I remember that hit and the Soilers didn’t play McWhiner another shift in the tournament. Then Jake was killing guys during the regular season and took a major. And Willie Wonka called Jake out publicly for taking that major. He didn’t stand behind a rookie who was killing other teams’ players. And that was it for Jske as a power forward. One stupid comment from a pos coach. And who knows what that stupid pos coach said to Jake privately? We have a killer and our stupid coach ruins him.

Definitely a contender for worst coach of any time since the Jurassic Era, wobbling Willie was so bad that LA hired him to ensure they could lose their way to high draft picks without bothering to tank.

Impressed with? Hard to think of a guy that didn’t impress, but special cases? McWard, McDonough, Sasson, Raty ( in the last two periods), Johansson. Tolopilo pretty much only got half a period of work. Guy that surprised me the most was Mynio - scarcely a wrong move all game. I have to say the entire Canucks D was impressive. We didn’t even play Kudryavtsev, who was our best D in last year’s tourney.

Our owner should write a letter of apology to the fans for v hiring and keeping Benning for those eight years. It’s nice to have smart (Gillis the great like) management again.

We could get him back to find Jurassic age free agents for us and give him full access to write contracts.

Dominant performance by the Canucks. Have to give credit to the JR/Alvin organization. They inherited one of the weakest prospect pipelines in the NHL and did not even have a full set of draft picks and somehow have built up a solid pipeline with quite a few guys who have the potential to be useful NHL players.

The Canucks have added in guys like Bains, McWard, Hirose, Tolopilo, Bloom and others without needing to draft them.

And let's keep in mind that 4 of the top 5 prospects are not even here (Willander, Lekker, Silovs, and DPetey).

And, developmentally, the Canucks made a lot of progress last year with guys they inherited who were underpeforming, like Woo and Klim.

JR's approach in Van reminds me of what he did in Pittsburgh -- build a lot of good value - low-cost depth around a few elite players.

OK, maybe I am overracting to the first game of a young stars tournament but this is a great start to the season.

No, I think your thesis is right. I think maybe JB was responsible for a couple of these guys: Zlodeyev and Plasek? I really liked Zlodeyev’s game tonight.

I rescued this damn cat from the cow barn at 4 weeks old and the vet told me she had a very slim chance of surviving the night. 9 years later and she's spunky little monkey and enjoys attacking my legs to show her appreciation. I'm more of a dog person (got a pitty/lab mutt rescue) but this cat is my little buddy and I'd do anything for her.

We rescued or cat from a family with a three year old who terrorized. When we got her she had lost most of her fur on the sides from stress. The first thing the cat did when it came to our place was hide at the back of the cupbourd with the pots and pans all day. She finally came out that night. She’s nineteen years old now and insists on her schedule being kept- when to get up, when to get scratched, when to let her out on the deck, when to feed her dinner, when to get brushed, time for nip and treats, and time for bed. The smallest member of the family rules the roost.

Zlodeyev also stood out for me. This is what David Quadrelli (Managing Editor of Canucks Army) wrote:

"I read on Twitter just now that his KHL contract was terminated... Faber is going to look into it (he has all the prospect connections)"

I would like to Zlodeyev in Abby this year. The problem is that the Canucks are running out of contract space.  They have used 46  out of 50 contract spots. Teams have to keep at least a couple of spots open for opportunities/emergencies that might come up in the season and I could see the Canucks maybe signing one of the invitees from the young stars.

    Abby can sign him.

Yeah, he’s going to need at least a full year down in Abby, but 2 or 3 is more likely.

College players tend to have a leg up on junior players with regard to the coaching and training they receive - that could compress the timeline. Offensively, he is ahead of Raty, in my opinion.

To me Bains is Malholtra. He’s going to become an important third line guy for us.

That would be nice, but Bains is also a very creative player. The plays he was making at the end of this past season reek of potential. Malhotra was never a particularly strong offensive player compared to his defensive contribution. He was an extraordinary defensive player - big (6’2” 207), strong, fast and conscientious. If Bains becomes anything close to Malhotra, that would be  quite something - he has the brains, but not the size nor speed. Smarts can make up for a lot, though, and determination and focus- and Bains seems to have lots of all those. When you see a guy trying this hard, it’s hard not to pull for him.
