There's an old curse on the team: Tony Gallagher. If we had social media back in those days, he would be the biggest negative drain on the team you have ever seen. Problem was, he knew hockey, and he had good connections; the bad news is they were on the other teams, e.g. Gretsky. There was no internet, just The Province and The Vancouver Sun, and he put up a lot of good content. Never really liked the guy though; liked to be correct about Vancouver's shortcomings type. I guess I've been a Rosy Homer for probably close to 60 years now, and I always thought the Canucks were "The Best". He knew better. I don't remember too much about those years spent around the radio before they got in the league as I was pretty young. But I do remember being pissed off that they wouldn't let us in! (FUTO) And then was very happy when they finally did. Then they spun the wheel, and it began. They adjusted the coin flip and we lost the #1 pick; never to be gained back again. And there was Tony, writing up every gory bit of it. Every loss; every Gretz goal, and all the records he set against us. Plus, I don't listen to sports radio anymore, too much bs and too many commercials. Thanks for the heads up though; some people might like to catch it.

Coyotes lose vote for new arena - future unclear
Goal:thecup replied to mll's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Ah, you and your logic! Still sore we lost that team; loved watching them beat the Stinking 'Abs. Still sore we lost the Expos too; ripped them out when they were a top team, same like the Nords. GD logic. -

Give Quebec city its team back. Frick'n American bias. FO Bettman! Quebec would earn a thousand times as much as the hole in the desert. And ice a real NHL team. -

They are responsible for that franchise and its total mismanagement. No other team should have to pay anything to that disaster. -

What a joke. Is Arizona gonna forego equalization payments? Or are they just gonna keep whatever they can drag out of this goat rodeo and still expect to collect from all the Canadian teams? Bettman get real! -
Pearson has lost a step, not as many as Brock has lost though. Pearson may be easier to trade and perhaps return something whereas Brock might be a cap dump at this point. Who is gonna give us much of anything for a guy that can't skate at NHL pace and has lost the dominant part of his shot. Pearson has a 7 team list to submit if we want to move him.

The future is not a regurgitation of the past; it is a progression. In other words, all these prognostications like, 'we do this every year, (e.g.) ramp it up enough at the end of the season, enough to blow our draft position', are just regurgitations of past bile. Let it go. Every new second, is just that, new. That is why programs that work, like alcoholics' mantra, 'one day at a time' stay true. I know all you folks are hoping for the best for the team, but this constant, 'have to blow it up', 'have to trade players x, y, z', should have done this or that, is ridiculous. All we can do is work with what we have, start each day fresh, and do our best. For example, we cannot change management overnight, we cannot trade everybody overnight, we can't draft anybody until the summer, and even then we will probably have to wait for them to have any real impact. People who say, 'I don't want to make the playoffs and go out in the first round' are incredibly foolish, imo. How much fun would it be to make the playoffs? Could you find it in your wee cranium to cheer for our team then? Or would you still be moaning about the past or ruing the possibility that we might get bumped out in the first round? This is pro sports entertainment folks; apparently, some think entertainment is constantly carping and complaining and acting like they know everything. For me, I watch every game, and love the Canucks, even when they're stinking up the joint; I watch to the end, to see the character of the team. Each new game has the Canucks that we have at the time, not some future dream, but our players, hopefully trying their best. The Goal is to Win The Stanley Cup, but you don't do that every minute of every day, and you have to play the hand you have. Tanking is ridiculous; that's not even sports; sports is an athletic contest, not some slimy back room deal to plan to lose. You don't develop players and teams by covertly planning for them to fail; that is extremely disrespectful to all. You give it your all, every second, every minute of every shift, and see how well you can do; that is sports. Practice starts in a few hours, and every body should be trying their darnedest to get better, to get ready, to heal their injuries, learn systems, etc. Tomorrow they get to see how well they've done today; but they can't go back to today and wish they had practiced harder. All these posters who said, 'I'm through with this team', 'I'll never watch again', etc, are still here carping. Admit it, you're hooked; you just like to post your personal drama; go buy a lollipop and sit in the corner. I'm looking forward to today, and every day, and I hope we win tomorrow and every game forever more. Doesn't mean I think it will happen that way; I don't need to predict losing just to be able to say, 'I told you they'd lose'. News for you perhaps: nobody gives a hoot what you said yesterday, we really don't. Now is the only time that matters. Now is the time I make myself another coffee and get ready for another great day, cheering my team on. This is the team we have, from the owner(s) to the Zamboni and I want to see what there is to see today getting ready for the next game. I think it will be great to win the next game and perhaps some of you will enjoy the games a bit more once we "put a 'W' in the 'W' column" to quote a misstatement by a commentator who I have loved but is perhaps getting a bit too old for the gig now. "Tear it all down"?? Ridiculous. Go Canucks Go!

