Totally agree on Forsling. When I saw his first world junior, I thought, man, do we have a great prospect here. His offence was wonderful, though his D wasn’t great back then. But he worked on it. I have that same feeling about this kid - sooo poised. Agreed re the coaches, they don’t increase the icetime o& players they don’t trust - coaches usually have a lot of trepidation with young D - good that you noted that, it is a good indicator for things you can’t see directly.

Didn’t this kid have a time playing D this year because the team had injuries to the D?
-
He reminds me of Kudryavtsev in his style and on ice demeanour- do our scouts have a defensive player type they are looking for?
-
Another interesting defence prospect. I like his game- very confident, very assertive - two essentials to be a good D.

Thanks for the update.

If my often aging memory still serves, I believe this kid was one of the youngest players at our Young Stars tournament, but was our best play driver from the back end - very calm, very good coverage and gap control, and sees the ice very well. Got a feeling that this kid has a future with the big team in the not too distant future. Of course, poor contracts with inferior players can stand in the way, but that is nothing that he can control. But I think the ‘best he can be’ is pretty darned good.

He appears to be a seriously better skater than Lind. And Lind was never a particularly good penalty killer while in Vancouver’s system. I don’t see him as much like Lind, I’d be interested to know where you find the similarity- could easily be something I missed.

Brisebois is the kind of player that you like to mine in later rounds and develop in your system. To Benning’s credit on the pick, and to the system for developing him. Of course, the majority of the credit goes to Brisebois’s dedication and work ethic.

While what you say is true, even disregarding the college qualification, other than Demko and Hoglander (who were high second rounders) only Forsling that I can think of under Benning’s regime, have turned out as decent NHLers. Gaudette and Lockwood have played a few games, though hardly to any great success, and Rathbone is still an incomplete story. So that may say a lot more about Benning than the value of college picks in general. Lots of other teams (especially eastern teams) have thrived on college free agents and later picks.

Oops. That theory down the chute. Good thing this site is replete with fact checkers. Thanks.

But not surprising with Juulson, Wolanin, and Brisebois up here.

[PGT] Anaheim Ducks at Vancouver Canucks | Mar. 08, 2023

Scrambly game against a putatively inferior opponent, typical of this team under prior coaches. But unlike other coaches, the team managed to tighten up enough to win a generally boring game, Miller looking lik3 last year’s version tonight, bazookaing our tank with a rocket to the top corner. I have the feeling he is getting hot, and could end up with 85+ points, if he can stay hot. -
He’d get more shots through and give more deflection opportunities if he kept his shots down. Top corner rockets look great, but are also a great incentive to keep your own guys from screening. Lot more space to get shots through skates and ankles than through bodies bulked out by padding and jerseys.

Guess we got pocket sevens - Kudryavtsev and McDonough.

Like Podkolzin, his mojo has returned.

Goalie doesn’t like Arshdeep’s taste in some arbitrary something or other? I’ve known that to be the case in many a hockey when guy’s have screwed up. Failure to back-check? Crosschecks random opponent in back of neck. Missed a read? Face wash random opponent just cuz. In play, hockey is a game of misdirection: play stops and it becomes a game of distraction and deflection. I’m surprised so few hockey players have gone into politics - on ice antics seem to be a perfect training ground for pols.

He sure won that puck race by a fair margin

By the Lord, you mean management? In which case, if you are a believer, the Lord is like CEO?

I have since done more research on Hronek’s situation this season - there is a great, in depth article on The Athletic with regard to Hronek. Turns out that there was more than one issue that occurred about the same time as the massive hit he took, and his massive decline in performance, at that same time he got gifted a pairing with Chiarot - more than enough to crater anyone’s performance. It was the equivalent of pairing anyone on the Canucks with this year’s version of OEL - it was a total disaster. The Athletic article is very detailed in its analysis - they have great,in depth reports - a great deal for two bucks a month. After reading the Athletic article, my view on the trade is entirely changed. This could be a great pickup, and a coup for the Canucks. I now look at the trade this way: we traded Horvat and a second for Beauvillier, Raty, Hronek, and a fourth: we got what looks like a very underrated winger in Beauvillier, a high ranked prospect in Raty, a fourth, and an emerging top four 25 year old RHD that we have coveted for so long.
