  1. Really impressed with Bains: smart, determined, hard-working young man with talent. Getting great coaching and bringing his game up from starring in junior to looking very promising in the AHL. Keep it up Bains, gotta love guys that can keep leveling up their game! That really reminds me of Burrows: undrafted, works up through the minors and progressed to be a really sound nhler. Burrows best attributes? Hardworking and really smart. Bains shows strong anticipation and real skill in his last couple of setups. He and Klimovich could be the big surprises at the next Canucks camp. A good reason for McDonough to sign here? Colliton.
  2. Does that mean they look like vomit?
  3. Active stick comes from an active mind: key attribute for a D.
  4. Great to see Spencer get his game back: 2-1 shootout where he nailed a sheet of plywood over the net in the shootout. That’ll admiration for the guy. All the best, Spencer Martin!
  5. Not buying OEL out means 7.2 mil a year and we are stuck with the league’s worst +/- D. Better to buy him out, and use that slot in the lineup to bring on new young D’s Either of Wolanin or Brisebois are better. I like they way both of them comported themselves against Boston. But for a puck in Bear’s face, we might have pulled that one out - at last they are playing with structure. Love the way Colliton has brought on the young guys. Like the influence of Foote on the D in Van.
  6. Or maybe who we get for him in a trade…
  7. Being an old fart, I lost the realization that Inwas writing a book. Thanks for taking the time to reply in detail. Lots of good points to think on. Seeing Pettersson’s growth, and not knowing for sure the extent of Bedard’s impact, I relied on history for my comparison rather than projection. But man, Bedard looks like a potential generational game changer. Pettersson, from his statements, appears to be determined to get bigger and stronger. That is scary in a good way. His last end to end rush was very McDavidesque, with the difference than our guy shoots harder! Two other things: I want to see a full season of a healthy Mikheyev, I can’t see Kuzmenko’s play going through a sophomore jinx. I love how much he enjoys the game, and even more, the way he responded to being briefly benched. Another guy whose play has matured under Colliton, is Klimovich- he now plays hard on both sides of the puck. There is a lot more structure in Abby, many players have blossomed under him. Sadly, that may have cost us Pederson, when we demoted him. DiGuiseppi, who was showing strong play, had to be sent down to avoid losing him on waivers had he played another game. Looks like we will have to be careful with Wolanin, as well.
  8. All an attempt at humor. No, failing at failing is just a way of saying they are wildly inconsistent. Glad you slashed through OEL, he is one of the Canucks who has been consistent - in exactly the way indicated by slashing through his name. Many have said that we have good players but a poor team - as indicated by our position in the standings. Granted a short sample, but Beauvillier is outperforming Horvat points-wise even though Horvat has gone to an arguably better team, and Beauvillier a worse one. Horvat, this year a great goal scorer, has the same number of goals on his new team as Beauvillier on his, Beauvillier having an extra assist. Under Boudreau this team was nconsistent with regard to effort, in a small sample the effort does seem better under Tocchet - for now. Though I seem to remember we won something like nine straight at the onset of Boudreau’s time here. A point I have made often in the past is that there seems to be little apparent difference between the top of the AHL and the bottom of the nhl - here apparent. The players that we brought up appear to be as effective as the one’s out of the line up. I thought that Wolanin should have made the team to start the year, and that Brisebois should have stayed the last time he came up. Both were replacements for injuries - I believe both for OEL (have to check that). If true, that says a lot about the play of OEL. As for being scary good when fixed, is there a team in the league that can’t have that said about them? Though in defence of your point, this team has underperformed in my opinion due to the lack of defensive structure under the previous two coaches. Goalies tend to perform much better when shots against quality is reduced, and that is what defensive structure is supposed to grant. It will be interesting to see Demko’s play if he can return to health under Tochet. But yeah, granted Bedard’s enthusiasm to play here, and his skill and drive, I want the best chance of getting him here. Injecting him into the lineup could be like Edmonton adding Dreisatl - but hopefully without the Oilers struggles with bad coaching and management, So, the attempt at humour, is about the irony of wanting victories now and better chances at the draft - being contradictory positions.
