  1. He looked good but is getting more attention. Noticed top pairing D came out against him far more than in the past. He is getting noticed. Was again one of the fastest, if not the fastest, player in the game. Great feed here (big screen) to have watched the game. I really likes to agitate a bit too and seemed totally unfazed by the older players taking exception. He does play it very clean it appears though - just annoys through speed and relentless checking.
  2. He is still getting some points but is arguably not even the best offensive dman on his team and cannot even hold a candle to a rookie that the Canucks have. He has become an adventure in his own end too boot. Was dead set against Canucks remotely interested in signing this guy. The post-ankle EK is a shadow of the former. Sad to see an elite talent fade so quickly. This is an anchor contract.
  3. A massive amount of Hughes' ascension has been due to Tanev. Not sure how a fan of this team wouldn't be aware of this.
  4. We all do but we still will debate with you no matter how frustrated we get. Any other "deplorable" comments? Once in a while , everyone is entitled to feeling morally superior but you abuse the privilege.
  5. Alf monitoring yet another CDC thread.....
  6. Kid has more game that I gave him credit for. I hope he continues to work hard on his o-zone coverages.
  7. I think John was being harsh - David had some normal in him too:
  8. Was worried the two picks sent to Tampa were going to be named the first and second stars.....to give the trolls more oxygen.
  9. In Frankfurt for a few days visiting some old friends/haunts and have seen three different people in unrelated situations wearing Canuck stuff.   NEVER did see that in my past life.  The few sporting goods stores I have been in that have hockey gear as many Petterssen jersey's as Crosy or McDavid.   Nice!!!

Very high on Demko and intrigued by Holtby with Clark.   I am still not sure there is enough minor league depth though.   LD was a loss in my opinion.   I can see the overall SV% and GAA being as good as better though given how vastly improved the D corps is.    Hard to believe Canucks got two top four Dmen for a sum total of a third round pick.

years ago, i coached hockey with a guy who said he had been in boston’s system. he never played in the nhl but said that wren blair was his coach. i guess there were no goalie coaches back then. he asked blair what advice he could give him? blair said, stop the damn puck. i think his first name was dennis but i can’t quite remember. he also said, in warm up, the players would shoot the puck at his head. when he complained to blair, he was looked down on.

  10. Wow, I hope you are remotely this hard on yourself but for the sake of all I hope you have neither kids or pets as clearly no one could live up to your standards.
  11. Apparently this is why Canucks should trade or not re-sign Marky.......
  12. Sooooooo conflicted. Both teams need the W. How about a tie and may the best team with in OT.
  13. I guess. When I have focused on his play, I see a guy who uses his size and strength advantage (which has over most) very well and is very good a moving the puck effectively and rarely makes a bad decision. I think he has been a massive upgrade for Vancouver in terms of zone breakouts from their top line.
  14. OJ had a really strong game last night in a tight 3-2 loss but he was one of, if not the, best Comet on the ice. Looking very comfortable in his own end right now. Really showing some nice urgency with his game.
  15. Wow, his actual stats in terms of giveaways is totally at odds with your statement. I find him very responsible in his own zone. Perhaps you have his number confused with someone else?
  16. Nothing is a sure thing in sport. The deal was made, life moves on and I would think if the Canucks used that pick and it turned into a player anywhere near Miller's performance this year they would be ecstatic with the pick so not sure about "delusional".
  17. Who cares about him winning the Calder? An award like that is icing at best. There was nothing holding him back from being noticed across the league or providing Vancouver with a level of contribution beyond anyone's wildest dreams - even Jim Benning must be beyond ecstatic at how quickly this kid has figured out the pro game and seems to show something more every few weeks. Look, of course it is great that the players get noticed but this is a rebuilding team with a lot of young talent that is trying to figure itself out. It needs a supportive fanbase that is more willing to embrace the process than any given individual accomplishment. Put it this way, would you trade a Calder for Hughes for a Canuck playoff spot? I know the player would not - and wouldn't even think about it for a second. I know you seem to be a passionate fan and that is great but I just feel, and that is why we are having a back/forth of opinions, that your expectations and description of some of these players is almost as if you feel they are programmable bots. I get a bit sensitive - was a kid once too...no where, and I mean NO where, near as talented as some of the young Canuck kids but the support of fans for what I was able to accomplish was so appreciated versus what they had determined was their expectation of what I should accomplish. Peace.
  18. Holding back from what? What on earth was it holding him back from? He is already showing signs of being the single best ever Canuck rookie Dman - isn't that enough?
  19. You said he was being held back...I am saying, "from what?". Kid is arguably one of the 10 the best 20 year old Dman in the over the past decade and you chose a term like "held back". The game isn't just about point and popularity awards. Hughes has meant FAR MORE to this team than Makar has to Colorado so where he ends up in terms of points, goals or Calder voting is really nothing of concern as the Canucks already won the lottery when this kid fell into their lap.
  20. Well, they are not there yet but have you been laughing a lot?
  21. Ya, poor kid was really struggling. No one noticing him across the league.
  22. For all the experts who apparently know far more than the coaching staff, Brock is also dealing with a very emotionally draining family situation. It may well be impacting his play and the coaches are working with him best they can. I would not be surprised to see him taking a "Markstrom" like break soon for personal reasons.
