  1. Lucic is slow. Watch him play. He is slow because he doesn't move his legs much. LE is a far more engaged player. I have no idea what Schenn has to do with this. Watch any game the Oilers have played over past two seasons and watch how often he is out of the play. Whether it is the wheels or the conditioning (doubt it that as he has a reputation for a beast in the gym), he is simply out of sync with the play. Maybe he is overthinking things and not getting his legs moving until he decides on something but compare the Lucic of past two years with any year in LA or any year in Boston and he is noticeably slower.
  2. You're right, 8th gets you a Taylor Pyatt (1999) and a 10th gets you Teemu Selanne (1988). If you don't like those, Edmonton this year at 8 will get something like Derrick Pouliot (2012) and Canucks get Mikko Rantanen (2015).
  3. I would have thought his inability to skate at the pace required in today's NHL would be as important.
  4. Doesn't matter the topic, doesn't matter the time of year, doesn't matter the lack of logical evidence. Your consistency is admirable.
  5. So they are unique. Trendsetters. Whatever. Why does it matter?
  6. Nice find. The player comparisons are good too. Steen is a great comparison. It was good to see him win a Cup!
  7. c'mon, stop being critical, we've all been there......
  8. LOL. "My era". I have no clue what you mean by "long way with Benning". Benning is keen on seeing this prospect come and show what he can do. I doubt very much he has any preconception that it is a lock for this guy to be more than he was when he left - and the team he is returning to, and the league, have improved including getting faster. I sure hope this guy doesn't disappoint you. You have built him up far beyond the player he actually is. I figure if this guy never did return that in a few years, he will have a statue raised with a "better than Chara, close to Orr" engraved near the arena there in Vancouver. Good luck with this. IF he comes back, just don't be too harsh on him when he takes a full year or even more to really get back to being a North American player - inclusive of being sent to Utica NOT meaning he is not up to the NHL eventually, just that he needs time to get back up to speed. Try and get your head around that I am pulling for him - REALLY pulling for him. I cannot help the fact I have watched him play in the past few seasons - admittedly almost entirely on video - but it is a league I know very well. IF he would have spent the past few years in AHL, Sweden or even Finland given the position he plays and the type of player he is, I would be more bullish on him. I sincerely hope I am wrong and he is all he can be and all you think he is. Sincerely.
  9. Speed of the game. Don't just grab highlights, you can watch full games. He needs to work on a LOT of things inclusive of decision speed etc. He will not be improved in those areas and needs to be in North America and work on those. It is a shame he was not here at 22 to do that and at 26 will have a harder time but I will most certainly pull for him. Just don't be expecting him to be something he is not. I have no idea why tempering expectations is met with discussions about WD. ?????? This is about a guy who has taken three of the most critical development years and put his NHL dream (if he has one) at severe risk. That is a fact proven by so many players. Watch him. Watch a game this coming season. You will not see an NHL ready Dman. You will get glimpses that are tantalizing but he needs some time and given the time away from NA, that time may be a lot longer that many here seem to think.
  10. Wow, the knickers be knotted for many. They look fine. I could watch EP40, Hughes, OJ, Horvat, BB, Virtanen etc. play with just white or just black jerseys and be more than happy. I am likely in the minority here but this is about a trivial thing to have such concern about as is possible in sport. As this young core grows and pieces are added, whatever logo/colours they are using will strike fear. Uniforms don't win games - the talent in them does.
  11. None of the above. I have watched it a few times and see a depleted team that didn't get calls or bounces and a puck that found holes for the Bruins. It happens. It happened to the Bruins early this morning. If you are wanting to create a new thread, why not simply ask if it was better to get all that way and lose in such a hard manner or to have otherwise not had the journey in the first place. I didn't have the benefit to being in your city for the run (nor was born for the other) but I would be most everyone who is a true fan LOVED that run and even though that last game stung, and still stings, it is not to the point it obliterates all the other great memories for that ride. Go Canucks. It will happen.
  12. I get paid to post. Remember. That is the difference. If you care to even look, you will note that there are a small handful of posters (quite small as some use more than one name), who are here for agendas and it is fun to joust with them as it is so transparently obvious by their posts that they have no interest in constructive discussion, critical or otherwise, let alone being genuine in their debates. You have made that list. Well done. Anyway, excuse me while I go and cash my latest "Canuck supporter" cheque.
  13. You are comedic genius! I also not, as I am apparently being paid to say this, that you are correct, Green purposely wanted EP40 to fail and even though the kid set Vancouver rookie point total record (which Green was furious about), at least the plot by Green and the coaching staff to miss the playoffs was fulfilled. The push by Benning and Green to limit the potential of the players, reduce the fanbase and pay operatives to log into the forums to sell their plan to unsuspecting people has been exposed. Sigh. Guess I will need to find another job.
  14. This "he is so tough" stuff is a myth. Sure he is big and can hit but how much does this help? How effective would he really be at protecting his teammates is the point. THere are several examples but Canuck fans will remember that he was on the ice when Matt Cooke essentially ended Marc Savard’s career. He did nothing. Would Lucic being on the ice have prevented Michael Matheson being an idiot with Elias Pettersson or the crap elbow to Sven Baertschi's head? LE was one of league's leaders in PK stats. Overpaid for that role but at least had a strong contributing role. Lucic is a shadow of the player he is being paid for and the "tough" stuff people seem to think is still part of his game really isn't the deterrent people think it is.
  15. I was just having fun with Alf. I would think a highly successful rookie season for Hughes from a point total would be 5 to 8 goals and about 25 assists.
  16. I think there are so many more things worth worrying about. I have no trouble with what you are saying, I just can't understand the angst some have about it. It's a uniform, not a cure for cancer.
  17. It's not all trying to be negative, some of it is simply trying to temper excessive expectations. If you were watching this year's playoffs, take any of the series and the teams that won did it with SPEED. Size helps but the speed of the game was amazing this year. The Blues are fast. Their forecheckers were fast and their D are constantly moving. Compare any game you like in the later rounds with any game feed you can dig up on Tryamkin from the past season - it will be like watching YouTube on 0.75 speed. The guy simply hasn't been involved in anything remotely close to what the NHL is right now for going on three years. Irrespective of how you feel he was treated, the bizarre advice he got on training/Utica and his wife's reasons for not liking living Vancouver - you will be hard pressed to convince anyone he has improved since leaving and I cannot fathom you not having a concern about his prime development years being spent in a league that plays D significantly different than in North America. Watch the games! I would love to see this guy come back to North America and dominate. Truly would. I am also a realist and know of no defensive player who went "back" to the KHL and became better. Regression, severe in most cases, is almost always the result.
  18. It's a uniform ladies. Bet if they come out next year and become a playoff team and build over the next few seasons into a serious contender you won't care if they did it dressed in drag.
  19. Well said. These idiots who someone take their own internal insecurities and tie it to generations of a hockey franchise are NOT fans of the franchise but are people who can only feel good about themselves if they "win". I could care less if my favourite team was the last team to ever win a championship as long as when they do, I cheered through all of it. Making an emotional commitment to a person, a team, an animal or anything in life means going through all the roller coaster of events and sometimes the big prize isn't yours but you went for the ride anyway and it was worth every second. One thing these boards are very good for - making it clear who are fans of the Canucks and who are not.
