  1. Yeah, I don't get the long wait. Both guys are healthy, and the injury bug has struck bad in the last few hours alone...I'm still waiting to hear Anderson or Nick breaks their toe on the bathroom door before their fight tomorrow... But hopefully they get to the date without a hitch...and then I predict McGregor by TKO (if it goes to decision, it's simply because Jose's a bad favela MF with no quit in him). HEAD. CLEAN. OFF. The only thing I don't like about the declining popularity is I have nobody outside the gym or the internet to talk to about it. I for one think MMA is reaching new levels of talent, and though it may never make it past niche sport anymore it'll still be able to draw randoms for certain fights if their stars build their brand (McGregor has the potential to be a household name).
  2. McGregor's for real...anybody who watches him fight can see it. He's not just a hype train.
  3. I dunno, we got a great card on Sunday and then a pretty decent one for free TV the week after that and then the week after that a decent PPV with the return of 2 MMA legends. So long as they don't dilute the quality (which has been an issue), I don't mind frequency of UFC events, in fact I love it. It's the size of the cards that's the issue for me. There's just too much no-name action in the preliminaries. As for that great card on Sunday...man I'm excited. Either McGregor gets the shot for the biggest title fight in FW history, or Siver pulls off one of the most massive upsets in recent memory. The hype train's either going to accelerate or decelerate very fast.
  4. I think there's too much talent for it to just die off. It may never reach heights it could've reached, which is sad. But it could always remain a niche sport. There's few sports that have the excitement level of a back and forth MMA fight.
  5. There's shooting yourself in the foot, and then there's pouring gas on your head and lighting a match. UFC's doing the latter.
  6. Well, another part of Jones' test is causing controversy. How is that an athlete like Jones comes in looking bigger and stronger than ever, yet has a testoserone:epitestosterone ratio like those of somebody suffering from hypogonadism or some other condition? My thread on Reddit has 655 comments, I have a feeling this is going to blow up in the media soon. First cocaine, now likely PEDs. This could be bad for the UFC.
  7. I'm legitimately in tears at some of these.
  8. Can't help but LMAO I love Bones as a fighter (if he beats Gus in a rematch, GOAT), and like him more when he's accepting of his assholery (though I thought he went too far to make a point in his post-fight interview with Stann, Cruz, & Anik). But after kicking DC when he was down he deserves to just be grilled for this. How dumb do you have to be to get busted for cocaine? UFC hid the results too to protect their cash cow. Rehab isn't for cocaine, it's rehab for his reputation. Bright side, more attention for the UFC. And man, the internet is fast with its shoops.
  9. If you're sure of that put some money on it while there's still a betting line. Wouldn't be surprised if this fight is taken off the books, I think Lombard's liable to kill the poor soul. But man it'd be great if he gassed and got KO'd. By all accounts the guy is a prick.
  10. I can find you the stats if you want, but I'll tell you now: Hendricks had 4 more significant strikes in round 4 due to leg kicks. But if you look at the unified rules, weighting is skewed due to the time when the fight takes place in grappling or stand-up scenarios and Hendricks went for the TDs and tried to maintain a grappling situation (should mention Lawler defended more than he completed that round, also counts for points) and got hurt and outstruck badly in those scenarios. So...by the scoring system that isn't necessarily 48-47 Hendricks. Judge's interpretation comes into play so scoring that round for Lawler isn't wrong. And considering fans have been clamoring for this change to an interpretation where (shocker) being active and beating a guy up more should take precedence over who grabs who and who's in what position...I'm not complaining. Hell, round 5 should've been a 10-8 for Lawler anyways; 100% accuracy, over triple the significant strikes, defended all TDs, and had the more meaningful shots. But yes, how about Pettis. Please stay healthy and make that match with Aldo.
  11. Bad comparison. GSP looked more damaged but was the more active fighter against Hendricks. GSP forces the takedown with authority and then works from top control trying to pound, pass, or search for a submission. Lawler landed more meaningful shots in round 4, and Hendricks was not active at all in round 5. Robbie took it to him in round 1 and was using great movement to minimize Hendricks' striking. He did nothing with the takedowns in the earlier rounds (and Robbie successfully defended 8) and ate GnP when he turtled under Robbie's groin when he couldn't complete a takedown. 26-1 significant strikes on the ground for Lawler speaks to the effectiveness of Hendricks' ground game in this one. You don't lose points stalling, but you sure don't win them. Can't say he was controlling Robbie in the last 2 rounds when he was eating elbows and yelling in pain just because he had his hands on his legs and his face in his crotch. I'm just boggled as to how he let the fight go after the success he was having in rounds 2 & 3; he had utterly stifled Robbie's movement with the kicks and was putting together great combos and mixing in TDs...then he just decided to coast. Seems to be an issue with Johny. 6'0+ is short? As for fixed, I still don't understand the 49-46, but this isn't the first bad call Glenn Trowbridge has made...
  12. Congrats Lawler on beating Hendricks! What a story, amazing dedication...I'm beyond happy for him. Don't know how a judge gave him 49-46, but I thought he won 1, 4, 5. 4 was close due to control but all Hendricks did was wall and stall, get hit, and if he got takedowns he did nothing with them.
  13. Well, after almost 2 months off from lifting of any kind (just began hitting the gym again last week after some swimming for PT) due to shoulder subluxation, I'm OHPing about 75% of what I can normally do. My other lifts are back up to snuff after a week though.
