  1. Happy Burrday to you Happy Burrday to you Happy Burrday dear Alex Happy Burrday to youuuu!! All the best, Burr....you're not getting older, you're getting better. Love, your fanitos (MOSTLY deb & HV)
  2. Enough with the insults...last friendly warning before official ones will be doled out. There is a time and place for "tough questions". When a new President is being signed in you can't expect him to have the answers readily available that same day. These reporters know the drill, yet some of them go beyond that. Let's address one of them...my old favourite and I won't name names. Showed up in Bertuzzi's front yard during that period. Actually stood on the grass in front of his house with his wife inside. Same guy was reportedly there as Linden entered the building, forcing an earlier announcement than planned. Some of them ARE doing their job and some are vultures who cross the boundaries of ethics and patience. It's like a feeding frenzy at times and these guys are there to report on things, not force them or drag them out of people.
  3. We'll continue this discussion in the threads currently in progress.
  4. Out of respect for the guy in place, he did what he had to. You don't give information before official announcements have been made. Here's the rule of thumb...if a lie doesn't hurt anyone and is actually to save someone some bad feelings then it was done in good faith. Nothing that was "lied" about caused anyone pain or suffering, so it's pretty much a non issue. It wasn't anything sneaky it's simply protocol to follow a process when someone's being fired and a replacement's coming in. You try to do it tactfully and allow for pride and dignity. He was actually booked on Global for his fitness center expansion into other areas of fitness...so those questions likely caught him off guard and he really didn't have to answer any of them.
  5. Exactly how I felt....started this morning thinking "hmmmm, not sure". That Linden was simply a new brand name in the sale of seasons tickets. But in hearing how passionate he is...that he definitely is excited and has a plan - right down to a specific profile in what he's looking for. This has obviously been tossed around for awhile...as stated, just a matter of the timing being right. And it definitely feels right. I am very excited about this...I was a strong supporter of MG...hell, of AV too. But change is inevitable in this game and so it happens sooner rather than later at times. Although some would argue that (it wasn't soon enough). OK, new chapter. April 9 seems to be a good day for Trevor: 1989: Vancouver evens its playoff series with Calgary at two games each, following a 5-3 win at home. Trevor Linden sets a new club record with four points in a game, scoring 1-3-4. The Canucks also set a new team playoff mark with four power-play goals.
  6. 1. Knock off the insults...they actually diminish vs strengthen your point 2. Just because things are happening quickly does not mean they weren't in the works earlier and are just coming to fruition now. They likely have to have been, as this stuff is pretty complex when you get to the fine print. The writing may have already been on the wall and it was just about "waiting it out" until the season was officially done. I have no idea, but am quite sure it wasn't an instantaneous thing...that things were leaning this way and the final games that determined the season outcome were the final nudge. I'm trying to see this from all angles and tend to agree with some of your thinking...it's the presentation that's lacking.
  7. I don't believe that should happen and here's why. The league has to address the issue of the carrying over of grudges and agendas...pandering to that will not help fix it and allows for it to continue. Each game should be a clean slate. And where does it end? Lappy's gone. Torres is gone. So you can't have agitator types now? Marchand gets away with all kinds of stuff so how is it that some have to avoid a certain type of player? You can't build your team around "the refs have your number"...that's a slippery slope and once you buy in, you're a doormat.
  8. But they'll lose credibility in trying to go up against TL. Remember, the media's intent is to get people to listen, to buy in. As stated by you, to read. They'll lose people if they target someone held in such high regard here and don't tune in and play nicely. It won't be pretty. They're already on the cusp and many have already abandoned some of publications as a result. I know I stopped reading most of it. Linden'll win by default. So they should care, or they could get disappointed. The media has gotten used to the public, for the most part, buying what they're selling. That isn't a given and over the past while they're losing people. They're whining and complaining and straying more and more from the game to drama and controversy. People have had enough.
  9. This is a great post, thanks for sharing. We forget that some haven't been here all along like the rest of us dinosaurs so it's nice to get different perspectives and opinions. Trevor is a confident yet humble man - that's a nice mix. He has never put himself on a pedestal...a good example of that was when he was playing all busted up but didn't utter a word or use it as an excuse. I remember Ronning (I think) saying he could hear Trev in the training room pre game, screaming in pain as he was playing with broken ribs but didn't reveal that (not even to teammates I believe). Most would use that as an excuse. Make it about their suffering, but he never did go there. He isn't full of himself...even how he addressed the "tears in his eyes" comment when he quickly brushed it off as a broken nose from Richter's stick. Many would be inclined to veer off with tales of valour and how they put it all out there, etc., but Trev doesn't really stay in that place of "himself". "Me". I've always known him to be very well spoken, articulate but most importantly, sincere. Someone you can trust. Someone of integrity and character. These are all traits that should really help him develop and solidify, even further, relationships that can help this organization. I was somewhat guarded and skeptical about this but am now stoked. Experience was a concern but he's got the right tools in place and the vantage point of having been a long time player as well as a league leader appointed by his peers to oversee the player's interests. That doesn't happen if you're not worthy or a bozo. Trevor was the one who really escalated my love for this game/team. My ex at the time boasted to me about this new player we were getting...he was so excited about him. Over the years, I had the great honour of meeting him several times (once I actually got snuck into a small scale presser and got to sit right across from him..was in awe). I felt all my apprehension about this announcement disappear as soon as he started to outline his ideas and goals this morning. I'm totally on board with this. Welcome (back) (again) Trev.
  10. I don't like change. I'm a homer and loyal to a fault...blindly so at times. However, I also am quick to accept what I cannot change and like the moving forward that comes with change. I feel good (now) about TL...careful optimism, but at least he's a guy who knows/cares and, beyond a job, wants to win.

that made no sense except to me

And wants to win HERE. No better way to sell players on coming here than being a guy who truly loves the city.

