I disagree with Kassian (usually I tend to agree with you). I think he's severely lacking in the IQ department (way worse than I had originally anticipated, could possibly be due to the smaller ice surface). Off the puck he's skating around but he's not directly supporting his line mates. If anything he's bringing players to them. He's not keeping the game overly simplified in enough situations and I'm not exactly seeing that motor that everybody claims he has (I know he has it, but I've always argued he's extremely inconsistent with it).
I was hoping for a lower iq Hoglander, but I'm not even sure he will be even effective at an ahl level. He really needs a lot of work.
There's a possibility it could be that he's nervous and overthinking the game at this level. That's best case scenario. But based off a few games he is really looking years away from any NHL level playing. Sadly a lot of this is aligning with some of his Russian career, however if he can iron out his consistency issues, hopefully we can get a third liner somewhere out of him.
