Disagree, I think your management team will use their picks and not make silly moves that disrupt the excellent draft positions they have in the first 100ish picks. I also think they will avoid dumb moves that weaken their growth plan - that is a LOT. Doing squat would be making a lot of fanboi moves just for the sake of making moves. If they are your team, you don't want them making a bunch of stupid moves. -
How is having a mobile, mean and RHD 6'5" Dman a "bad situation"? Give him at least a healthy season to see what he can do and I doubt you will feel this is a "bad situation". Florida's GAA, SV% and shots on goal per game all went in the wrong direction (and considerably so) without him on the back end.

We agree to disagree. CT is a nice asset for Vancouver to keep but in a trade, is not as worthy of the massive compensation you expect in my opinion - your opinion differs. For Canuck fans, I hope some other GM is aligned with your opinion if Canucks do trade him. -

Great post! I agree with everything you say here. I would think it would be a good move IF they are going to move CT to get a 12-18 pick this year if possible but given the flat nature of this draft, that would be a risk for all but a few teams as those with those picks are not all locks to be that much better with CT....Tampa is one that is most intriguing for sure. -

Not remotely related to your point. Buddy walking at the end of the year next year as a UFA could indeed happen if he doesn't resign with Canucks but that doesn't mean to you assertion Canucks can trade him for a high first round pick this year. That is what I was saying to you there is 100% chance no other GM will give you a high (I assume by high you mean top 10) first round pick in this draft straight up for Guddy. Not going to happen. Not a snowball's chance. While Guddy himself was 3rd overall, he had an essentially "non" season and anyone wanting him just have to watch his play this year and grab him in UFA bidding war (if he plays well) or at a bargain (potentially) if he doesn't. You seem passionate about Canucks moving someone, anyone, to get a high end pick this year but no other GM will make a move to weaken their team to make that happen. Dallas MIGHT take Tanev AND Guddy for their pick or one of those two AND a prospect AND a bad contract coming back. Maybe then. Picks in today's NHL are more valuable than ever. Quote this post if any picks get moved for what seems an insane amount going other way. Feel free to bash me fully if I am wrong but at best Guddy would get you, given last year and contract situation, a high 2nd rounder right now. He is "worth" more to Canucks to keep him as I like him (pretty damn mobile for his size and he has edge which the team sorely lacks) and like the contract as the team holds all the cards as up to deadline next year, they will know if he will resign or not and THEN you can move him for far more than you can right now even if he is "average" as the team overall will not be stellar and no one will likely have a career year. -

Really? This draft has some pretty good comparable talent well into the teens and what you get at five or six may not be that much different at 14 to 18, for example. Tanev, an undrafted low point total shut down Dman, could bring one of those yet you feel that would get Benning fired? Those who think you will get a top 4 pick using Tanev as the main piece are lauded for your optimism but no other GM would do that unless there were significant other pieces from Vancouver (including assuming bad contracts coming from the team sending the pick). -

Wow, I can say 100% confidence that will not happen. -

Not our call. Benning likely has a price in mind and will act if that price is met or exceeded. My guess if someone offered a mid or late first he would bite hard. -

Tanev is likely worth a mid-round pick and perhaps a "mid-level" prospect or low-end roster player. He is not worth a high first pick on his own - no he is not (irrespective of a zillion posts to the contrary). The advanced stats are great but he may well fetch a decent top six forward but why would Vancouver do that? If you package him with taking on a bad contract, then you may move up in a draft but not into top 10 territory easily if at all and certainly not to Dallas 3. I like Vancouver but I am also pretty sure other GMs like their teams too and don't have a role in making sure Vancouver would have a lopsided win to such a trade. There is not a bidding war for Tanev going on - if that happens, it would happen after the draft when Canucks have less flexibility with him to trade so keep that in mind too. If he moves for pick(s), it will not be the high end people on CDC want without a lot more going the other way. -

Uh, sure - agree with both of these. What you started with was having Toronto trade a first round pick and two high end prospects for Tanev and that would only happen if the Toronto management group wanted to harm their own situation to benefit Vancouver as they can get a Tanev equivalent for a lot less than that. Tanev would be good for the Leafs but they are not going to overpay to the degree that looks like the most lopsided trade in Canucks favour since the acquisition of Naslund. -

Cool. Would be nice, if you are a Vancouver fan, to assume all other GMs would rather improve the Canucks than look out for the best interests of their own team. I suspect this is unlikely to happen but kudos for hoping for it as perhaps if enough people believe in it, that may sway the karma! -

Are you implying Toronto would go out of their way to improve Vancouver by making this incredibly unbalanced trade that would harm their own future for a 10 point Dman who has some injury history? -

I agree, loads wrong but the fixation with a player that MAY not even make it work at AHL level I find intriguing. He has good highlight film from a league that may be up there is AJHL that people slam when Makar is mentioned. -

I guessed that but I am not in the camp that thinks Dahlen has any lock on an NHL spot. -

Why do people keep putting Dahlen in the NHL roster. He is as likely to not make NHL as make it let alone end up in top 6. -
Good deal for both sides. Strong likelihood if he comes out of the gate strong that an extension singed by Christmas/early '18 in the offing.

I hope you are talking about hockey.

I don't think Canucks will draft either Hasek or Thomas as they are too old. -

I'm with you ABF. I think Glass is a clone of Ryan Johansen who I think is a perfect type of player for the team the Canucks seemingly are trying to be. -
Me included....lol

Just a quirky guy with different priorities. Clearly had oodles of talent. The amount of dedication required to be a professional athlete is intense and not for everyone - even those as talented as Kyle was but still, his numbers were decent for a fifth round pick I would say. He made more than enough money if he was smart with it so who says he wasn't "smart" - he is retired in his mid-30s with so much life in front of him and had fun playing hockey. Not too bad!
-
As you are clearly trolling how about this - Kyle Wellwood was drafted in the FIFTH round (134th overall) and went on to play almost 500 NHL games, score close to 100 goals and put up about 0.5 points per game. If he is the second coming, given he was 6th overall, you would extrapolate well over 100 games and several hundred goals etc. etc.

I doubt Glass would around 8 to 10. I also think he is a far better player now, and in the future, than Vilardi and for the Canucks to land Glass at 5 would be a major win.