Baby steps..... We got this :)

  11. The guy owns the team....like him or hate him, you don't own multi milliion/billion dollar businesses if you're a moron. He's doing what most in his shoes do...they deflect back to those they pay good money to put into place to answer questions. That's actually fairly smart, because he doesn't have to...that's why he hires people.
  12. Really? Are you new to this deal? He has experience in both a business ownership/management role and as the President of the Player's Association. He's had some tough, unpopular decisions to make at times and conducts himself with NOTHING but intelligence, class, integrity and professionalism. I'd say he is brilliant. He was made the leader of the team. The players thought enough of him that he represented them. He's gone on to a very successful sports business AND is being brought BACK in a leadership role after having left the game. You don't do all that if you're a bozo.
  13. I understand that, hence why I said it was just my thinking and would be hard to pry.... I don't have your answer nor did I indicate this was in any way anything other than my own silly idea. The Canucks are not the laughing stock of the league...only people who glom on/off the subject think that way. They're a fairly solid team that, with the right changes, has possibility of being right back in the mix. But thanks for taking my comment and making it your own.
  14. Trev's relating it to baseball: "the shortstop either makes the play or he doesn't". Taking about "right or wrong" way to play and that it doesn't count if you can't be counted on to get it right/make the play. LG and other names being tossed around. Criteria looked at: "experience in a GM or AGM role"....look toward someone who brings that.
  15. Trev's on the team finishing off there.
  16. He obviously did not give any clue...not prepared to do so and kept referring to the fact that he has a profile in place. That all people in the organization will have to fit within that. My gut says Burnaby Joe (would love that). Nothing to go on, but that's just what my feeling is? Not sure how that would happen but jumped out at me. Hard to pry him away, but who knows?
  17. Haha, I got that too. Touched on gaining permission to speak to people...timing. Early to mid June targeted to have someone in place. I think MG had no other choice but to address Manny's situation...I think he likely felt he had a responsibility to protect a player and do what was best in that interest even if it meant making a tough decision. Because if something further did happen, he'd have to live with that. I can't throw MG under the bus....I feel he did a fairly great job here. And as in any job, thinking about a worker's health/safety should trump all else.
  18. I really feel good in hearing this presser. Wasn't sure about the decision....love Trev but also love the team and it had to be right...for the right reasons. Obviously it is partly attributed to getting sth to renew/stay on board but you don't simply make a snap decision based on that...sounds like this has been discussed for awhile and I'm totally on board now. Let's do this. Trev's involvement in the telethon likely a prelude for what was to come. His passion and hockey knowledge, alone, will greatly assist him in this role. Assets that come with having invested so long not only in the game, but to this team from various stances (even as "a fan", as stated, for a time). His business venture with his fitness club, his role as President of the NHLPA...he does not come in green and completely in the dark. Not at all so. Thanks for posting the Youtube/live link here. Honky Cat just said exactly what I tried to but much more efficiently than I did. ^That, up there, Even IF it was partly reactionary, it feels right. Completely.
  19. Totally caught that: Maybe not word for word, but that stuck out to me (too): Mike hired him, I supported that decision....that's why we have a change in direction today.
  20. Because there were threads already going and it didn't require a new one - simply an update. Your thread(s) came in 5 hours after this one. And if you're calling me a clown, I'm not the one pushing to have my own special thread. Follow the rules please/thanks regarding searching for topics and reposting topics that have been locked by mods.
  21. One of my biggest concerns is this. The owners want to sell tickets and next year was going to be an issue. Something had to be done in order to give fans an unknown, something to "see"...reason to buy in. So a reactionary thing is to stay onside with them and give them what they chant for...hey, they want this so let's keep the ticket buyers happy. People will be "excited" now....they'll want to see. They'll "believe" all over again. Obviously, owners want the best for the team but running right alongside of that is their desire for people to keep showing up. So motives are split in that they obviously are scrambling to make sure those tickets are sold next year. We'll now get the "new and improved" campaign. I'll reserve judgement until I see what unfolds.... Sorry, I'm a bit of a party crasher that way.
  22. I agree. People here have no clue...including me. We don't know the issues behind the scene or what develops under the surface. People want to chant something and glom onto whatever it is in a hot ticket item deal. Rah rah rah. Fire AV. Fire Gillis. Vote for Rory. It's never ending. I, for one, feel MG did a good job for the most part and think we keep looking for fall guys and a process of elimination means we have to have replacements. They aren't always guaranteed to be upgrades. We'll see, but I am apprehensive and don't feel the urge to rejoice here.
  23. Wow. Pretty surprised. Thank you for the service, Mike. I feel you did a great job considering the climate of how things go down in this league. Much respect and best wishes. I will remain a fan. Fall guy, but I guess when you're management and things are going south that's bound to be the case.
  24. Linden's going to be on Global News in a few...says "that's news to me" from the sidelines. But that's normal (of course)...until news is actually officially broken, I'd expect that.
