  1. Damn. Really thought the lotto line was gonna be the move Green has been missing to get this team going!
  2. Nothing about his play warrants them to change their game up though. The guy has been keeping scores tight by keeping the pucks out, if anything it'll have the defense being too lax.
  3. Good question. He looked uncomfortable getting up a couple games ago and hasn't looked the same since. I'm guessing he's battling an injury.
  4. Imagine a man that big spinning as fast as Garland does. The last person that big I've seen spin like that was a member of the Beegees.
  5. I recommend starting a thread about Travis Green and your thoughts on him to get acclimated well here! People love having topics to discuss here!
  6. I don't even think the media is that bad. They speculate, sure. But it's their job to create conversation so speculation is obviously going to happen. It's pretty rare that media actually really crosses the line much. This market could be much, much worse. At the end of the day the team still has a huge dedicated fanbase and that should inspire the players alone. When a team is showing such a severe lack of professionalism for as big a portion of the season, they earn their criticism. Many players were playing extremely uninspired, going through the motions on the ice. The last thing a team needs during that tenure is freedom to continue performing that way. Otherwise you end up with teams like Arizona. Is the media unfair sometimes? Absolutely. But they're also unrealistic sometimes when the team is doing well and aren't critical of the areas they should be when the team is rolling as well. Remember when they created excuse after excuse for the team playing like trash last year? Or kept hyping up Green as a fantastic coach despite having the goaltender having the be the best player for the team to win? If the players are investing that much into the media, then they're not being professional enough. Any celebrity status position understands you need to learn how to block the nonsense out. They're paid to.
  7. I agree. I think that should be some of the captain's job as well, taking the blows on behalf of your team when you can. Sometimes coaches or players will even stir up intentional non-real controversy for the media to direct the media to other areas other than things like poor performances. Tortorella was good at that actually (not when he was here, but on different teams) where he would say something fiery to take the heat off of some of his guys to protect them. That's why I said it originally during the off-season discussions that the agent managing Quinn and Petey was an absolute nimrod for allowing these guys who were fan favourites to become a bit soured with the market by delaying negotiations to make dollar. In a market like ours, you gotta be aware of how the media can affect players and adjust accordingly to it.
  8. Honestly I thought it was too serious. This is why energy guys and good room guys are so valued on NHL teams, to pump up the boys after wins like this. Sure, you don't want to get too high on your wins, but you need to build energy off them and keep the game fun as well. It's a bit too tight of a group at the moment and you can see it on some of their faces in guys like Petey (who clearly is having lack of confidence this season). I wonder who the guy is in the locker room to break them out of the funk. Guys like Sutter were pretty good for that.
  9. I haven't seen an NHL team play that bad since... Ottawa Senators played last season at the beginning of the season. An AHL team could have killed that team. That was pathetic hockey. But props to Vancouver for taking advantage! But my God nothing about that team looked in sync at all aside from ten minutes of hockey.
  10. Like a lot of periods lately, a tale of two halves. Also Myers is a black hole offensively.
  11. I'm sure many of us donate that % of our salary on a yearly basis. That's 420 bucks bucks if you make 70k a year. 300 bucks if you make 50k a year.
  12. What's most impressive about Demko is that he's actually better than prime Luongo... ... at mishandling the puck behind his net. He's the most uncomfortable goalie I've ever seen with the puck haha. Thank goodness he's amazing at keeping the puck out of the net haha.
