  1. Tank is off when we play the team from the self anointed centre of the universe. It’s hard not to cheer for a team that works this hard, this diligently, but my oh my, I want the best shot we can get at Bedard.
  2. This team under Foote and Tocchet has really reduced the passes through the slot, especially on the pk. Plus having two really smart forwards starting the pk doesn’t hurt.
  3. Well, one thing might be the financial crap that preceded each of the last two years. This team had no structure under Green and precious little under Boudreau. Demko was hurt to start the year. Earlier in the year, I thought that the bad start might be the amount of player turnover, but Tocchet has had that problem, too, with the newcomers. Part of the reason we have been improving may in some measure been the coaching and player development in Abby.
  4. Gotta send some love to Colliton in Abby for getting these guys ready. Guys who’ve been down there this year playing now? Wolanin, Juulson, Brisebois, Dries, Aman, Podkolzin, DiGuiseppi… did I miss any? A third of the team. Players on the limp: OEL, Bear (who we miss), Dermott, Poolman, Mikheyev (who we miss), that’s a lot of bucks on the limp.
  5. Team choke. No wonder they can’t perform in the playoffs. Team limp.
  6. Jeez, I wonder if structure and system matter, or is it that OEL is taking a pre-retirement vacation?
  7. I got hats off for this young D - other than Myers, and he stood tall. The Canuck coaches are going to be very proud of the boys tonight. Boeser looking like a new guy the past few games.
  8. Love it! love it! One for each shortie. Demko and a bunch of kids making the Make Beliefs look bad. Now to close this one out. Couple of MnMs looking good tonight, too, Myers n Miller.
  9. Check out the link below. Myers remaining salary contains 5 million in bonuses. The Canucks have to pay the last five mil at the conclusion of this year. His cap hit will be 6 mil, but whoever gets him will only have to pay him one million for next year. For teams with cap space, but short on cash, say Arizona, that is a massive deal. While Myers may be overpaid at six mil, he is dirt cheap at one mil. https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/vancouver-canucks/tyler-myers-6348/
  10. Go and look up Hronek’s game by game stats, since he took that hit from Reeves in December, he has sucked, he has not played like a top pairing D since, he has played like a poor second pairing guy. Shots to the head like he took are problematic, especially in light of Canucks history with the likes of Baertschi, Ferland, Poolman and Dermott.
  11. Hronek is valuable IF he is healthy. He took a massive hit December 14 from Reeves, and he has not been anywhere near the same player since, frankly he has been less than average. That is the concern. The draft pick we gave up is projecting at 13-14, the best D in this draft, RHD Pellikka, is sitting about there. The second round pick will likely be about sixth in the second round - about the level where we picked up Demko.
  12. Cap hit is 4.4 actually according to cap friendly. He’s worth the value paid IF he is the player evident before that hit from Reeves. If he’s the player from after the Reeves hit, he goes on the OEL/Poolman/Dermott/Ferland pile of wasted opportunity. As shown in his performance numbers that I gave above in the thread, the player from after that hit is a far cry from the player before that hit. They are two entirely different players, and the player we traded for is the one after the hit.
  13. That is not my point, are we acquiring a player with an injury problem that persists and precludes him from ever playing up to our cost in acquiring him. The central problem with OEL is that he wasn’t worth the cap, nor the cost in draft picks. If we have picked a guy with a persistent injury that prevents him from performing, then we will have wasted a significant 5.1 mil annual cap hit and given up both another high first and a very high second for this guy.
  14. My concern here, is which Hronek are we getting. On Dec 14, he absorbed an enormous (though legal) hit to the head from Reeves: Here are his stats prior to and after absorbing this hit and not being sat as per protocol. Before that hit on Dec 14, 2022, he was: 29gp 6g 18a 24pts +11 Since: 31gp 3G 11a 14pts -3 His production fell nearly in half, and his D fell through the floor. So, why did Stevie Y dump a high value, reasonably young RHD? Is it because he saw a team that doesn’t do their homework coming? Co-incedently: the top rated RHD in the draft is projected to go around #14, Pellikka. That is about where that NYI pick we got for Horvat is sitting right now. Hronek is currently out with an “upper body injury”, but how far back do we have to go to find the root of that injury. Hopefully we have not acquired another Baertschi/Ferland/Poolman/Dermott injury - this one at enormous cost. Have we practiced due diligence on this trade? I sure hope this is not the second coming of the OEL trade.
  15. Juulson and Burroughs physical tonight - Tocchet and Foote will appreciate that. Quite a few guys tonight finally getting the chance they have been looking for with their previous team… or with this team… and making the best of it. Good for them. Getting a chance at the NHL lotto.
  16. Bieser’s best game in at least two years. He looks like vintage Boeser. I’m starting to like Kravtsov, we may have something here. So often guys don’t really get a chance on their original team. Hoglander from Karlsson and Bains in Abby, but down 3-1. Big part of their team playing in Van tonight. Really, reallyliking Kravtsov.
  17. Re: Hronek trade: nothing against Hronek, BUT he’s hurt, in December he took a massive hit to the head from Reeves, now he has an upper body injury. Before that hit, he was: 29gp 6g 18a 24pts +11 Since: 31gp 3G 11a 14pts -3 His production fell nearly in half, and his D fell through the floor. This is the formula for teams that aim at mediocrity to sink to the Radon filled basement. This is not Hronek’s fault. Maybe he will recover his game, but the numbers hint broadly at a problem. On another note. Notice how Hughes was anxious to keep Schenn around? Notice how often he’s getting high sticked in the face lately? Who stood up for his teammates more than Schenn. Benning was a tool, let’s hope Rutherford is not a retool.
  18. Another strong game and the W foe Spencer.
  19. 2g 1a for Hoglander tonight, to be in on all of the Abby scoring.
