  1. You don't know my opinion of Pettersson. "None of the Swedish forwards, other than Pettersson" will play in the NHL? On any team? Wow, quite the projection. Liljegren is bigger than many NHL defencemen playing now as the NHL reverts to more of a speed and counter-attack game.
  2. Gaudette is outscoring what Boeser did in college last year, in fact it was mentioned in the America’s tonite that is tied for the lead amongst all college scorers... including seniors.
  3. "(Are you a Canuck’s Fan?)" Maybe he is just not a blind one.
  4. We are a long way from done. Our defence is a shambles, we only have one realistic prospect on D - Juolevi, and it is doubtful he will be ready next year - we need at least to fill the 1-4 slots - with Tanev always hurt, we have no-one to put in them. Look at our D as a blank slate. None of Edler, Del Zotto, Stetcher, Pouliot, or Hutton is realistically a top four D man on a team that could compete for the big prize, and Tanev spends all his time hurt..That is essentially a clean sheet, with maybe Youlevi to start his apprenticeship in a couple of years. If Tryamkin after completing his existing contract, and comes back in a couple of years, you can maybe cut it down to one less top four guy that we need. If we draft one this year, it is unlikely he will be able to step right in. We may well be three to four years away from getting a competitive defence. If we don't re-sign Benning, and ownership decides they need immediate results by trading off prospects for has-beens, we will never get there. It is Linden's job to go to ownership and tell that them the immediate gratification that they cannot have. This year's draft will be top heavy with defencemen, so we would do well to get another top ten pick - that would significantly reduce this team's penance in purgatory.
  5. In college, Gaudette has a reputation of being a 200 foot player. Pointswise, he is up in the Boeser zone. Whether his defensive play is NHL ready is questionable, but on a sheltered line, he may well be ready - particularly at home, where we have last change. But, if he can make it, it may clear a spot for Pettersson on his wing. I’d hate to see Pettersson have to carry the Sedins in their dotage.
  6. Elder, Edler, Edler, and Edler.
  7. I sure hope these kids don't read the crap that gets written about them.
  8. Er, perhaps not, 10 points in his last 10 games after moving up in the lineup due to injuries. Carcone 9 in 10 for the same reason. They are playing on the same line together. Don't write off guys who may have been dealing with nagging injuries, or who may not be playing in slots in the line-up where they can excel.
  9. Carcone has 5 goals and 3 assists in his last 9 games playing with Cassels in Utica. Always liked this guy since he first played with the Youngstars in Penticton. He and D’Aoust were high scoring, undrafted forwards in junior signed by the Canucks as free agents. These boys have paid some dues and it’s great to see them doing well.
  10. I think by the end of this year a lot of people are going to be very glad we took Virtanen, I’m already ecstatic with Boeser, and it looks like we are okay with Juolevi, and Pettersson might be something really special. But the guys the guys that can really make your team are later picks like Demko, Lind, Gaudette, and Gadjovich. The Oilers are a good example of a team that didn’t do much outside the first round.
  11. You are right about that, it is a joke.
  12. Three points a game to be considered a success in the CHL? In a 76 game season, that is 228 points! Even McDavid didn't achieve that. he had 162 in 62 games. The last player before him to get 162 points was Andrew Brunette... 22 years ago!
  13. Why does the organization come first? For whom? The owners? Players have to look after their own careers, just like the bosses look after their business. If they didn't want a player they'd drop him in a heartbeat - ask every player who has ever been traded or sent down, or just plain gotten rid of. It is the right of the owners to pursue their own self-interest, and the right of the players to do the same. Just like you; if your boss treats you like crap, and you have any moxy, you go someplace else where you are appreciated and try to prove how wrong your ex boss was to let you go. That is pretty much what Tryamkin did. Good on him. If I liked an employee enough to hire him in the first place, and so long as he worked well and was loyal while he was working for me, I wish him luck if he wants to leave and ply his trade elsewhere. If it doesn't work elsewhere for him, and he wants to come back, why wouldn't I hire him again? I know who he is, I know how he works, and as long as he is on the payroll, he is loyal. I have never blamed anyone for wanting to improve himself or his situation. In Tryamkin's situation, he was a young guy that wanted to play more minutes - you can't blame a guy for wanting to play.
  14. When an employee is not getting along with his boss, he has every right to leave and you should decide who was the problem; his boss or the employee. When you subsequently fire his boss, maybe you have answered your own question. Banning will have no problem rehiring Tryamkin, nor should he.
  15. Rodin was not able to even make Utica, I don’t believe he ever truly recovered from his injury and then was unable to get in game shape. I really don’t think management just gives up guys they think can help them. You have to consider the most motivating force on earth - self-interest. Pro hockey is all about capitalism - hence the ‘pro’ in pro hockey.
  16. They don't allow the eastern based hockey writing children to stay up past eight, so they miss all the stuff going on in the West. They are unaware of anything existing west of Chicago, having never gone to school to study geography. They figure the edge of the world is somewhere just west of the aptly named 'Windy City' - home to mobsters and crooked politicians.
  17. Much as I like Jake, and always have, I think not playing him on left wing is mostly about getting out of his own zone - board play is more difficult on your backhand - as his own zone play continues to improve, that could still happen. Sooner if he keeps showing offence from that side. He is a guy who always plays better when he is confident and his game really suffers when he’s not; and it looks like these coaches really want to build up his complete game.
  18. I don't think all those words mean what you think they mean. 1. Start removal/attritioning out of bad contracts: Ericksson, Gudbranson, Gagner, Sutter, Sbisa, Del Zero 2: Draft and develop new core, continue to move out/attrition contracts and older veterans. Edler, Sedins still here and of course we traded all those picks for the likes of Vey, Clendening (there go a couple of seconds right there) 3: Once new core players start arriving, move out remainder of old core So we removed the young players, McCann, Forsling instead 4: The new core I think we are still waiting for the new core.
  19. The kind of athlete/competitor I admire: not good enough? Oh, yeah! Watch this!
  20. I think Raymond's big chance to excel was when he was on a line with Kesler and Grabner - that was an amazing, lightning fast line that drove other teams nuts the few times they were allowed to play together. For some reason, Vigneault didn't seem to care for them as a unit. Don't know why, they were always breaking up the ice with the puck and blasting around the defensemen on the other team.
  21. As long as he can pick 'em, I don't care how he calls 'em.
  22. You can bet that coach, management and Canuck players made note of that. To let disappointment motivate you to a higher level is a sign of real maturity. He doesn't seem to know what 'no' means.
  23. Having played on both sizes of the rink, the size is important for goalies in the referents to where they are in the net and to their angles. For defencemen it takes a major adjustment to changing the emphasis of your game to containment as opposed to closing down. For a roward, especially a centre, it doesn't mean much except that you have more room, and it matters in initiating or supporting the forecheck. For a forward, in my experience it is not such a big deal - especially for centres.
