Weise says Lucic threatened him during handshake
-DLC- replied to J529's topic in General Hockey Discussion
And I disagree - I think it's a great tradition. The game is more than just "you", the guy in the line up. There are kids watching who'll grow up with aspirations of getting there. There are hockey legends who paved the way before you. We have heritage games in celebration of it. The handshake reminds us that sportsmanship is important. That a hard fought battle deserves recognition for both sides. Fighters also have these types of pre and post fight rituals. It's a show of respect to your opposition as well as the game. I hate that blowhard Puck Daddy. Bert acted upon it because it wasn't nipped in the bud or addressed...it was allowed to go unchecked. Which is making MY point in this...people saying "no big deal"? It is if it grows/festers into something more. -

You nailed it. Even if you don't respect the player in the line, you respect the tradition - well said. -

[Report] Torts wanted to buy out Alex Burrows
-DLC- replied to hockeyville88's topic in Canucks Talk
Thing is, Burr was injured a great deal of the time and battling back to form. If he knew Torts wasn't in his corner, that may have also had an impact? His confidence was off and if your boss doesn't have your back or believe in you it can be a bit of a mind game. Having to prove yourself vs just playing your game. Thought Torts was totally on the Burr bandwagon...just goes to show you never really know. But yeah, that miserable season. He gets a mulligan. -

Say it isn't so??! After all that love and support I threw behind Torts? Just as I argued that Torts may not have been given enough time in a fair shake deal, this would suggest he was prematurely assessing his players and not allowing Burr to work through the injury plagued issues he was bouncing back from. His timing, puck luck, confidence - everything went South but only a fool would get rid of a guy who'll sacrifice himself every game even if it's in the background that is the front of the net. Well then, glad Torts is gone. Burr better be sticking around....- 287 replies

First of all, this ^ discredits you more than anything. Weak, so weak. Desperate. Secondly, I know you're not from here but this is getting to be trolling. It stops now please/thanks. -

Actually, I'll address one more point here, Monty. Kids who grow up loving the game look to these guys as role models...it's part of the gig. They watch, with their parents, and some will emulate what they see out there. So we want them thinking this is alright? This is how you display passion for the game? By threatening to f'n kill another guy who beat you rather than congratulate him for doing so and working on how you can come back next time with a better effort? He had his chance to f'n kill him...it's past now. You didn't, you lost. Don't spout out words, use actions. That would be the best display of hockey toughness...resilience. Learning something in your failures. Don't pansy it up as you're trying to - showing leadership, class and sportsmanship is not a negative, it's a positive. Tough guys can still be tough while incorporating in some self restraint and class. Makes you more of a man, really. -

So, to those arguing in favour of Luc based on "passion". That's what Bert was acting on...did/do you give him a free pass too then? And, if not, why? Because if Lucic acts on that passion, it's back to square one with this stuff. The league's supposed to be proactive in eliminating potential ugliness. Your argument supports it. Sure, I get that Bert acted on it. What if Luc DOES...your argument is that he won't. We don't want to leave it to chance or allow for this stuff to sprout, do we? Anyhow, it's a done deal and this is getting into flogging dead animals territory. But don't make this ok, it's not. It becomes a gong show...WWE/F whatever it is now. Hit him with a chair on the way by too. -

Were you around during the Bertuzzi deal? When these emotions carry over things can go terribly wrong. Don't be so quick to dismiss how so when emotions run high and boil over. How do you know what he will/won't do? (hint, you don't) So you're ok with a free for all and total lack of respect out there? Don't do the polo/golf thing because that's not what I'm suggesting....I like rock 'em sock 'em hockey. During the game, I want guys to want to tear each other to pieces. But I don't want it to be a fixation where they lose respect for one another and it becomes a mission to destroy (someone). Not to destroy the team, but to go after a guy in that. Not good. "That's how people should look at this"? Like you do? Sorry, I have my own ideas and can't be ordered to follow like a sheeple. Not a big deal, but could turn into one. Which is what OUR end of the argument touches on. To simply accept something because "it happens". Drunk driving happens - don't accept that. All kinds of bad decisions "happen" for one reason or another. But to not address them because, well, because they're full of rage and testosterone? That suggests it's uncontrollable and that would be a problem and all the more reason TO intervene. Yes, you have to shut it off when the game ends. It's part of losing like a man, not a boy. -

I don't agree at all. And yours wasn't at the pro level - there are expectations in how you carry yourself there. It's different than beer and other leagues that can go unchecked. Or supposed to be - seems we're heading in that direction. My ex played hockey for many years - I know the drill. But once the series is over, you suck it up and even with the hostility present, you react with dignity and sportsmanship. Sure, during a series and before it's over - those handshakes set the tone for the next game. Absolutely, they'll be anything but pleasantries and messages are sent - "getcha next game". Mind games. But that's DURING and in the heat of...when it's all in the books, it ends there. You lose (or win). It's settled/done. I tend to believe (and I watch a whole lot of hockey) that this is the exception, not the norm. I don't see too many guys with the sort of seething rage Lucic displayed...most have a "well done, congratulations" message once it's over. -

Don't lump them all into a Lucic category, that's unfair and untrue. Sedins wouldn't pull that crap. Actually, I don't know a single Canuck who wouldn't let it go at handshakes. Did our guys do this with the Bruins, even though they rolled over us? Ran Lu every chance they got? No, they didn't. Again, you have to give examples if your statement is to be accepted. I don't know of any... There are "dumb jocks" and there are professional athletes. Lucic was raging by what's shown in the video. I, too, thought of roid rage. The reason it's talked about is because it comes on the heels of those stick to groin shots. And some stuff in the public downtown in the wee hours. It's becoming a pattern for him. The other guys aren't doing that stuff. -

When a series is ongoing, maybe. When it's over, not so much. Care to give some examples? Because, until you do - no. -

That video says it all. Talk about lack of sportsmanship...they're thugs more than athletes with that kind of crap. Take it back to the alley, Milan. -

You let it go when a series ends...then and there, for the handshake. Hard fought battles especially, as they command some respect for a battle well won. You lose with dignity, not dickery. -

Knock it off. You're not here to constantly call out "CDC". Had enough of that garbage.
