that Torts gave it back to the players after GMMG's rant/interview on Team 1040? I do not see the team intentionally tanking for a draft pick improvement, but they may tune-out or otherwise play differently due to respect for the coach/management. It is going to be an interesting game tonight no matter what happens.

This new age of social media sure skirts around the old problem of being charged with tampering. -
King of the ES, is that you?

You may be right but the way I recall it, Trevor was in one camp and wanted to end the lockout and BS was in another camp that didn't like what Trevor was up to. I think they locked horns when they went through a shakeup on the lawyers for the NHLPA too (that might have been at the same time). This was the previous lockout to the one we just had.
-
Jeez, if Shaniban gets the TO job; TL and he can renew their NHLPA rivalry. More fuel = bigger fire!
-
Get ready for Trevor to sign (as a player, not GM) his buddy, "the best player in the game"-according to Trev 6 years ago, UFA Jerome Iginla. Iggy's last contract was $1.8 with a $4.2 "playoff" (= Stanley Cup?) bonus. Think he's got any gas left in the tank?
-
I would like John Davidson for GM.
-
Trevor comes out, sits down, and announces: To prove I have full authority, our new GM is Mike Gillis! Gillis comes out, sits down, and announces: It's a process.
-
When Nonis was fired, FA said he was "the most disloyal employee he ever had" (or something most like that). Well, FA is looking pretty disloyal if he just gave Gillis a new 5 year deal and then fired him. I think the Aquili family has been very good for the Canucks up until recently and Gillis guided the team to a tripling of franchise value. Might the construction of the tower, Luigi moving into the building, and the fall of the Canadian dollar have anything to do with long-range plans? Just spitballing here, don't sue me! Just a rotten day in Canuckville.

This might be a good time for one of you techies to start an Official Bandwagon Jumpers List. Lot of promises being made today about never watching, stop going to games, etc. For me, it is another sad day in Canuck Fan Land for sure but it is not going to change how I watch the games or whether I am going to cheer for the Canucks. I am hopeful that new management will finally bring the Cup to Vancouver. Ownership could give that hope a boost by announcing their choice for Gillis' replacement. Like almost everyone else, I do not want re-treads like Burke or Feaster, but it really doesn't matter who I want. Whomever is chosen, I will cheer for the Canucks to win every draw, every puck battle, every shift, every period, every game, every playoff series, and to win the Stanley Cup. (Just, please, please, please, do not bring Keenan or Messier back; that was just too painful the first time.) And, please decide soon, there is work to do.
-
Sad day. GMMG was the best we have had. This was always going to be the "down year" from the time he decided to revamp the team to "bigger, faster, younger". The fans and the owners couldn't wait it out; just another week and then everything would have been "next year". The new GM will be getting a sweet deal. Lots of cap space to sign a very good UFA, several bigger, faster, younger players, lots of young talent coming up, and a great farm system. Thanks Mike Gillis, really sorry to see you go.

I had to turn it off (the radio/Team 1040). I cannot listen to their inane drivel and the noisy, stupid people they let "call in". The way I see the "change coming" is the lawsuits launched this morning. The media did not see it coming, but they sensed or knew something was afoot. With these lawsuits, the Aquilini family has basically said, in legal documents, that they did not hire Torts. So Gillis must have hired him; from the colour of his face last night on TV, I think Gillis is angry at Torts. Torts' contract apparently had an out clause of some kind if they weren't happy before the 5 year term was up.
-
I just turned Team 1040 on and I swear, they are just reading CDC and putting it out there as their own.

Still not good at this quote, copy, paste stuff so my apologies for that. My math (from so long ago) is still ok though, I think and quite different than some posters'. First off, the Vegas odds are 100 to 1 if the Canucks win the Stanley Cup, not make the playoffs; i.e. a $1 bet pays $100 if we skate around with Lord Stanley's finger bowl over our heads in 2014. Second, 1 to 100 is 1% not .1%. "100 times more likely than" this 1% means people are 100% guaranteed to "survive Ebola Zaire" (which we can wish is true even if mathematically false).
-
We're not out, just about though. 100 to 1 Nux to win the Cup in Vegas right now. You wouldn't be able to place that bet if they were out.

Those grain-fed birds are excellent. When you have a nice harvest like that, home-canning in tomato sauce is the way to go!
