[PGT] New York Islanders at Vancouver Canucks | Jan. 03, 2023

I'm still with the boys cheering them on and will continue to do so. Win or lose, this is my team. But it's getting hard to ignore that we could get a good young prospect and there's a silver lining in losing. It's not all bad. This draft is strong so it matters. I will never cheer for the tank, but I fully support it if it happens organically at this point. Makes something out of nothing. I have faith in this team when they're "on" but there's so much frustration showing and it's starting to become a landslide. It's wrecking them (as well as me) and there has to be some sort of light at the end of the tunnel. They'd have to pull off a repeat of last year's turnaround...only better to get there. I sure wish they could build on a win or two and generate some momentum, but it just isn't happening. I want them to succeed so this is really time to assess what needs to be done for that to happen. I know who I'd want to keep and, at this point, not everyone's on that list. But my loyalty keeps that secret...for now, this is my team and the one I'll cheer for. Go Canucks Go. In it to win it but will also be thankful if we get a tankful. (I'm not even counting on Bedard truth be told...doubtful that would happen. Big cheap monsters just aren't out there/available...we tend to overpay. Would LOVE some of those...I like tough/gritty as much as skill) -

You know, in the first period I was on board....had hope. In the second...that started to wash away and I saw the momentum shift, the Islanders get aggressive/away with stuff (Mayfield did a lot of sneaky stuff that Myers would NEVER get away with...a lot of do si do'ing) and we lost the edge. It unravels and it's just too much trying to "get back in" to games. It's exhausting. I can only imagine how the team feels at this point and something's gotta give. Frustration can rip a team apart and there are some parts still worth salvaging. I still know they have it in them to win good games (even against good teams)...but you have to sustain that over time. Be consistent, it can't be a one and done occasional deal. It gets away, fast. Clawing their way back into games but never really just taking them over when they have a lead. I'm still gonna go...will be there in their corner but I feel the best thing to happen at this point is bottom out and start making the future a bit brighter. Rather than just hoping it gets brighter. -

There's really only one way to go now. This draft looks pretty good....start thinking about how to fix "the team" not "the season". I am in the team's corner but I feel bad for THEM at this point...it just isn't working. Our d was atrocious last night.- 541 replies

Tank hard for Bedard. At this point, winning's doing more harm than good. It's sad...was a good game until it wasn't. We need a high pick this draft so I'm just along for the ride at this point. "It is what it is". Still love my team, will go and cheer them on but at this point it's hard to defend a drive for playoffs. In my heart, yes...I still hope for that but reality is we're in the same boat as last year and would need a miracle to pull it off. I will say one thing...what you don't see on tv is that the Islanders frustrated our team with a whole lot of holding...they do this hook on with one arm deal that really held our guys up at times. It was effective but infuriating. JT's slash was likely in response to some of that. Sutherland still can't call a game to save his life. But in the playoffs, it's a battle out there and that stuff wouldn't be called anyway...so you have to be able to contend with it and still find a way. It's just not clicking. Petey was a little off last night...likely the frustration setting in. The shot block differential really came in to play...Islanders played a gritty in your face game and, despite getting away with a lot of garbage stuff, it worked. Which is why I like JT...behind the play, he's battling back in that same in your face way. I agree with what Dan Riccio said....sometimes what people see as a lazy glide off the ice is him depleted/conserving some energy because he does engage in those battles. And that goal that he and Bo clicked on again...that stuff's magic. They have a good thing going there and I will hate to see Bo go. But I'm at the point that something's gotta give. Whatever will be will be. I will still cheer my team on every game but if/when they lose it's for a greater good. We need help on d...badly. I've been patient with this group but am open to anything...I don't want Petey wanting out. That would be disastrous. If this team fires all on the same cylinder, we can win. But, on any given night, they aren't and that's a problem. -
God, how devastating. He's apparently in critical condition....let's hope and pray he pulls through.
