No, at worst if this team performed like it did under AV we would have been a playoff team. Tortorella lost the room early in the season. Called out guys like Edler, Hamhuis, and Hansen who went on to have horrible seasons. The guy did exactly what I was afraid he would do which was to come in with guns blazing. That strategy only works if your message is resulting in wins. When a team continues to lose with the coach screaming his lungs out, they tend to tune him out pretty quickly. Say what you want about AV, but his calm even keeled approach worked with this group. We need another coach that brings that approach. trying reading before you post and trust me there is plenty more people saying the exact same thing how AV would of made the playoffs and this is all Torts fault so ya there are people blaming Torts for this season

AV had this team 1st in G/G and 1st in GA the next year it dropped to 5th and 4th the next year it dropped to 19th and 10th Torts comes into the long list of crap that he had to deal with no depth freak injuries new division and 17 back to backs drops to 28th and 14th this was happening before Torts got here and was the reason the Canucks missed the playoffs they still stayed top 15 in GA but the Goal Scoring was vanishing year after year that is on Gillis not Torts and not even AV but the team needed a change also that yelling at he wasn't always yelling at the players was sorely need as a wake up call for this group that has coasted by winning divisions now they actually have to play a complete game to make the playoffs no more coasting in again i am not saying Torts didn't screw up but the people pinning this all on him have zero clue about where this team was heading regardless of who coached this team

more the fact i don't like that Torts is the one losing his job for lazy uninspired players a GM that failed to address the scoring and defense issue so now after 1 coach got fired for the same reasons another coach is getting fired for the exact same reason and if this happens next year i am sure people will be calling for the new coach to be fired that is the issue

1 year and a horrible year all around for pretty much everyone in the organization from top to bottom but hey lets blame the new coach not the fact the offense and defense has been dwindling down and underachieving for the past 3 years now lets just ignore all that and throw Torts under the bus because it's easy to do Torts didn't have a good year but nobody had a good year that is the reason why he should at least get 20-25 games next year probably won't happen but he deserves it for the freak injuries couple suspensions brutal schedule that no player seemed prepared for that's on them as much as it is on the coaching staff

1 event and i am sure he regrets it but other than that the media was loving Torts funny thing Roy smashing his hands and pushing over the glass separating him from Hitchcock was deemed acceptable by the League and by the Media yes one was premeditated one wasn't doesn't change the fact both events were reckless and dangerous but apparently because one was heat of the moment it was deemed acceptable

please understand this blocking shots is a part of the new NHL every single team does it and practically every single player does it whether they are asked to or not they will block shots it is unavoidable the shot blocking was never the main cause for most injuries the injuries were caused by the league's ridiculous amount of back to back 17 was the count trying to fit in an NHL schedule in an Olympic year( 1 reason i wish the Olympics don't have NHL players next time around this was a league wide epidemic yet again caused by the NHL) Kesler played 23 minutes a night and thrived on it still scored 25 goals in a somewhat bad year for him the hockey was fine up until January and the depth of this organization was truly tested and failed miserably and this is where Gillis ultimately lost his job nothing down in the minor to supplement the injuries yet teams like Pittsburgh and Detroit both had injury riddled seasons could face their injuries and made the playoffs

like i said keep him on a very short leash i don't feel he is completely responsible for this crap season new divison 17 back to backs compressed olympic schedule several freak injuries Burrows come back gets a puck to the face from a teammate, Hansen slipping and crashing into the boards wrecking his shoulder and Hanzal taking out 3 players in one game i think it was Hanzal can't remember there is several more that are in no way attributed to blocking shots like some people think this downward trend in offense and defense was happening long before he got here and Gillis failed to act Torts got hired into one of the worst years for the Canucks and it's hard to pin it all on him but it probably will happen which sucks but i do believe he should get at least 20-25 games to see what he can do

most of the injuries weren't caused by him no matter how much you and every single person tries to make this fact there is nothing to back this useless theory Lack started 19 games and Torts played Lack believing they could still make the playoffs Heritage classic is a game that is worth 2 points Lack was playing better and Luongo hadn't played since his 1 and only game in the Olympics putting him in would of been a bad idea on that awful ice doesn't matter how the fans view this game as a once in a lifetime situation the game is still a regular season game worth 2 points which it shouldn't be imo these outdoor games should be pre season or after the playoffs those terrible seasons are as much as the players fault as they are the coaches fault it's a wash give Torts a short leash next season and if it continue fire him the lack of goal scoring was happening long before he got here and continued when he arrived again that is on the players as much as it is on the coaches the reason for letting him go is nothing more than lazy uninspired players that were unprepared for the new division again this is on the coaches and players equally and it doesn't matter which coach comes back next year the players better be ready to actually play against SJ ANA and LA instead of disappearing and crumbling under the pressure

that regular season success was slowly dwindling downwards while AV was here 2011 president's trophy was an amazing year 2012 we saw the downward spiral begin the lock-out season it continued further but most will blame the lock-out for that and then even with a new coach it reached what many consider rock bottom for this team the problem was the GM in all honesty not reacting sooner he needed to make a move that impacted the top 6 or top 4 but never happened gave the team plenty of bottom 6 and depth defensemen but failed to give the Canucks any top tier players to stop the downward spiral Torts fell into a freaky season new schedule 17 back to back multiple freak injuries that's why i find it funny people pin this all on Torts when this was happening long before he got here

the problem is the core and veterans and they should be moved look at the stats pretty much every single player over 4 million had bad years and this has been going on for a while now yes pretty much every single one of them has a NTC so makes it tougher to trade them doesn't change the fact the core is in desperate need of a major shake up the d-core especially 2-3 should be moved but probably won't out of Garrison Edler Hamhuis and Bieksa even the forwards Kesler Burrows the Sedins are no longer the same players and that is why the team missed the playoffs with non existent top 4 defence and top 6 forwards while the bottom 6 and young d-men thrived

West vs East 2 completely different conferences very few small players thrive in the west