  9. I hate myself for screaming when Pettersson scored completing the ruination of the tank for tonight. Interesting that two minor leaguers on the left D, a minor leaguer in goal, a couple of minor leaguers in the middle, a part timer on the right D, totally outplay the Blues. I guess the young guys want to be here. We are spending a lot less time running around in our own end. Too bad, I want a better shot at Bedard. Looks like this team doesn’t like quitting. Pettersson with the McGod impression with the end to end OT winner.,.. Jeez, what a comeback, damn it. This darn team is even failing at failing.
  10. With Schenn out, we must be the politest team in the league in front of our net. Tocchet should invest in a welcome mat, or buy Boudreau’s. Got to wonder what’s in a D’s head when he’s standing around in behind the goalie humming love songs. I know Myers is tall, but tall enough for oxygen starvation?
  11. Bains seems to be a pretty smart, skilled, hard working, guy with an aggravating edge to him. In those aspects he reminds me of how Burrows started out.
  12. Spencer’s first game in Abby not looking good. Looks like his confidence and his game need a rebuild.
  13. I agree with an OEL buyout, but not Garland. OEL is a total disvalue, but Garland can still play. It’s expensive cap wise to buy guys out. Garland can probably be traded at some point, and it is not urgent yet. OEL is awful on the ice and costs us a lot of hockey games, and he is untradeable. He has a full no-trade and has insisted he will he will use it. The cap cost of an OEL buyout is as follows: 2023-24. 147k 2024-25. 2,347k 2025-26. 4,767k 2026-27. 4,767k 2027-28 2,127k 2028-29. 2,127k 2029-30. 2,127k 2029-30. 2,127k You really don’t want too much of that running off into the future, especially if you have to eat money (and cap) to shed additional contracts. OEL is a total liability, but Garland is not, at some point he will likely be tradeable. Adding Garland to the OEL buyout would be like paying for a top six contract for a player you don’t have. And we still need to re-sign Pettersson, which will be very expensive. 2025-26 and 2026-27 are going to be a squeeze as it is. I have concern (not wishing them any ill will) that Poolman or Pearson will play for us again - so we may be carrying a lot of LTIR. Demko’s recovery has also been set back, and that too is concerning.
  14. Being rid of Myers and OEL will help our D enormously. We will have Bear and Schenn left (if we don't trade hin), with Johansson coming over (if he lives up to his billing) We will have enough (with Burroughs) to survive a year of rebuild. It's the left side that really concerns me;, we have Hughes, we should buy out OEL, we have Stillman (wish we didn't), and beyond that we can look at the minors. At the end of camp I thought Wolanin should have made the team. He does it all in Abby: PP,PK, even strength and is a plus player who is 5th in league scoring (first among D). But beyond that, we have propects, but I can't say any are capable of playing any length of time in the show. Another thing is that it seems that Clarke trained goalies have been scouted in the nhl, maybe it's time to move on from him.
  15. Chuck will be looking for his royalties.
  16. So Spencer Martin gets sent to a team that doesn’t mind playing D, and is the first star. Maybe the Canuck problem is not the goalie, but the utterly pathetic team defence. Heck, let’s just say it, any team would be better without JB’s brilliant 7.2 mil signing of the D who can’t defend.
  17. Yep, I keep forgetting I’m a tank man, and as a tank man I should be hoping we pick five more guys like OEL, just on really cheap, short-term contracts. On the other hand, we have the top scoring D man in the AHL (5th overall in scoring when forwards are included) and by far the leading scorer on the Abby farm team.
  18. Sadly, part of that is because the kid we took before him is having a really tough time. But that said, he is the best D under 20 that we have. He looks very confident.
  19. 6g 36a 42p in 50 games. A lot of good play begins on his stick.
  20. lekkerimaki is struggling where he is, why add culture change to his burden?
  21. I think your having a Fantilliantacy.
