  1. Got to give cudos to Benning for that, it would have been easy to make a safer pick.
  2. Nobody blames doctors, lawyers and garbage men from making the best money they can from their professions, so what’s wrong with doing that if you are a hockey player. You gain some kind of honor by not actualizing your potential, and gain some kind of virtue by not being good enough to get paid?
  3. You just invented a new nickname for Tryamkin: Cap’n Crunch.
  4. You forgot about global warming...
  5. The good thing about Abby is that near new 7000 sear facility. When the Comets visited the Heat here, when Calgary played out of this rink, the place was pretty much filled. Being based here permanently would most likely draw welI, I should think.
  6. I love Rathbone, but this may be a little early. In any event, it’s infinitely better than letting the young guys rot. Especially in light of the performance of Chatfield and Brisebois in tonight’s win over The Make Beliefs.
  7. Hard to hear all of Cull’s comments, I gather Rathbone, Gadjovich and Baertschi are getting a break to heal up some minor ailments. Maybe Baertshi has been playing hurt.
  8. Don’t miss Baertschi, he has no interest in his own end of the rink, there is good reason he leads the team in minus by a big margin.
  9. As long as Roussel Doesn’t give him advise on how not to take stupid penalties.
  10. Not playing a game for a year is pretty much the definition of ‘derailed’. Ask Juolevi how helpful not playing is.
  11. Anybody catch why no Rathbone or Gadjovich today?
  12. I love those kinds of guys and they often become crowd favorites, if they can combine that energy with durability and the ability to finish you get the second coming of Stan Smyl - man would I love to have another one of him! Nice assist for Lockwood on the first goal today. No flies on this kid, he has very good hockey sense - smart player - he has that in common with Motte as well as the same kind of grit.
  13. In regard to Dahlen, I am speaking from the context of what is good for the Canucks, if Dahlen doesn’t want to be here or be challenged by a higher level of play, then that is his choice, from our perspective much better to have Karlsson.
  14. He is not stocky like Motte, but probably faster - just as intense, though. Because they both play a similar style, they both seem to be prone to injury - if you are constantly making contact with bigger guys and blocking shots, that is the natural consequence. If you value players in that role, it is wise to back them up. If Motte is a third or fourth liner, then having a Lockwood as a four or five is not a bad idea.
  15. I really like Focht’s game. Whereas Lind and Gadjovich had tough adjustments in their first year in the AHL, Focht has been effective almost from the beginning and is becoming more of a force with each game he plays offensively. Defensive play does not appear to be a problem for him, as his line tends not to get scored on, and he has begun to generate good chances in the O zone. It’s early, but he and Lockwood have both impressed with their complete game. I’ve seen a lot of highly touted rookies struggle when they make the transition to pro, Cassels comes immediately to mind and Gadjovich and Lind also struggled in their first year.
  16. Dahlen looked good in the AHL TIL he got run over a couple of times and fled to the periphery. Then he blamed the coaches for not playing him. Then he goes back to Sweden and prefers playing in the second tier. Another good reason for liking the trade.
  17. He is a different kind of player than Gaudette, more defensively conscious, and as a centre more of a play maker than a shooter.
  18. What I like is that they lead the team in plus/minus and they get plenty of D zone starts - more and more as the season goes on. Woo +7 in 13gp, Rathbone +6 in 8 GP. By comparison, Baertschi is -9.
  19. No, that thread is for Woo. We are doing this to throw off the trolls...
  20. Depends how much he wants, well at least it would if it was anybody besides Benning - he never saw an old fart he didn’t want to drown in money.
  21. Can they make it taste and smell like Scotch?
  22. He has a decent stride once he gets rolling, it’s about those first three steps. Now part of that may be processing time, but Juolevi is a smart guy - I think it is his standing start that has to be worked, and that requires getting stronger. So yep, he should be in the Gym doing whatever players need to do to build quickness.
  23. The Canucks have a strong group of up and coming wingers. I’m thinking they would be better to have a group of second tier centres: Pettersson, Miller, Horvat and maybe someone like Jasek as the fourth line C - he will have to improve his draw, though.
  24. In Utica, OJ got lots of PP time in his first year, and was effective, not as good as Rafferty, but good non the less and a few years younger. His D play in his first year sucked and sucked in his second till they got him healed up physically. He is not smooth at making that pivot to the left, but has improved dramatically in that regard, and his work on the PK was a positive. Always a strong part of his game is his outlet pass.
  25. I also liked it when Trymade hits at our blue line - it sure got some players on other teams upset, our opponents thought they got free transit passes to anywhere beyond our blue line. Big laugh watching those guys get crunched cleanly on the boards and see their teammates set their hair on fire looking for retribution.