That's because they played a better game than you seem to think they did. People went to the game to see a good game and they got one; could have been a better final score, of course; but definitely not deserving of "chanting". Not many people went there to boo and throw their favorite player's jersey on the ice.

I get where you're coming from but, for one thing, JR and PA are far superior to any on that list; just sayin'. I do see the dire situation we are in and am not so much of a homer w/rose lenses to ignore the obvious needs of the organization. This is the PGT, and I think we played a pretty good game last night and it is a shame that we didn't get Win #1. Onto tomorrow I say; but if we lose tomorrow, we are pretty well hooped for a chance even at making the playoffs this season. Imo, draft picks are part of the long-term processes that have to improve and produce new teammates. But picks are of almost no use to us right now; what we really need is a major win on a trading of NHL players. We need to dig down deep and build with some character guys who can withstand the intense physical pressure of success in the playoffs. We probably need to trade Miller even if we have to sweeten the deal; he has lost the respect he had earned before signing with his behaviour since signing. And it appears that he is the problem in the room that needs to be cut out. Management has to suck it up and admit a fail on this one if we continue to lose; we cannot let the opportunity to trade Miller before his new contract kicks in slide by. If Boeser continues to lag behind every person on the ice on every team, he cannot stay with the team. What this team needs right now, and in the future, is the ability to make trades where we end up with the right players that are in the league right now. Some people call this pro scouting, I don't know if that is the correct term, but we have to stop accumulating misfits, and injury-prone hopefuls. We don't need a team full of 23 year-olds either, we need a mix of seasoned vets, established pros, young guns, and great rookies/sophomores. If we continue losing, we have to give to get, and imo, no player is sacred; abolish the fear of the Neely debacle and do the necessary. And please stop acquiring little guys that get overwhelmed when the going gets tough and ruin the team's chances for late season and playoff success.

Domi can skate. Brock can skate in Da Beauty League. -

Much as I love Pettersson, if he doesn't want to be here: Bye, Bye; get what you can. -
[Discussion] Do You Have the Stomach For a Rebuild?
Goal:thecup replied to Warhippy's topic in Canucks Talk
Rebuild or not, whatever they do, imo they must Build The Beef! If it is a tear down, fill up the team with monsters and beat the shit out of anyone who dares to run our new young talent. If it is a rebuild on the fly, get some size! And truculence. No more lambs. If we're going to run this team out the rest of the year, bring in some Gino clones. For the future, don't draft small players, I don't even want Bedard unless we have a team that can protect him. These games now are just puff pieces compared to what is required to Win The Stanley Cup. - signed, "Been there done that." -
Pretty good game last night; bad result, but good game imo, and definitely entertaining. Miller finally breaking out was good. Holding a very good team to 3 goals was good. Not letting them score after their 2 quick ones in the third was good. Not letting them get an insurance goal was good. Not letting them get an empty net goal was good. Not having leaders fighting each other on the ice was good. Stood up to a bigger team and stood up for each other with lots of hits initiated by us. Played well for a team with a decimated defense corps. Etc. I am looking forward to the next game, hoping they will win and get the monkey off their backs.
