  1. "You have to believe" from one random radio guy somewhere to another in Twitter space is somehow proof?!?!
  2. Please indicate who offered them this and your evidence for such. I find those who like to criticize Canuck management for things that never happened quite interesting - you are now on that list!
  3. You hadn't heard of Skaggs?! You follow ball? Tyler, who is same age as Stroman, was a very high pick right out of high school (40th overall in 2009, whereas Stroman was picked three years later out of University). While he was with Diamondbacks organization, he was their Vlad (in 2013 he entered the season as the No. 1 prospect in the their organization as ranked by both by Baseball America and MLB.com). Always had a lively and dominant arm but has had control issues at times so far in his still old career. He is 28 and this is a big year for him for sure but for a big lefty, he is a coveted arm and most any team in MLB would have him in their rotation. I realize this is a Jays discussion topic but didn't think it fair to characterize the pitcher from that game as someone "few of us have heard of" as if you follow ball at all, chances are not only have you heard of Tyler you probably have followed his career just as hockey fans will have followed most top picks that have made it to NHL.
  4. Wow, what a fairweather fan. You are as bad as those people "embarrassed" that the Canucks didn't win in 2011. The Blue Jays in 2019 are a very interesting team to follow. You are getting glimpses at as few as three and as many as six or seven players with legitimate star potential for their careers. Watching young players develop is far more compelling than watching a .500 team full of veterans. Your "nothing to see this season" is so "anti-fan" in terms of what fans (real fans) care about. Watching the first games from players like Vlad, Biggio, Bo (likely) and the further development of Jr., Grich etc. is as good as it gets for those wanting to see young players getting their feet wet. Pearson may even get some innings as the year moves along. "Fans" who only watch if their team is winning are not, in my books, fans at all.
  5. How very untrue. Bad luck has been more than half of his injuries. Teams don't count those against a guy. Moreover, he did not have a ton of interest when the Canucks signed him....unlike your claim his value was higher then.
  6. Love Ottawa. Not the weather but what a great little city. Crossing the bridge to Quebec (that museums is brilliant), the market (which should be in full swing) and the traffic jams that defy logic. Somehow it reminds me of both Brisbane (Oz) and Saskatoon (CDN). I guess the river setting and such. Not sure. Enjoy. I recall fondly some really nice Greek restaurants there. Apparently, according to some people I know who live in region, it is now the shawarma capital of Canada too. Mmmmmmm shawarma........
  7. LOL. Canucks have sufficient "aging veterans" now to guide the young core. They don't really need him whatsoever and he would take minutes away from the likes of, for but two examples, Virtanen and Leivo - two young guys who need bigger roles next year if they are going to continue developing. As far as the drinking, remember, it is always after 5 PM somewhere (actually, here where I am for example!).
  8. Anaheim is all over concept of Sutter from what I understand. I would not be shocked to see Ducks push Vancouver hard on his at/before draft. The like the concept of him taking a lot of the Kesler D-Zone assignments.
  9. You've been drinking, you will thank us in the morning for not letting you go home with that signing.
  10. Why can't an article about Virtanen at least show a picture of him instead of some playoff disappearing act (and his photo is repeated twice for some odd reason). Even articles about this player seem to want to troll him.
  11. You invent things. I have never said that. ALL I have ever said can be wrapped up with this: Intriguing skill set Brought wrong attitude to North America Showed nice flashes of potential during NHL stint Has regressed his game in KHL Will have missed three critical development years in a league not know for developing Dmen People should temper their expectations about him IF he comes back IF he comes back, he should bring a different attitude to development inclusive of potential time in AHL if that is what the organization feels is best for his development NOTHING in there says anything about not bringing back. I still fail to see one thing in that list that causes you so much grief. I guess I persist in this discussion as I find your perspective and fascination with this player which interesting - it is as if he has improved in all aspects of what he actually did in his stint to the point he somehow was a top 4 NHL Dman and his time in the KHL has only enhanced that stature. I find that narrative so at odds with the facts - hence the (morbid?) fascination on my own part with that narrative.
  12. What did you want to happen? How do you know what went on once play re-commenced? What was the direction from the bench? I still fail to see how this was embarrassing to you. Throwing a punch isn't courage or toughness, that is a ChickenShart way of being anything but tough.
  13. Nope, I tried and couldn't do it. I found I was 180 degrees out of alignment with his/her/its opinion and any movement brought me closer to an opinion I cannot agree with. Demko runs as cool as any young goalie I have ever seen. Not sure how anyone with any background on the kid can feel otherwise. When he was setting generational records in college he seemed oblivious to pressure. How he bounced back at NHL level showed he has the memory of wiped computer. If you had to manufacture a personality in a laboratory to be an NHL goalie, you would end up with Thatcher Demko.
  14. Are you high or just putting random words together? What on earth does Russia or speculative investing have to do with global demand for bitumen and its vast array of refined products?
  15. LOL. This is a speculative investment article that hasn't aged well given the continued growth for demand. No question "planning" is always required but that "after" is at least 50 years down the road....long after your kingdom will be passed down to someone with more ability to see the logic of things one would suspect.
  16. Ehlers had as many career playoff goals as Virtanen - and Virtanen hasn't played a playoff game yet (Ehlers has 21 under his belt). This continual fixation that other teams have "better" young players is amusing. Vancouver is amassing one of the leagues truly intriguing and highly talented young cores and the logic of trying to trade some of it (inclusive of first or second round picks) right now as those young players are just starting to get their NHL traction underway is hard to understand.
  17. Do you do any actual market research or do you like to simply say wrong things to see if it works any better than it did for you in school? The global demand for bitumen and its vast array of refined products is not only at an all-time high but projected to remain strong until at least 2050 if not longer. Nice to see some logic happened in Canada today.
  18. Funny how in the US, they have had the largest increase in petroleum resource extraction year-one-year in global history, have zero carbon taxes AND have had their GHG emissions fall. No emergency declared. Funny that.
  19. Some funny posts in this thread. Super happy Benning played hardball re. the NMC and that Edler/Agent caved on that. Now, they should simply agree on a contract. Go for three years with a NTC to some teams for first two years if he insists. Bottom line - IF this player is out there in UFA land right now, the Canucks would be interested and would likely be happy doing 3 x $5.5 or even $6 without any restrictions on movement in the third year. So why not do that for him in current situation? If Elder, doubt you do much better in open market....so why not just get a deal done?
  20. Not sure "leaf's fans" would know good defense if it blocked their arteries.
