  1. This is a hilarious invention. There is considerable disappointment Podkolzin is so keen to be in the NHL and apparently has been well before being drafted. As one of the leaders of the "Russian Hockey Experts" noted AFTER the recent WJC: Igor Larionov was part of the World Junior Russian coaching staff and says "Vasily Podkolzin plays hockey the right way, gives 100% effort every time he's on the ice & will be a really good power forward for the Canucks in a couple of years. When comparing him to a former player, Igor compares Podkolzin to a young Mark Messier." Podkolzin is a stud
  2. Jan, I know you are a very passionate fan and I think that is fantastic but you need to think about a few things here: - he cannot sign this player to an NHL contract (one way) and "loan him back" to the KHL. That mechanism does not exist - how on earth is the GM being "negligent"? The GM didn't leave the team and sign those contracts in the KHL? The only thing the GM can do it continue discussions with the player and/or agent and respect the KHL contracts - that is how the hockey world works business wise - why is it up to the Canuck organization to provide information on a player that while still on their "list" isn't contractually tied to the team whatsoever - what you are suggesting is without precedence - finally, and I know I don't align with all in this forum and I respect that but all should acknowledge I have been consistent on this opinion, have seen him play (a LOT) and know people well who watch him regularly, I doubt very much this player could crack the Canuck line up right now and is, IMHO, at best about 10th on their D depth chart as of right now Again, sorry that this probably isn't aligned with your thoughts. Cheers - love your posts!
  3. Daryl Katz (Edmonton Owner) to Ken Holland (GM) " We have to quit wasting McDavid, I need you to shore up the forward situation". Holland says "hold my beer"......
  4. In a more normal year, taking a flyer on him would be a good idea and particularly for an organization like Vancouver who has "tough love" coaches both in AHL and NHL as likely that is what this kid needs. Easily an NHL talent but talent alone does not get you to the NHL let alone allows you to stay.
  5. so a multi-millionaire who lives in a gate community but emulates a "gangsta" persona is a good role model for kids of ANY colour living in what are often quite desperate situations? Like everything, there was a sincerity to BLM but at the core all of these things become divisive. If some of these NBA players could instead talk about balance and the realities facing the very people who idolize them, in particular disadvantaged youth of ANY colour, then some positive steps can be taken. You see the present trend as positive - I don't. I will be able to deal with that. Cheers.
  6. Oh, that's what he told you is it.......
  7. Slower than their usual. A good Canadian singer!
  8. Couple of later round steals for you but your goalie duo is "interesting" and picked very early. Could have used at least one of those slots for more points IMHO. These things are for fun - good for you doing and sharing!
  9. So Tanev at more than 3 times the AAV is a better idea and the CDC consensus (if there ever was one on ANY player) is accurate about player value? I doubt many GMs in the league would take Tanev over Hamonic straight up but, hey, if CDC say otherwise they must be right. Further, what on earth does timing have to do with this other than signify Calgary prematurely reacted potentially and overestimated the market (I sure think they did with Marky) and perhaps the wiser and better approach was to be patient........nah, couldn't be....CDC said so.
  10. Between this and Schmidt for trailer parts, I just don't get how JB gets grief for this period since the bubble ended. Marky for the terms Calgary gave him made no sense for this team, Hamonic and Schmidt are a substantive upgrade over last year's D for this club. Tyler T could be a loss for sure - but, again, in the scheme of things maybe not given the forward depth they had with Hoglander in the wings. Not every move every GM makes is perfect but Benning has been on a nice run and if you compare the D corps to any point in the last 10 years, what a revelation.
  11. I have always felt it was like brothers....just a LOT of them. At the core you care for one another but you are also in "competition" and you get under each other's skin and steam needs blowing off. Gaudette's use of elbow was over the line but a SFoot is NEVER a good idea and I bet Motte feels like crap about that...but not that he took AG down and that they fought. It's a part of the game that I hope never goes.
  12. I don't disagree at all but I bet he is pretty frustrated with this Russian Club where his underlying stats show a top six if not top line forward stuck with sub fourth line minutes where he sets up guys who are ill-suited for taking the passes etc. and further hampers what production he can actually create. Kid has to be mentally tough to know he is far better than the opportunity that he is being provided.
  13. Pretty clear SKA isn't going to invest anything more than cursory time on him now that North America beckons. The ice time he is getting may be simply "something" given they don't want to total alienate a kid who will be mainstay of Russian elite teams for years to come (assuming NHL players are back into the Olympics, that there is World Championships after long playoff runs and that he even wants to do so).
  14. Lajoie is a very mobile Dman with huge offensive upside (good shot, great wheels and can make a strong stretch pass) but knock has been for a solid guy he needs some edge to be a better Dman. If he can get some of that, he is a legit NHL player and may learn a lot from Hamilton with the Canes.
  15. Why not just talk about Virtanen or Benning, that happens in every other thread.
  16. May be the only really sound thing he ever did that was actually just for him. While creepy, it is better than blowing it on wild parties and such.
  17. The only thing I find annoying about NBA is the political overtones that comes with it. All that money doesn't make you smarter and more stupid things, and quite hypocritical too boot, come out of your average NBA player than any 10 NHL players. Their use of hyperbole and masquerading as offended social justice warriors whilst AVERAGING most families lifetime earnings in a few months. Using their very influential platforms for balance and rejection of "gansta" lifestyles etc. would provide back to society more than just the entertainment of watching tall dudes in shorts playing ball. NFL has some beauties too in that regard (actual criminals) but their career spans and paydays are not as impressive...on average. However, at the core, I could not agree more that if the players don't get the money then the owners will and there should be a fair split. IF fans find the money too extreme, stop paying the prices they do for tickets and (more importantly) merch and turn the TV to something else during live broadcasts. While the revenue stream keeps rising, so will the salaries.
  18. Cheers, always enjoyed your insights as well. This should be a very unique season as though hockey is fun and the Canucks are as much a wild card (I don't mean in terms of playoff connotation but simply I think they could finish 5th or 1st in the Canadian and look convincing both ways), this season will be about bigger things than hockey and I hope everyone in CDC world (even the trolls) stay safe and that their circle of friends and family do too.
  19. You would be fine with Markstrom in Vancouver still with his new Calgary deal? What do you do with Demko then? You are looking at this thing too much in a vacuum and clearly want it to be a bad move. Canucks had to deal with this either this season or next and the market drove the decision. Markstrom was offered a contract and likely for similar AAV he has in Calgary so the CAP management was NOT the issue. The issue was and is term.
  20. Mine was a bit different but not by much: 1. Not a fan of the deal due to term but the fit could be good. Fully understand what Linden/Ownership want to do for Sedins but I would prefer a teardown as I don't see the other pieces and the closet of prospects is bare. 2. Similar to yours 3. Meh, those things happen (to even the greatest players) 4. Whatever magic the three of them created on the world stage as one of Sweden's go to top lines doesn't translate to their time in Vancouver - LE actually seems to be quicker than Sedins and Sedins seem to miss the grit they need to cycle 5. Similar to yours and the only other thing of the legacy is the messy divorce with Linden Cheers
  21. I go to a site informally called CDC and spend time talking hockey coz I miss playing it so much. I have actually spent time trying to reason with someone who is probably either 8 years old or a troll bot. Not proud..........
