  1. The most unbiased thing said about this player if a long while.
  2. He appears already to be more positionally sound at 19 than Edler has been at any point in his career. I watched every minute of him in WJC and tried to compare him to Dahlin (who everyone thinks, and I agree, will be the next big thing as a Dman) and he was equal if not better in positional play and in limiting shot attempts etc. He also blew away Hesky in terms of almost every category one would wish to use as a compare. Bottom line, no one knows for sure but if you were not either a Canuck fan or someone trying to annoy a Canuck fan and were simply evaluating the potential of someone like OJ based upon this season in Finland to date and the WJC, you would most certainly see him as a potential top pairing Dman for a very long time in the NHL with the potential to be in the upper echelon of his peers. No offense to Edler (who seems to be such a polarizing guy), but comparing OJ to Edler is really not very fair to OJ given the evidence.
  3. Some people are just premature about things. Eventually, that isn't satisfying for anyone. Those with a more mature and patient approach can also become more satisfied with the final outcome. Oh, and that was related to hockey.
  4. All this speculation about signing ELC is clearly coming from people who have never signed one. Coming out of the CHL, there is zero rush to sign and is more a balance of timing where the team (in this case the Canucks) feel the player development is trending and where the player/agent (and even family for ELC) see the best path in their opinion. Most often if an ELC is not signed very early in the CHL season, they wait until the season is done as it makes NO difference to the player. This speculation over bonus money and such is just that - until they are professionals, they are still amateur players.
  5. No, YOU feel he was a better pick than OJ but in agreeing with you, we would both then be wrong. Tkachuk tops out at a 16-18 min 2nd line guy who will be suspended many more times until likely Avery'ing out of the NHL. OJ projects to be a top pairing Dman who can log 20 plus minutes and will be strong in both ends of the ice. If you have a chance at a second line crap disturber with questionable decision making over a top pairing Dman you would take the former? Again, will totally disagree with you each and every time on that. If you are going to troll the Vancouver fanbase, creating some fantasy about how the Flames lineup somehow dictated the good drafting the Canucks have done isn't the place to start.
  6. Or they know how ill he was and that he has played in three leagues essentially with WJC and is likely near spent. Chances are if Dahlin had been ill for WJC he would be on outside too. That is at least one "why else?". Another could simply be that they have seemingly left a lot of offense off the team if you look at their selections and perhaps they feel they have a better chance in this non-NHL year going with a more defensive minded/grinder line-up. Those are two more likely and plausible reasons than your guess in my mind. Our guesses can agree to disagree as on the large Olympic ice surface, EP's bulk or lack thereof without the NHL talent would to me be an non-issue.
  7. You heard this from where? I cannot find that quote anywhere? I did hear that there was some concern with him being "spent" from having the WJC, SEL and Champions League going along with the illness he had for better part of a month. I did not hear anything about about them questioning his strength. Ironically, several of the players named seem to be quite small/thin so that doesn't seem to have been a universal criterion so if you have some quote or source, perhaps it was one just for EP but that isn't what I understand to be the case.
  8. You left out best part. You need to become one of the games starts to get an Allen (Hex) Key. Third star gets the crappy metal only one. Second start gets the fancy plastic covered one that doesn't leave fingers too badly maimed and first star gets a plastic shielded AND reversible key. This is where the term "he has all the tools" comes from. A player needs to be selected as one of the top players in multiple games to have "all the tools".
  9. IMHO you are significantly overly optimistic on one player and significantly pessimistic on another.
  10. I wanted Glass picked for the Canucks at number 5. In hindsight, they probably got a better player in EP but Glass is a legit player. I do not believe Kole Lind is an equal prospect to Glass simply based upon position but it was a bit disappointing to see Glass not rise a bit higher in performance this year. However, IF the Canucks would have taken him, it would still have been a fine pick but you can bet a lot of people would have been complaining about missing on EP.
  11. Avoiding Nylander and Ehlers isn’t quite a disaster but they are lucky (the Canucks) in who they have. Nice mix over past four drafts with range of types of players.
  12. Not sure you can blame a player for signing for what they signed for. At the same time, it does create expectations. In today's NHL, there seem to be so many getting pretty hefty paycheques above and beyond what one would think would make more sense but more and more, many of these contracts are paying for past work instead of future. For that reason, I am increasingly nervous of some of the longer term contracts and in particular those signed at the front end or the rear end of careers.
  13. Just sayin' I don't think he does it on purpose. I think people just expect a lot from him.
  14. Enough to make the team, enough to continue to improve each and every month but not enough to silence doubters - it will never be enough.
  15. I don't think it has anything to do with an agenda at all. I think it is simple - Edler doesn't feel comfortable passing across his body and has been burned by short-handed breakaways when he has fanned on a few of them. I have no evidence of this (no one else has ever said this from what I know, I have not heard Edler say this etc etc) but I played with some guys who would say that they hated to try this pass (across body) as they got burned so much trying it. Perhaps he is one of those guys. I don't know this to be the case before someone tries to says I made this up (e.g. where is the quote...lol) as, correct, I did make this up but I made it up based on what other players have said about themselves and just a feeling I get watching Edler try this pass and he simply looks uncomfortable doing it. Of note, OJ seems to prefer to make that pass versus the strong side play. Could bode well for the Canucks if OJ and BB are teamed up on the powerplay as early as next season.
  16. AJ, you and I are seeing same thing. Apparently not everyone agrees but right now Edler is playing like a legitimate top pairing Dman (though he still cannot seem to pass to Boeser...lol).
  17. LE had a VERY strong game tonight. Was very fast, very purposeful and looked dangerous offensively on many shifts. Whatever he had for pregame meal, they need to keep that on his menu.
  18. Is that how you like it? Not judging but it makes some sense.
  19. Those ones from US and Europe you mean? Germany specifically or it is the UK that annoys you the most?
  20. I would have to dig but when he went back to his hometown he made it clear that if he was going to give up NHL for KHL he was not going to play in KHL for anyone but hometown. If his team did fold, it probably bodes more likely for his return to North America than staying in KHL.
