[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
The King of Kings replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Dont forget to couple the Bear deal with the Dickenson deal, which free up the 2.6M to acquire Bear. So Bear cost more than just a 5th round pick -
I recall a rumor said that multiple potential Miller trade proposals broke down because the Canucks did not give permission to the Miller camp to talk to the other teams. Thus the potential trade partners didn't know the ballpark of the long term deal that Miller was looking for. Imagine if the management gave the Miller camp the permission to talk few months ago ...

Tank Hard for Bedard - Playoff chances are already Slim
The King of Kings replied to Provost's topic in Canucks Talk
I am ok for the rebuild, but I am very skeptical regarding the "tank for bedard" thing... Let's say tanking means being the bottom three of the table... 1. We all know that, with the current roster and firepower, it's impossible to tank. 2. With the cap situation around the leading, it's extremely difficult to trade away multiple big contracts DURING the season. 3. Even the Canucks finally decide to rebuild, the full "blowoff" and house cleaning will be done in the offseason (i.e. after the draft lottery) (in my opinion), in order to tank in this season: 1. Demko continue to struggle until April , and he plays 60+ games. 2. Trade Horvat and Kuzmenko WAY BEFORE the deadline (trading them at mid March won't cut it) With the Demko injury situation, and given how "patient" the management is, the tanking is hard to accomplish. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Brock Boeser
The King of Kings replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If you know he's not worth the money, why would Minnesota want to acquire him? Aren't the Wilds currently in the cap hell after those two huge buyouts? They should be very cautious for trades, right? -
Yes, but it could take some time... - ask the owner to sell the team to Portland or Houston - wait for 10~20 years - there should be some nhl teams not doing well at their current markets and considering moving to Vancouver.... Or simply apply for an expansion team. - the whole team will look different.

Glad that you brought this thread back. That 7.5M qualifying offer actually made Boeser untradable after he hit RFA at July. It is interesting to look back at all thde praises for the deal. The only time to move him was at last year's trade deadline and the Management decided to be "patient". It's hard to conclude if the current 6.67M deal is good or not, but certainly it becomes a burden to the cap situation.

this is just a sad reality. when management acquired/re-signed Schenn, Rathbone, Burroughs, Dermott, Bear, Stillman... they all meant to be the 5th~7th guy. Now looks like they're reducing minutes of OEL and Myers and make them look bottom-pair-ish. on the other hand, Schenn is used as top4 (in normal situation, an NHL top4 veteran should not be under 1M). The team don't need another 5th~7th guy.

the last thing we want is having our home team blowing a lead and lose.

Trading away 1st and 2nd round picks in consecutive years is not consdered as "rebuild" . -
Tank Hard for Bedard - Playoff chances are already Slim

umm.... if you take out the 0-5-2 start of the current season, the team is still at the playoffs hunt. -

At the same time, the team was playing .650 hockey with most of those same players. the team will hit bottom five only if Demko continues to struggle until April, and he actually plays all the games except back-to-back. -

Yes, Of course trading Horvat will affect the competitiveness of the team. But I highly doubt the team will become Ducks/Coyotes bad by just one subtraction. Scoring is not the problem for this team; it's the defense. Taking away one of the guns won't "tank". Also, I don't see the management will trade Horvat immediately. By the time of the trade (e.g. trade deadline), the Canucks might have won too many games for tanking. The only way it will work is Demko continues to struggle (bad games after bad games in weekly basis), and shows no sign of bounceback. -

I think people should stop putting "Tank" and "Bedard" in the same sentence. I remember a few hockey experts already stated that the Canucks with the current roster are not going to tank and become bottom feeder. And with the cap situation around the league, the Canucks cannot clear out too many contracts without giving away futures (the best bet would be trading away Myers+Horvat) during the season. Basically the House-cleaning sale cannot happen until the off-season, i.e. after the draft lottery. Getting rid of Myers and Horvat only is not enough to decrease the overall rating of the team dramaticallly, thus it's not enough for the "tank" before the season ends.