  14. Do you remember the Shire, Mister Frodo? It'll be spring soon, and the orchards'll be in blossom. And the birds'll be nestin in the hazel thicket. And they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields...and eating the first of strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?

Did Sam say this before or after bricking on Frodo's chest?

  15. Over a month ago, I was doing some seated dumbell shoulder press. Nothing heavy, nothing stupid, already warmed up. But going up I felt the weight in my left arm fall back a little so I fought to maintain it. Then came a really weird sensation in my shoulder, I saw my armpit bulge out in the mirror, and I immeditely flailed and dropped the weights. There was a cracking noise and my shoulder looked normal again and there wasn't pain (if there was any I couldn't feel it due to shock) but I could feel all my strength was gone so I stopped the workout. As the hours went by my shoulder felt fuzzy. Fuzzy turned to numb which turned to sore which turned to throbbing pain that woke me up in the middle of the night. Turns out I spontaneously partially dislocated and relocated my shoulder (and was apparently very fortunate it wasn't more severe otherwise my joint could be messed up for life). So just now I have enough mobility and structural strength to be able to move my arm around with confidence, and hold weight (like a bag of groceries). Figured I could get back in the gym at least for some squats while I rehab my shoulder since I can move my arm into that position just fine. Anyways, do some squats yesterday (again, nothing stupid, nothing too heavy). Shoulder felt great. But, I found I hyperextended coming out of the hole just one damn time which my buddy also noted and pointed out and I made sure I didn't do again. But then last night while I was cramming some assignments I took a break to stretch my back. After I did nothing but flex my lats and pull my arms down I immediately felt a weird feeling in my spine. It got progressively worse before I got to sleep at 5 am. Now I'm lying in bed and I can't sit up properly. So moral of the story my fellow lifters: be extra careful in the gym because all it takes is one rep to f**k you up hopefully this isn't anything too serious.
  16. Aldo-Mendes was an absolute war, easily Jose's most vintage performance since joining the UFC. Hats off to both guys, that was one of the best fights in Featherweight history. Now I'm really hyped to see McGregor VS Aldo...
  17. That looks pretty bad, especially in slow-mo. Looked it up and they asked fighters about 'stoolgate' and 'glove gate' and they almost unanimously were upset with stoolgate, not so much with glove gate. Most doubted it was intentional. And we'll see with McGregor vs Aldo. I think there's going to be one more fight in between them meeting up (I don't see Mendes winning, and I don't think the UFC's sending a wrestler after Conor just yet). That's one fight where Aldo ages a little more (not that he's old, but he's old in fight years) and one fight where Conor has a chance to improve. He's smart, athletic, dynamic, and young. He's as bad a match-up for Aldo as Aldo could be for him. He'll have a belt eventually. It's just a matter of time.
  18. One of the best PPVs in a while. McGOATor is the real deal, goddamn. I don't know about the next title shot, but he's going to be there fast. Cerrone should fight Nurmagomedov for the next #1 contender. I would consider Romero a contender, but he needs to rematch Kennedy. Rules are rules, he wasn't off the stool to answer the round. Not to take anything away from his heart (that fight was nuts, both are warriors), but that's a loss in my books and even if they don't overturn the result or make it a NC they should fight again.
  19. I can put up more weight on barbells of course...but when it comes to incline I prefer to use dumbbells. Something about the incline bench with the barbells makes it hard on my shoulders, I can't activate my pecs as well. And FWIW, I only ever use barbell for decline bench press. And also FWIW, flies are taking up more of my chest workouts nowadays.
  20. Background info? How long you been lifting, how big your shoulders are...
  21. Yep, I'm going to go back to lifting once school starts up. Like I said, I prefer being more cut and muscular (you don't realize how much 12 pounds of muscle is until it's gone). For now I'm enjoying having stamina like I've never had before and I'm going to keep the size down until after I do the west coast trail end of August.
  22. Cut my hand very badly so I've been out of the gym for a while. Started running more frequently to keep some sort of fitness going (plus it's meditative for me). I noticed I started eating less and running longer about a week after the cut. It's as if once you get into an exercise routine, your mind assumes what kind of body you're working towards and you subconsciously make choices to accelerate that (diet-wise and whatnot). Now I'm 12 pounds lighter, not as powerful and I don't have the same acceleration but holy crap my cardio's at an all-time high. I prefer being bigger and stronger, but I figured since I'm in such great shape right now, might as well make the most out of it. So now I'm going to be running a half-marathon on Texada in a few weeks Funny how a drunk wood-chopping incident led to this... Weird thing, overhead tricep extensions give me serious tearing pain in my right rotator cuff. I have no idea why only my right shoulder, and why it's my shoulder at all, but I've stopped doing them (elbows are just fine on all exercises). Skullcrushers, kickbacks, cable pushdowns for me.
  23. Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz are to return January 31...to fight each other. Oh lord...
  24. It's his time, as much as it sucks. First GSP, now BJ, soon Anderson...a whole generation of legends is leaving.
  25. Aight, I've never heard such whining about having a plethora of big two-way centres in the prospect pool. A. Two-way does not mean offensively deficient. Guys like Bergeron, Toews, Kopitar can all score. That doesn't mean they're the best players in the league, but they're strong and effective players that teams need to win. B. Centres, in general, can be converted to wing more easily than vice versa. C. You can still use them as trade bait. McCann was the best player available at 24. Even if he doesn't 'fill a need' or he's 'redundant', his value is higher (for the time being) than other guys we drafted there. So guys can be moved for pieces that do help fill a need.
